In the CurseForge app, click Import, choose Import Profile .zip, and select a compatible exported modpack or custom-profile ZIP. CurseForge installs it as a new profile under the Minecraft tab.
Import a modpack ZIP
- Open the CurseForge app and click Import. Button placement may vary by app version or operating system.
- Choose Import Profile .zip.
- Browse to the ZIP archive, select it, and let CurseForge install the profile. Look for the new profile under the Minecraft tab.
CurseForge also documented a drag-and-drop option in app version 1.297, released February 1, 2026: drag a CurseForge modpack file into the app while viewing a supported game’s page. The Import menu is the general route described in CurseForge Support’s “Sharing Modpacks/Custom Profiles,” modified July 7, 2026.

Which ZIP files can CurseForge import?
The ZIP import is for modpacks or custom profiles packaged in CurseForge’s expected export structure. It is not a general-purpose ZIP importer: it does not install an arbitrary archive, a standalone mod, a world, or a data pack. A ZIP that contains only a folder of mods is not a recognized modpack import.
For the documented installation troubleshooting check, confirm that manifest.json is present inside the archive. CurseForge Support’s “Minecraft Modpacks – Installation and Launch Issues,” modified July 13, 2026, identifies this as a requirement when addressing an “Invalid file” error.

What to do if CurseForge says “Invalid file”
- Check that the ZIP is a valid archive and contains
manifest.jsonin the expected export structure. - If the structure looks correct, use Repair Installation in the app, then try importing again.
- If the import still fails, contact the pack creator or CurseForge Support and provide the app logs.

Check a ZIP before importing it
CurseForge says manually shared modpacks do not pass through its moderation pipeline, so it cannot verify or guarantee their safety. The app may warn about files in a pack that are not hosted on CurseForge. Choose CurseForge Files Only if you want to limit installation to files hosted there, or cancel if the source is uncertain or flagged files are unfamiliar.
CurseForge’s safety guidance, published May 14, 2026, calls out unsolicited ZIPs sent through Discord, pressure to join a server quickly, unusually small “modpacks,” unfamiliar JAR files, and unexpected executables as warning signs. These are reasons to be cautious, not proof that a file is malicious.
