To import one Elementor page, block, or saved template, open the target page in the Elementor Editor, open the Template Library, choose My Templates, click the import icon, select the .json or .zip file, and insert it. A complete website kit follows a different path: WP Admin > Elementor > Editor > Home > Tools > Website Templates > Import, where you can load a cloud kit or ZIP and choose whether to bring in templates, content, and site settings.

Elementor separates a reusable design template from a complete website kit. Picking the wrong route is the most common source of confusion: the Template Library is designed for an individual saved layout, while Website Templates is designed for a coordinated set of site components.
| What you are importing | WordPress location | Accepted local file | What you can control |
|---|---|---|---|
| One page, section, block, or saved template | Elementor Editor > Template Library > My Templates | .json or .zip |
Insert that saved template into the page you are editing |
| Full website kit | WP Admin > Elementor > Editor > Home > Tools > Website Templates > Import | ZIP, or a kit from the cloud library | Choose plugins, then import Templates, Content, Site Settings, or any combination |
| Kit managed from a terminal | WP-CLI | Kit ZIP | Automate inclusion of content, templates, and site settings with command options |
An individual template normally changes only the location where you insert it. A kit may include headers, footers, global styles, pages, posts, images, and custom post types, so treat it as a site-level operation.

Prepare WordPress before importing
Make a backup first
Elementor’s import/export documentation states, “We recommend backing up your site before importing a file.” Create and verify a restorable WordPress backup before a kit import, because a kit can contain global settings and content in addition to page layouts. Keep the backup outside the site so it remains available if the import or a later cleanup goes wrong. Source: Elementor import and export website templates.
A backup is particularly important when you select Site Settings. Those settings can include global fonts, theme style, layout, lightbox, and background behavior. If the imported choices do not match the existing project, restoring the backup is safer than trying to reconstruct every global value manually.

A single template file is intended for the Template Library. A kit ZIP is intended for Website Templates or the kit WP-CLI command. If you only need a header, footer, or one landing page, do not import an entire kit: importing fewer components gives you more control over what changes.
Before opening WordPress, note what the export is supposed to contain. A page or section export is a focused design asset. A kit is a coordinated package that may bring in templates, content, images, custom post types, and global settings together. This distinction determines both the menu you use and the amount of review required afterward.
Check the file and its source
- Use a valid Elementor JSON export when the file ends in
.json. - Use a ZIP when the export contains multiple JSON files or is labeled as a website kit.
- Only enable SVG importing when you created the export or trust its source. Elementor specifically warns that SVG files deserve this extra caution.
- Have the required plugins available for a kit. The import screen lets you select plugins, and missing dependencies can leave imported elements incomplete.
- Keep the original download unchanged. If you need to test a file, work from a copy so the original ZIP or JSON remains available for another attempt.
The WordPress Media Library is not the normal destination for these exports. Elementor’s import controls read the template structure and, for kits, the separate content and settings categories. Uploading an export as ordinary media does not install it as an Elementor template.
Import one Elementor template from the editor
Use this process for a saved page, section, block, header, footer, or other individual template file.
Recommended Free Tools
- Open the destination page. In WordPress, open the page you want to edit and launch the Elementor Editor. The template will be inserted into the canvas for this page.
- Open the Template Library. Click the folder or template-library icon on the Elementor canvas.
- Switch to My Templates. This is the area for templates saved to your site rather than the cloud library.
- Start an upload. Click the import icon. In the equivalent library view, this is the upload icon under Templates.
- Select the file. Use Select File to choose the exported
.jsonor.zipfile from your computer. - Insert it. After the file appears in your library, click Insert. Elementor places the saved design into the page you opened in step one.
Elementor documents this JSON/ZIP workflow in its January 2, 2025 help article: Adding templates. Its Template Library reference describes the same upload sequence as opening the library, selecting Templates, clicking the upload icon, choosing the file, confirming, and clicking Insert: Template Library.
What happens after insertion
The imported design becomes available in the library and is inserted into the page currently open in the editor. Review the result in the editor before publishing. If the template contains assets or widgets supplied by a plugin that is not active, those parts may not render as intended; activate the required plugin or remove the affected element rather than assuming the JSON file itself is damaged.
Check the page at the same viewport sizes you normally support. Look at headings, images, buttons, spacing, and any widget that depends on an add-on. An individual import is intentionally narrow, but its appearance can still depend on the active theme, Elementor settings, and installed widgets on the destination site.
How to upload an Elementor JSON file
JSON is the usual format for one exported Elementor template. The upload location is not the WordPress Media Library. Open Elementor’s Template Library from the editor, go to My Templates, click the import icon, and choose the JSON file with Select File. When Elementor lists the upload, select Insert to place it on the current page.

If Elementor reports that the template is invalid, treat the file as a JSON problem first. Confirm that the download completed, that the extension is really .json, and that the file was exported by Elementor rather than renamed from another format. Elementor lists an invalid template or invalid JSON as a common kit-library error; its troubleshooting guidance is at How to fix common errors with the Kit Library.
If the same file fails repeatedly, obtain a fresh export from the original site. A valid-looking filename does not guarantee valid JSON contents, so changing the extension or placing the file in a different WordPress folder will not repair a malformed export.
Can you import an Elementor template ZIP?
Yes. The individual-template workflow accepts a ZIP as well as JSON. Open the Template Library, choose My Templates, click the import icon, select the ZIP, wait for it to appear in the library, and click Insert.
Elementor’s developer documentation also describes a library ZIP containing multiple JSON files. That format is useful when several saved templates are being moved together, while a single JSON file is suitable for one library item.
A ZIP is also the local-file format for a complete website kit. Do not unpack a kit ZIP and upload random files through the Media Library. Use the Website Templates importer so Elementor can identify the kit’s templates, content, settings, and plugin requirements.
Install a complete Elementor website kit
Open the Website Templates importer
- Back up the site before starting.
- In WP Admin, go to Elementor > Editor > Home > Tools > Website Templates.
- Click Import.
- Choose Open the Library for a cloud template, or choose Import a zip file for a kit stored on your computer.
- Select the plugins required by the kit and click Next.
The cloud choice is appropriate when the kit is already offered through Elementor’s library. The ZIP choice is for a kit file on your computer or another storage location. In either case, pause at the plugin step and verify the dependencies instead of accepting a partial installation.
Select exactly what the kit should change
The next screen separates the kit into three categories:
- Templates: headers, footers, and saved site templates.
- Content: pages, posts, custom post types, text, and images.
- Site Settings: global fonts, theme style, layout, lightbox, and background settings.
Select all three when your goal is to recreate the complete exported site. Select only the category you need when preserving an existing site. For example, importing Templates without Site Settings avoids replacing global typography and layout choices, while importing Content without Templates brings in pages and media but not the kit’s headers and footers.
Use the categories as a change-control checklist:
- Choose Templates when you need the kit’s reusable headers, footers, or other saved site templates.
- Choose Content when the pages, posts, custom post types, text, and images are the important part.
- Choose Site Settings only when the kit’s global fonts, theme style, layout, lightbox, and backgrounds should govern the destination site.
There is no requirement to import every category on an existing project. Narrowing the selection reduces the chance that a useful page design will replace an established global system.
Review the result and avoid accidental overwrites
Because Site Settings can affect the whole site, read each selection before confirming. If the kit is being installed on an existing project, compare the selected global settings with the current design and keep a backup that you can restore. A clean WordPress site is preferable when installing a kit where possible, according to Elementor’s kit guidance.

After a complete import, inspect a representative page, a post, and the front-end header and footer. Confirm that images appear, custom post types are present, and global typography and layout look as expected. If only some categories were selected, verify that the omissions were intentional rather than the result of a skipped checkbox.
Elementor’s complete procedure and category definitions are documented at Import and export Elementor website templates.

There is a second dashboard route for kits already available in Elementor’s Website Templates library:
- Go to WP Admin > Templates > Website Templates.
- Preview the kit you want to use.
- Click Apply.
- Choose Customize to select individual parts, or Apply All to apply the complete kit.
Use Customize when you need only selected headers, footers, pages, or settings. Use Apply All only when the kit is intended to define the whole site. Elementor recommends a clean WordPress installation for a kit where possible. Details: Apply selected parts of a kit.
This library route differs from uploading a local file: you begin with a kit Elementor already exposes, preview it, and then decide whether to apply selected components or everything. The same scope principle applies—use a partial application when the existing WordPress site already has content or global styling you need to retain.
Import kits with WP-CLI
WP-CLI is useful when you maintain several WordPress installations or want a repeatable deployment instead of clicking through the dashboard. Elementor’s documented command is:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
wp elementor kit import <file-path> [--include] [--overrideConditions] [--sourceType]
Replace <file-path> with the path to the kit ZIP. The documented example is:
wp elementor kit import path/to/elementor-kit.zip
The --include option accepts content, templates, and site-settings. Omitting --include imports all data types. Use an inclusion value when a deployment should deliberately exclude categories such as global settings or content. The optional --overrideConditions and --sourceType flags are available as documented by Elementor; use their documented values for your environment rather than guessing flag syntax.
For example, the command without --include is the broadest operation because it imports all three data types. An inclusion setting is the safer choice for a controlled deployment where only content, only templates, or only site settings should move. Test the command on a backed-up installation before applying it to a production site.
For a single library template, Elementor’s developer documentation also supports a JSON file or a ZIP containing multiple JSON files. The library-import reference is Elementor CLI library import. The kit command and option definitions are at Elementor CLI kit import.

Dashboard or WP-CLI: which route should you use?
| Decision point | Dashboard importer | WP-CLI |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | One-off imports and visual selection of kit parts | Repeatable deployments and scripted workflows |
| Individual template | Template Library accepts JSON or ZIP | Library import supports a JSON file or ZIP containing multiple JSON files |
| Complete kit | Website Templates screen accepts a cloud kit or local ZIP | wp elementor kit import accepts a kit file path |
| Scope control | Checkboxes for Templates, Content, and Site Settings | --include values: content, templates, or site-settings; omit the option for all |
| Operational requirement | WordPress administrator access and a browser upload | Shell access, WP-CLI, and a file path readable by WordPress |
The dashboard exposes the import choices interactively. WP-CLI is more controllable for automation, but it does not remove the need to validate the ZIP, confirm required plugins, and maintain a recoverable backup.
Choose the dashboard when you need to preview a kit visually or decide component by component. Choose WP-CLI when the same kit must be deployed repeatedly and the operator has shell access. Neither route bypasses server permissions, security rules, plugin dependencies, or file validation.
Why an Elementor template is not importing
The JSON is invalid
An invalid template or JSON file is a documented cause of import failure. Re-download the export, verify the extension, and try the file in the Template Library rather than the Media Library. If the same file fails repeatedly, obtain a fresh export from the original site.
A security layer blocks the request
Elementor identifies ModSecurity and other security software blocking WordPress admin-ajax.php as another cause of kit preview or import failures. Ask the host or administrator to inspect the security log and allow the legitimate WordPress AJAX request, then retry the preview or import. Do not disable security permanently without understanding what rule was triggered.
The wrong importer was used
A page JSON belongs in the Template Library. A complete kit ZIP belongs in Website Templates or the kit command. If a file does not appear in the expected screen, return to the scope table and use the route matching its export type.
Required plugins were not selected
During a kit import, review the plugin-selection step before clicking Next. Select the plugins the kit requires, then import the categories you actually want. Widgets or content that depend on an unselected plugin may be absent even when the ZIP itself is valid.
The kit is too large for the server limits
For a large kit, use the ZIP route and check hosting upload and server limits. The official guide presents ZIP upload as the local alternative for kit handling; a browser timeout or rejected upload can therefore be a server-limit issue rather than a bad template. Check the maximum upload size, request time, and available disk space with the host before retrying.
If the upload reaches the server but the process times out, record the exact error and time. That information helps the host distinguish an upload-size limit from a request-time or security rule. Keep the original ZIP so you can retry after the limit is adjusted.

- Open the inserted page or imported site and confirm that the intended templates, content, and settings are present.
- Check headers and footers if you imported Templates.
- Check typography, layout, lightbox, and background behavior if you imported Site Settings.
- Check pages, posts, custom post types, text, and images if you imported Content.
- Confirm that widgets supplied by selected plugins display correctly.
- Test the front end and the Elementor editor before handing the site back to visitors.
These checks are especially important after a kit import because the operation can span global settings and site content, whereas an individual template insertion is limited to the design you placed on the open page.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.

Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
If the result is incomplete, compare it with the categories you selected and the plugins you activated. A missing header may mean Templates was excluded; missing pages or images may mean Content was excluded; changed typography may indicate Site Settings was included. This comparison usually identifies a scope choice faster than repeatedly uploading the same file.
A practical import checklist
- Identify whether the file is an individual template or a complete kit.
- Back up the WordPress site and confirm the backup can be restored.
- Verify that a single template is JSON or ZIP and that a kit is a ZIP or cloud library item.
- Use the Template Library for an individual design and Website Templates for a kit.
- Select the plugins required by the kit before proceeding.
- Choose Templates, Content, and Site Settings deliberately rather than automatically.
- Keep SVG importing limited to exports you created or trust.
- After import, inspect the editor, front end, global settings, content, and plugin-powered widgets.
- If it fails, check invalid JSON, blocked
admin-ajax.php, wrong scope, plugin selection, and server upload limits in that order.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I import an Elementor template into WordPress?
For one page, section, block, header, footer, or saved template, open the destination page in Elementor, click the Template Library folder, choose My Templates, click the import icon, select the .json or .zip file, and click Insert. Use Website Templates instead when the file is a complete kit.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →How do I upload an Elementor JSON file?
Open the Elementor Editor on the page where you want the design, open the Template Library, select My Templates, click the import icon, choose the JSON file with Select File, and click Insert after it appears in the library. Do not upload the JSON through the WordPress Media Library.
Can I import an Elementor template ZIP?
Yes. The individual Template Library workflow accepts a ZIP as well as JSON. A ZIP can also be a complete website kit, but kit ZIPs should be imported through WP Admin > Elementor > Editor > Home > Tools > Website Templates > Import or with the Elementor WP-CLI kit command.
How do I install a full Elementor kit?
Back up the site, open Elementor > Editor > Home > Tools > Website Templates, click Import, choose Open the Library or Import a zip file, select the required plugins, and click Next. Then choose Templates, Content, Site Settings, or all three. Elementor recommends a clean WordPress site for a kit where possible.
Should I import Templates, Content, and Site Settings together?
Select all three when you want to recreate the complete exported site. On an existing site, select only what you need. Templates include headers and footers, Content includes pages, posts, custom post types, text, and images, and Site Settings includes global fonts, theme style, layout, lightbox, and backgrounds.
Why is my Elementor template not importing?
Check that the JSON is valid and was exported by Elementor, that you used the importer matching the file scope, and that required plugins were selected. For kit preview or import failures, ModSecurity or another security layer may be blocking admin-ajax.php. Large ZIPs can also hit upload, request-time, or disk limits.
Can I import an Elementor kit from the command line?
Yes. Elementor documents wp elementor kit import <file-path> [--include] [--overrideConditions] [--sourceType]. The –include values are content, templates, and site-settings; omitting –include imports all data types. Use WP-CLI only when shell access and a readable kit path are available.
Are SVG files safe to import with an Elementor kit?
Treat SVG warnings seriously. Enable SVG imports only when you created the export or trust its source. Otherwise leave SVG importing disabled and use verified replacement assets.
The Bottom Line
Use the Elementor Template Library for a single JSON or ZIP template, and use Website Templates for a complete kit. Back up first, select only the kit categories and plugins you actually need, and troubleshoot invalid JSON, blocked admin-ajax.php, SVG warnings, and server limits before retrying.
