How to install the client
- Open the official CurseForge project page. Choose the Paradise of Lucky Blocks project and install the available modpack profile through your launcher.
- Confirm the profile version. Open the profile’s settings or version details and verify that it reports Minecraft 1.8.9 and Forge 1.8.9.
- Start the instance once. Let the launcher create the profile and download its files. Stop at the title screen if you only want to verify loading.
- Check the main menu and a test world. Create a temporary world and confirm that Lucky Blocks and the included utility mods are present before moving an established save.
- Do not mix mod loaders or versions. Adding a modern Lucky Block JAR, a Fabric mod, or a Forge build for another Minecraft version can produce a crash before the menu appears.
If the launcher reports a missing dependency, close it and compare the installed profile with the official project release rather than downloading random replacement JARs. The pack’s historical support notes specifically mention a duplicated Lucky Block file, so inspect the profile’s mods folder before making broader changes.

The author says the pack will no longer receive frequent updates because it is built on an older Minecraft version and already includes many Lucky Blocks. The project is described as complete and fully playable. That status matters when planning a long-running server: fixes and compatibility refreshes may be less frequent than for actively developed packs.
Self-hosting with the standard server pack
Self-hosting gives you control over the world, files, backups, and access rules, but you are responsible for installing the correct Java and Forge environment, arranging the files correctly, and diagnosing crashes.
- Create a dedicated server directory. Use a new folder that is separate from your client profile and from unrelated Minecraft worlds.
- Download the Paradise of Lucky Blocks Server Pack ZIP. CurseForge identifies it as a Forge 1.8.9 server pack. Keep the original archive as a rollback copy.
- Install the server-side Forge files. Use the Forge 1.8.9 server installation option and the Java runtime supported by that older Forge environment. Do not select a newer Minecraft version during installation.
- Extract the ZIP into the server directory. Preserve the archive’s folder structure. If extraction creates an extra wrapper folder, move the actual server contents up one level so the Forge files and
modsdirectory are in the directory from which you start the server. - Run the server once. The first launch creates configuration and world files and may display the server software’s legal acceptance prompt. Complete that prompt before starting again.
- Stop the server cleanly. Use the server console’s normal stop command rather than closing the process window. This reduces the chance of a partially written world.
- Install the same client pack for every player. Players should use the same Minecraft 1.8.9 Forge profile and the same release of the mod set. A server can start while a mismatched client is still unable to join.
- Start the server and test locally. Join with one client, open a test world area, break and place Lucky Blocks, and verify that recipes, trades, and items load correctly.
- Back up before opening the server publicly. Copy the world and configuration directories while the server is stopped. Keep at least one backup from before every mod or configuration change.
Keeping the installation layout correct
The most common file-layout mistake is extracting the ZIP into a nested folder and then launching a different directory. The directory you launch must contain the Forge server files and the pack’s mods folder. If the console starts as a nearly vanilla server or reports missing classes, stop it and inspect the path before changing individual mods.

Client/server parity checklist
- Both sides report Minecraft 1.8.9.
- Both sides use Forge rather than different loaders.
- Both sides use the same Paradise of Lucky Blocks release.
- The Lucky Block JAR and other required JARs are present once, not twice.
- No player has added a newer or unrelated mod to only one side.

When the performance server pack makes sense
The separate Performance Update Serverpack lists Better FPS, Entity Culling, Fast Leaf Decay, FoamFix, and Patcher as optimization features. Its listed contents indicate its intended use, but they are not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or server tick rate. Test it with the same world and player activity that causes trouble on the standard pack.
When managed hosting makes sense
WinterNode advertises one-click installation, preinstalled Forge mods, and a 4 GB RAM recommendation for a small group. That number is the provider’s recommendation, not an official minimum published by the pack author. Modpacks.ch also advertises dedicated server setup matched to Paradise of Lucky Blocks. Before committing, confirm the exact Minecraft and Forge versions, whether the provider installs the standard or performance pack, how backups are handled, and whether you can upload a corrected mod file yourself.
How much RAM does the server need?
No authoritative minimum-RAM specification from the pack author is published. The only concrete figure in the available hosting guidance is WinterNode’s 4 GB recommendation for a small group, and it should be treated as a starting recommendation rather than a universal requirement.

Allocate memory only after confirming that the correct Forge profile is running. More RAM cannot repair a duplicate JAR, a wrong Minecraft version, or a client/server mismatch. If the server repeatedly reaches its memory limit, reduce view distance and unnecessary entity activity, review installed files, and then reassess the allocation.
Performance tuning without breaking the pack
- Verify the baseline. Reproduce the lag with the standard pack and note whether the problem is client frame rate, server tick delay, or both.
- Check the older hardware first. The 1.8.9 base and the large Lucky Block collection can be harder on older PCs than a lightly modded vanilla world.
- Reduce view distance. Lower the server and client view-distance settings and test the same area again. This reduces the amount of world and entity activity that must be processed and sent.
- Try the Performance Update Serverpack. Its listed Better FPS, Entity Culling, Fast Leaf Decay, FoamFix, and Patcher components are the supported route documented for optimization.
- Check memory allocation. Look for repeated memory pressure before installing unrelated third-party optimization software.
- Keep the mod set stable. Add one change at a time, back up first, and make the same required change on both client and server.
Troubleshooting common failures
The game crashes before the title screen
Confirm that the launcher is using Minecraft 1.8.9 and Forge 1.8.9. If the profile is correct, inspect the mods folder for a second copy of the Lucky Block file or another JAR from a different Minecraft version. Restore the clean pack files if you cannot identify the mismatch.
The server starts, but players cannot join
Compare the client and server mod directories and versions. The server pack and client profile must represent the same release, and the client must use Forge 1.8.9. A player who has added an extra mod or retained an old JAR can receive a missing-mod or channel-mismatch error even when the server console looks healthy.

Two Lucky Block JARs are present
The project page documents a historical duplicated-mod error involving lucky-block-forge-1.8.9-2.0.jar. Stop the game or server, open the relevant mods folder, and remove one of the duplicate copies. Do not delete both; the pack still needs one compatible copy.
The server feels laggy after adding many Lucky Blocks
Separate client frame-rate problems from server simulation problems. Start with lower view distance, a memory check, and the performance server pack. The older base version and the pack’s large Lucky Block collection are known pressure points, but no published benchmark establishes a single player-count or RAM threshold.
Blocks or items are missing after an update
Verify that you installed the latest complete pack rather than copying files from an older tutorial. ArmorPlus, FancyMenu, and Konkrete were removed from the latest version, so an old guide that expects them may describe a different file set. Restore the official release files before attempting manual substitutions.
The server behaves like vanilla
Check that you launched the directory containing the extracted Forge server files and the pack’s mods folder. A nested extraction directory or a start script pointed at the wrong working directory can produce a server that runs without the intended mods.
Operating a small community server
- Keep the original server ZIP, a clean client profile, and a known-good backup outside the live directory.
- Stop the server before copying worlds or changing JARs.
- Record every mod or configuration change so you can reverse it.
- Test upgrades on a copy of the world before applying them to the live server.
- Ask every player to use the same profile instead of distributing individual replacement files.
- Do not promise frequent upstream updates; the author describes the pack as complete and no longer updated frequently.
For a managed host, apply the same discipline through the control panel: verify the selected Forge and Minecraft versions, confirm the installed pack variant, create a backup before changes, and retain the ability to upload or remove a specific JAR when troubleshooting requires it.
