What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The full PC version of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is scheduled for October 14, 2026, so there are no verified full-game settings or fixes for FPS drops and stuttering yet. The Steam demo is available, but player reports of a Direct3D 12 startup crash—and a mixed, unverified -dx11 workaround—concern launching the demo, not improving performance. For now, the most useful step is to compare your PC with Steam’s current requirements and treat its FPS figures as targets published by the store, not benchmark results.
What you can do before the full game releases
As of October 7, 2026, Steam lists the full PC release for October 14 and says the game is not yet available. A demo is available. Neither the Steam listing nor the other sources reviewed provide independent full-game benchmarks or tested settings for reducing stutter. That means no specific graphics option, driver change, or hardware upgrade can responsibly be promised to raise FPS or smooth frame pacing in the full release.
Start by checking whether your PC meets the current Steam requirements. Steam currently pairs its minimum configuration with 1080p on Low at a stated 60 FPS target, and its recommended configuration with 1440p on High at a stated 60 FPS target. These are store-published expectations, not measured results, and Steam does not state expected performance for systems between or below those tiers.
Compare your PC with Steam’s current requirements
The following figures are from Steam’s listing as reviewed October 7, 2026. Its stated quality, resolution, and FPS combinations are targets published by the store; they are not independent test results.

There is a conflict between the official PC requirement pages
Auroch Digital’s FAQ lists substantially older minimum and recommended hardware, DirectX 11, and 5 GB of storage. Steam’s current listing instead specifies DirectX 12 and 13 GB, along with newer processors and graphics cards. The sources do not explain whether the FAQ is outdated or refers to a different build, so do not combine the two tables or assume the older FAQ figures are definitive. Check both official pages for updates before relying on the requirements after launch.
FPS drops and stuttering are not the same as a startup crash
Low average FPS means the game is rendering slowly overall. Stuttering is uneven frame delivery, which can happen even when the average FPS seems acceptable. A game that crashes while opening has a different problem: it has not reached a playable scene where FPS or frame pacing can be assessed.

The reported issue in the available demo discussion is a startup crash showing a Direct3D 12 error. It does not establish that the demo—or the full game—has an FPS or stuttering problem, and a crash workaround is not evidence of a performance improvement.
Demo-only workaround reported by players
In a May 2026 Steam discussion, some players said the launch option -dx11 let the demo start after a Direct3D 12 error. Reports were mixed: another player said it did not work, and the thread included reports of the crash continuing. This is an anecdotal demo startup workaround, not a developer-confirmed fix, proof that DirectX 11 is supported in the final release, or a way to increase FPS.

How to evaluate performance after release
Once the full game is available, make one change at a time and compare performance in the same scene. Record the game build, PC hardware, graphics settings, resolution, and graphics-driver version alongside any FPS or stutter measurement. Without those details, a setting change or player report cannot show whether a result is repeatable or applies to another PC.

- If performance is consistently low, compare your CPU, GPU, RAM, operating system, and storage with Steam’s listing.
- If the game runs but stutters, look for repeatable comparisons using the same scene and settings; the available sources do not identify a verified Boltgun 2 stutter fix.
