Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe fastest reliable way to increase FPS in Warframe is to work from a measured baseline, repair the game files with the launcher’s Verify and Optimize commands, update Windows and device drivers, then lower the settings that add rendering work. If performance is still poor, compare DirectX 11 with DirectX 12 Beta on the same scene and check whether your hardware is below the game’s published minimum. No single setting produces the same result on every PC, so use repeatable tests instead of assuming a universal FPS gain.
1. Measure your current performance before changing anything
Record a baseline so you can tell whether a change helped. Use Warframe’s FPS display or an overlay and write down:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Average FPS and, if available, 1% lows or visible stutter.
- Display resolution and refresh rate.
- Whether the game is using DirectX 11 or DirectX 12 Beta.
- The exact graphics preset and any individual settings you changed.
- Where the slowdown happens: continuously, during combat, in a relay or other hub, or only in an open-world area.
Run each comparison in the same mission or repeatable scene for roughly the same amount of time. A configuration can show a higher average while still feeling worse if its frame-time spikes increase. Also note image clarity, input response, temperatures or power draw, and crashes. Digital Extremes publishes no universal FPS increase for any particular setting, so your own before-and-after measurements are the useful result.
2. Repair Warframe’s files with Verify and Optimize
Corrupt or inconsistent files can cause stutter, crashes and unusual loading behavior. Digital Extremes’ official support procedure is to use both launcher maintenance commands before changing advanced settings.

- Open the standalone Warframe launcher. If it is already open, close the game so the launcher is in control.
- Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner.
- Select Verify and wait for the process to finish. Verification compares your local files with Digital Extremes’ content delivery network and repairs or replaces files that do not match.
- After Verify completes, choose Optimize and let the launcher finish. Do not interrupt either operation by shutting down the PC or launching the game.
- Start Warframe and repeat the baseline test in the same scene.
The launcher’s standalone installer page lists build Warframe.2026.10.05.08.16.b00 in 2026. Your installed build can differ as updates roll out, so allow the launcher to finish updating before you evaluate performance.
3. Update Windows and every relevant driver
Install current Windows updates, your graphics driver and other device drivers before judging FPS. Driver changes can affect rendering, stability and device communication even when the game itself has not changed.
Desktop PCs
Use the current driver supplied by your graphics-card manufacturer, then restart Windows. If you use a separate sound card, network adapter or other add-in device and it has a documented driver update, install that as well.

Do not compare results until Windows and drivers have completed their pending restarts. Record the driver version with your baseline so you can identify whether a later change came from software rather than a graphics setting.
4. Lower the settings that add rendering work
Open Options > Video. Digital Extremes explains that sharper textures, smoother edges and greater view distance require more work from the computer and can affect both performance and stability. Start with the Quality Preset, then make targeted changes so you know which compromise matters to you.
| Control | First test | What you trade away |
|---|---|---|
| Quality Preset | Move from the current value to Medium; use Low if frame rate remains inadequate. | Overall image quality is reduced together instead of changing one effect at a time. |
| Sun Shadows | On the Enhanced Graphics Engine, disable it. | Sun-cast shadow detail and some lighting depth. |
| Enhanced Decals | Disable it when effects or combat scenes are heavy. | Additional surface marks and impact detail. |
| SSAO quality | Reduce the quality or disable SSAO. | Ambient-shadowing depth around objects and contact areas. |
Use a staged adjustment rather than changing everything at once
- Set the preset to Medium, keep the resolution and API unchanged, and repeat your baseline scene.
- If the result is still below your target, test Low.
- Return to the better preset and disable Sun Shadows, then test again.
- Disable Enhanced Decals and test.
- Lower or disable SSAO and test.
Changing one group at a time shows which visual effect costs you the most. If a lower preset improves the average but introduces distracting blur, restore it and keep only the individual reductions that deliver a smoother frame time. A lower setting is not automatically better if it causes you to lose information needed for play.

5. Understand the Enhanced Graphics Engine
The Enhanced Graphics Engine became the new PC default in Digital Extremes’ Update 33 patch notes on April 26, 2023. Its practical controls include the Medium and Low presets, Sun Shadows, Enhanced Decals and SSAO quality. The engine is designed to scale across hardware, but the default is not a promise that every PC will maintain the same frame rate.

When troubleshooting, first confirm which preset and engine options are actually active after an update. A patch can reset or add settings. Make one change, leave the other variables alone, and verify that the launcher has completed its update before drawing conclusions.
6. Test DirectX 11 against DirectX 12 Beta
Warframe supports DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 Beta. Digital Extremes does not identify a universal winner, because the result depends on the graphics card, processor, drivers and the scene being rendered.
- Choose one API in the launcher or game configuration.
- Keep the resolution, preset, individual settings and frame-rate measurement method identical.
- Load the same mission or location and record average FPS, frame-time consistency, image quality, temperatures and any stutter or crash.
- Switch to the other API, restart if prompted, and repeat the identical test.
- Keep the API that behaves better on your hardware, not the one that appears preferable in general discussions.
If DirectX 12 Beta produces hitching or instability while DirectX 11 is consistent, use DirectX 11 for normal play and report the problem through the game’s support channels. If DirectX 12 Beta is smoother on your system, keep it only after it passes several different scenes, including a hub or open-world area where you normally notice the slowdown.
7. Remove background conflicts while diagnosing FPS drops
Digital Extremes notes that applications running in the background and other factors not listed in the minimum specification can affect performance. Temporarily simplify the system so you can isolate the cause.

- Close non-essential startup applications, monitoring utilities, disk tools and network utilities.
- Unplug non-essential external hardware while testing, especially devices that install their own services or overlays.
- Restart Windows and launch only the game and the tools needed to measure FPS.
- Repeat the same scene and compare frame rate, stutter and stability.
- Restore your normal startup items and peripherals one at a time after the test. The item that brings the problem back is a useful lead.
This is a diagnostic step, not a recommendation to permanently disable security or accessibility software. Keep essential protection enabled, and return the system to its normal configuration when testing is complete.
8. Check whether your hardware is below the published minimum
Digital Extremes’ current minimum PC specification, accessed in 2026, is a baseline for running the game—not a guarantee of a particular FPS, resolution or quality preset.
| Component | Published minimum | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 7 64-bit | Newer supported Windows versions may be preferable for current drivers and updates. |
| Processor | Intel Core i7-860 or AMD FX-4170-class CPU | Busy open worlds and background applications can still expose CPU limits. |
| System memory | 4 GB RAM | This is a low baseline; running other programs at the same time can leave less memory for the game. |
| Graphics card | DirectX 11 or newer graphics card | A DirectX 11-compatible gaming graphics card is the explicit graphics requirement; better hardware gives more headroom. |
| Storage | 75 GB available | Keep enough free space for installation and updates; capacity alone does not establish an FPS gain. |
| Internet | Broadband internet | Connection quality affects online responsiveness and loading, which is separate from rendered FPS. |
Digital Extremes says it thoroughly tests the listed minimum and makes sure Warframe can run without issues, while also warning that laptop-versus-desktop design, background applications and other unlisted factors affect performance. If your system only meets the minimum, lower settings and a consistent API are more realistic than expecting high visual quality and high frame rates simultaneously.
9. Diagnose slowdowns that happen only in certain places
FPS is low everywhere
- Complete Verify and Optimize.
- Update Windows, the graphics driver and device drivers.
- Test Medium, then Low, before changing API.
- Compare DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 Beta with identical settings.
FPS is acceptable in missions but poor in hubs or open worlds
Record a separate baseline in the location where the problem occurs. Keep the same resolution and API while reducing Sun Shadows, Enhanced Decals and SSAO. These scenes can expose CPU, memory or streaming limits that a simple corridor does not reveal, so do not conclude that a setting is ineffective because it made no difference in an easier mission.

Stutter or crashes started after an update
Run Verify and Optimize, confirm that the launcher finished updating, and test both APIs. Then remove non-essential background utilities and external devices temporarily. If one API or a recently reintroduced background program consistently causes the failure, keep the stable configuration and document the driver, API and scene when contacting support.
The game looks smooth but input feels inconsistent
Compare 1% lows or frame-time behavior, not only the average FPS. A setting that raises the average while adding spikes is not an improvement for play. Keep the configuration with steadier delivery, even if its average number is slightly lower.
10. Compare two configurations fairly
| Measure | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Average FPS | Shows overall throughput in the selected scene. |
| 1% lows or visible stutter | Reveals short drops that an average hides. |
| Image clarity | Shows whether the performance gain is worth the visual loss. |
| Input latency | Indicates how responsive aiming and movement feel. |
| Power and temperature | Helps identify whether the configuration causes sustained thermal or power pressure. |
| Stability | Records crashes, hangs and unusual loading behavior. |
Use the same resolution, refresh rate, scene, API and test duration for both configurations. Because the official material provides no FPS benchmark table, a result measured on one PC should not be presented as a guaranteed gain for another.

11. A practical order of operations
For most systems, this sequence minimizes wasted testing:
- Record the baseline, including location, resolution, refresh rate, API and settings.
- Run launcher Verify, then Optimize.
- Install current Windows, graphics and device-driver updates; restart.
- Set the Video Quality Preset to Medium and measure.
- Try Low if Medium is insufficient.
- On the Enhanced engine, disable Sun Shadows and Enhanced Decals, then reduce or disable SSAO.
- Compare DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 Beta in the same scene.
- Temporarily remove background software and non-essential hardware to find conflicts.
- Keep the configuration that delivers the best combination of stable frame times, acceptable clarity and reliable play.
This workflow separates file corruption, outdated software, rendering load, API behavior and system conflicts. It also gives you a reproducible record if you need to report a problem rather than relying on a vague impression that the game “feels slow.”
Quick Recap
After the manual checks, Outbyte PC Repair is an optional shortcut for Windows issues: it can address more than 100 common problems where possible, adjust settings, clean temporary and cache files, check vulnerabilities and keep an app-crash log. It runs on Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7; a free trial by category lasts at least two days before a paid subscription. It complements antivirus software rather than replacing it, results vary, and no tool repairs every crash.
