What determines Midas Staff damage?
The Midas Staff’s ability, Molten Wave, has base damage that scales with the number of coins paid for the staff. The Hypixel SkyBlock Wiki lists 32,000 maximum base damage at a 100 million coin bid. It also lists a Golden Fragment upgrade that raises the maximum to 34,000 at a 500 million coin value. The page’s history records that the upgraded maximum was reduced from 40,000 on June 26, 2024. These are wiki-listed figures, not a guarantee of current in-game availability or cost.
The damage you deal is also affected by your stats. The Ability Damage page gives this calculation:
Base ability damage × (1 + (Intelligence ÷ 100 × ability scaling)) × (1 + (Ability Damage ÷ 100))

Intelligence is multiplied by the ability’s scaling factor, while Ability Damage is a separate multiplier. Raising either can increase the resulting ability damage; the formula does not identify Strength as a Molten Wave multiplier.
How to increase it, in practical order
- Check the staff’s bid value. A higher paid bid means higher listed base Molten Wave damage. The wiki lists 100 million coins as the bid for 32,000 base damage.
- Check the Golden Fragment upgrade. The wiki lists 34,000 base damage at a 500 million coin value with this upgrade. Confirm the live recipe, requirements, and cost in game before committing.
- Raise Intelligence and Ability Damage. These are the player-side stats named in the damage formula. Compare loadouts with the same staff and target conditions to see their effects without changing multiple variables at once.
- Consider Gilded. Applying a Midas Jewel gives a Midas Staff the Gilded reforge, which the wiki lists as adding Ability Damage, Damage, and Strength. Its history says the Ability Damage bonus replaced an Intelligence bonus in the July 2024 update, so older descriptions may be stale.

Weapon stats such as Damage and Strength are not the same as Molten Wave’s base ability damage. Do not assume that adding Strength by itself raises the ability damage described by the formula.

Why a hit may differ from the listed maximum
The wiki describes Molten Wave as costing 500 Mana and traveling a reported 14 blocks. It stops at walls and carpets, and targets caught in the wave take the full ability damage. A target outside the wave’s path may not be hit, but range and obstacles do not change the damage multipliers.
A damage figure seen in game can also reflect player-side modifiers rather than just the weapon’s base figure. For example, a community post asks why a staff with an 82 million coin bid showed a bonus damage figure above a stated 26,000 maximum; a reply points to other modifiers such as Gilded or Ability Damage sources. That exchange is anecdotal, not an authoritative explanation of every displayed figure. When diagnosing a difference, separate the weapon’s base damage from the final hit and check the current bid, upgrade, and player stats.
