If Minecraft Bedrock shows too little of the world, raise the in-game render-distance setting as far as your device allows and performance remains smooth. If the slider is already high but distant terrain is still missing in multiplayer, the server may be imposing a lower view-distance limit. There is no single repair that works across every platform: the effective distance depends on the device, client setting and, online, server configuration.
What render distance changes
Render distance is the distance, measured in chunks, from the player or camera at which the game draws blocks, entities and other potentially visible objects. Beyond that range, objects are not rendered. Raising the setting therefore makes more of the world visible, but also asks the client’s graphics engine to do more work and can lower frame rate. Microsoft Learn’s Bedrock guide, last updated September 23, 2025, describes the setting and its performance trade-off.

How to change render distance
-
Open Minecraft Bedrock’s settings and find the render-distance control. Its exact menu location can vary by platform and game build.
-
Move the control higher, staying within the available slider range. Apply the change if the game prompts you to do so.

Check the view and frame rate in the world. If performance becomes choppy, lower the setting until play is smooth enough for you.
-
In multiplayer, compare the result with a single-player world. If distant terrain appears in your own world but not on the server, the server’s view-distance may be the limiting factor.

Microsoft Learn gives an allowable range of 4–96 chunks, with PC able to reach up to 96 and defaults on some other devices as low as 4. These are general figures, not a guarantee that every device or build offers the same slider range.
Why the setting may seem stuck or ineffective
The device limits the available setting
Bedrock’s available render distance depends on the device and configuration. If the slider stops before the value you want, that may be the limit exposed for your platform rather than a broken control. The Microsoft Learn range is broad and does not establish a universal maximum for every device.

A multiplayer server sets a lower view distance
In multiplayer, the client renders to the lower of its own setting and the server’s view-distance. For example, a high client setting cannot make the server send or expose a greater effective view distance when its limit is lower. Microsoft Learn describes a typical Realms maximum of 20 chunks; treat that as typical, not as a guaranteed cap for every Realm or server.
Render distance is not simulation distance
Render distance controls what the client draws. Simulation distance controls how far game activity ticks, including entity behavior, mob spawning, crop growth and fluid movement. A nearby farm or entity that is not updating points to simulation or ticking behavior, not necessarily a rendering problem.

| Setting | What it affects | Performance considerations | What can limit it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Render distance | How far blocks, entities and other visible objects are drawn. | Adds graphics work for the client; higher values can reduce frame rate. | Device and client setting; in multiplayer, the server’s view-distance can impose a lower effective range. |
| Simulation distance | How far game behavior ticks, including entities, spawning, crops and fluids. | Affects both client and server and can be more costly than render distance. | Device configuration; it must be no greater than render distance. |
Microsoft Learn says simulation distance defaults to 4 chunks and may be set as high as 12, depending on device. That is a separate control and raising it does not extend how far the world is drawn.

Reduce particle density if you want to keep a higher render distance; this is one of Microsoft Learn’s suggested performance adjustments.

Lower render distance if frame rate remains poor. Fog may make fewer objects visible within the rendered area, but it does not make the engine render chunks beyond the distance limit.
These adjustments address settings and visual workload; they do not guarantee a particular frame rate on every device.
