In Where Winds Meet, learning a Lightness Skill and gaining permission to use it in a region are separate steps. For Qinghe, complete Jianghu Legacy 05: Afterglow to learn Meteor Flight, then reach Qinghe Exploration Level 4 and claim the Afterglow Pendant. If a skill seems unlocked but will not activate, check that it is selected and that you have the active region’s permit.
How do you unlock flying in Where Winds Meet?
Learn Meteor Flight through Afterglow
For the Qinghe route, open Qinghe’s Jianghu Legacy and find Afterglow (Jianghu Legacy 05). Speak with Qiu Yuehai, complete the movement trial, and claim the Meteor Flight manual. This teaches the flight style; it does not by itself grant permission to fly in every region. The route is reported by TheGamer’s Lightness Skills guide and Gamepressure’s flying guide.

Claim Qinghe’s regional permit
Raise Qinghe Exploration to Level 4 and claim the Afterglow Pendant from its reward track. The pendant is the regional permission gate; the Meteor Flight manual is the skill unlock. A different region has its own requirement: the guides identify Kaifeng’s Flight Medallion, so do not assume Qinghe’s pendant works everywhere.
Other reported flight styles
TheGamer guide also reports these routes. These are guide-reported progression details, not guarantees that a style bypasses regional permission. Check your current in-game reward track if a milestone differs in your version.

|---|---|---|
| Meteor Flight | Complete Jianghu Legacy 05: Afterglow. | Claim the manual, then claim the active region’s permit. |
| Thousand-Mile Flight | Claim Day 4 of A Warrior’s Journey. | Confirm the reward is available in your current event or progression track. |

Why is a learned Lightness Skill unusable?
Work through these checks in order:
- Select the style: Open Mystic Skills → Movement and make sure the learned Lightness Skill is selected.
- Check the active region: Open that region’s Exploration rewards and confirm you claimed its flight permit. For Qinghe, the reported requirement is Level 4 and the Afterglow Pendant; Kaifeng has a separate Flight Medallion.
- Confirm the reward was claimed: Completing a quest or reaching a milestone is not the same as claiming its reward. Check Afterglow and the relevant Exploration track.
- Follow the on-screen input: On default PC controls, the reviewed Gamepressure guide gives the menu path H → Abilities → Mystic Skills → Movement → Lightness Skill; it says to hold Space to launch and press Space at the displayed flight prompts. Controls can be remapped, and other platforms differ, so use the current prompt shown in your game.
How do you unlock Wallstride?
Collect Oddities and submit them through Melodies of Peace, then claim the reward nodes as you reach them. TheGamer’s consolidated guide reports 21 submitted Oddities for Wallstride – Swiftstride and 45 total for Wallstride – Shadowdash. It maps earlier Chinese names to these current Global names and notes conflicting descriptions in some copied guide text; the in-game reward chain is the best check if a node or threshold does not match.
- Swiftstride: Improves wall-running and clearing wall edges.
- Shadowdash: Supports faster ground movement and running over water.
Which movement skill should you use?
| Skill | Best fit | Unlock or use note |
|---|---|---|
| Meteor Flight and other flight styles | Covering aerial distance. | Flight styles are distinct from regional permission; check the active region’s permit. |
| Threefold Skywalk and Skywalk Dash | Extending aerial movement. | The guide reports both are available from the opening tutorial. |
| Wallstride – Swiftstride | Running along walls and clearing wall edges. | Earned through Oddities and the Melodies of Peace reward chain. |
| Wallstride – Shadowdash | Fast ground movement and running over water. | Earned through the same reward chain; the guide reports 45 submitted Oddities in total. |
| Mighty Drop | Descending quickly. | Use it for a rapid descent. |
| Safe Mighty Drop | Reducing landing risk when using Mighty Drop. | The guide reports it as a first-clear reward from Mysterious Outpost in western Moonveil Mountain. Its protection is tied to using the move, not simply walking off a ledge. |
| Abyss Dive | Deep-water diving and swimming. | Use it for underwater routes. |
Where can you verify a conflicting unlock?
Unlock thresholds and menu labels are live-game details, and the specific routes above come from third-party guides rather than official skill documentation. The official Where Winds Meet site describes the game as an open-world action-adventure RPG rooted in wuxia, but does not establish the detailed skill routes listed here. When a guide and your game disagree, treat the current in-game skill description, quest reward, and regional Exploration track as authoritative for your version.
