Install the Flathub package org.vinegarhq.Sober, launch it, and follow its initial setup. This is a community project—not an officially supported Roblox Linux client—and compatibility can vary by hardware and experience.
Before installing: check whether your system is suitable
Sober’s requirements and troubleshooting guidance identify a few checks worth making before you install it. They can help explain an immediate crash or a graphics error, but meeting them does not guarantee that every experience will run.
- CPU: Sober’s FAQ says to check for the
sse4_1andsse4_2CPU flags in/proc/cpuinfo. Its troubleshooting guide identifies SSE4.2 as mandatory; checking the flags directly is more reliable than guessing from a processor’s age or model. - Linux kernel: The troubleshooting guide specifies kernel version 5.11 or newer.
- Graphics: The FAQ describes Vulkan as the expected graphics path for suitable GPUs and documents OpenGL as a fallback. Correct, current drivers matter. On NVIDIA systems, the system driver and the NVIDIA driver supplied for Flatpak should match.
- Video memory: High texture quality can contribute to out-of-memory crashes. Lowering texture quality may help, though the project does not guarantee that every experience will then work.
- Virtual machines: Sober’s guide says virtual machines are unsupported unless GPU passthrough is available, and performance may still be poor in some configurations.
- ARM devices: The project describes ARM support as an open beta that is not production-ready, so it should not be treated as ordinary, dependable support.

Install Sober from Flathub
Sober is distributed as a Flatpak on Flathub. You need Flatpak installed and Flathub configured for your Linux distribution. Flathub’s Sober listing can open the application in a compatible software manager; if that handoff does not work, Flathub also provides a .flatpakref option.

- Open the Sober page on Flathub and install it using your software manager or the available Flatpak reference file.
- Alternatively, if Flatpak and Flathub are already configured, install the package from a terminal with
flatpak install flathub org.vinegarhq.Sober. The application ID isorg.vinegarhq.Sober. - Launch Sober from your desktop application menu, or run
flatpak run org.vinegarhq.Soberin a terminal.
The terminal launch is especially useful if the app closes or prints an error, because it lets you see diagnostic output. Use the project’s own instructions if you need to troubleshoot a manual installation; avoid downloading Roblox APK files from unverified sites.
Complete the first-run setup and start playing
When Sober opens for the first time, follow its on-screen setup to obtain and start the Roblox client. The project says its automatic setup contacts Google Play APIs to obtain the appropriate package. If the setup stalls, check your internet connection; network filtering or an ISP block can interfere. The troubleshooting guide also suggests checking DNS or trying a VPN when access to those APIs is the problem.
After setup, use Sober to launch Roblox and join an experience. If a Roblox website link does not open Sober, the project’s troubleshooting guide points to desktop URI-handler or XDG portal configuration. That is a Linux desktop integration issue, not necessarily a problem with your Roblox account.

Understand what Sober does—and what it does not guarantee
Roblox Support’s computer hardware and operating system requirements page states: “Linux: Roblox is not supported on Linux.” Sober is an unofficial community project that runs Roblox’s Android client through a specialized Linux runtime; it is not a Roblox-endorsed Linux client. Its FAQ describes the software as unofficial research software and warns that Roblox could prevent Sober clients from accessing its services.
That distinction matters for compatibility. Sober’s FAQ says its runtime makes PC-only features and experiences available, but individual experiences can still reject the client, and project settings or Roblox behavior can change. In particular, an “Could not verify integrity” message or error 318 can be associated with Android Remote Attestation. The troubleshooting guide says experience-level attestation settings may change without notice. If you encounter this, consult the current project guidance or contact the experience’s developers; do not try to bypass security checks.
Sober is intended for playing Roblox experiences, not creating them. The project FAQ directs users who need Roblox Studio on Linux to Vinegar instead. Roblox lists Windows and macOS as supported computer platforms, while Linux is not officially supported.

Troubleshoot common Sober problems
Sober exits immediately
Check that the CPU supports SSE4.2 and that the kernel is version 5.11 or newer. Launch Sober from a terminal with flatpak run org.vinegarhq.Sober to inspect output. You can also check the application logs at ~/.var/app/org.vinegarhq.Sober/data/sober/sober_logs/. The troubleshooting guide has project-specific diagnostic steps.
Vulkan or other graphics errors
Confirm that your GPU drivers are installed and up to date. On NVIDIA, check that the host system driver and Flatpak NVIDIA driver versions match. If Vulkan is unavailable, Sober’s FAQ documents OpenGL as a fallback; actual results depend on your GPU and software setup. If the GPU lacks suitable graphics support, or repeatedly runs out of video memory, a hardware upgrade may be one option—but it is not necessary for every user and does not guarantee compatibility with every experience.

The game crashes with an out-of-memory error
The project says Sober may lower texture quality automatically when memory is constrained. Its troubleshooting guide documents texture-quality override settings for cases where further adjustment is needed. Lower quality can reduce memory pressure, but it does not ensure that a demanding experience will run.

“Could not verify integrity” or error 318
The project associates this error with Android Remote Attestation, which an experience may require. Check the current Sober troubleshooting information and contact the experience’s developers if needed. Do not attempt to bypass attestation or other security checks.
Automatic setup hangs or cannot fetch the client
Sober’s setup uses Google Play APIs to obtain the appropriate package. Check that your connection can reach those services; DNS configuration, network filtering, or ISP restrictions may be involved. The project guide discusses connection, DNS, and VPN checks.
A manually installed bundle is reported as invalid
The project says a valid manual installation needs both the base package and the matching architecture split APK. Prefer Sober’s automatic setup where possible, and follow the project’s current instructions for any manual procedure rather than mixing files from different sources or architectures.

Roblox links from the website do not open Sober
Check the Linux desktop’s XDG portal and URI-handler setup, as described in the project troubleshooting guide. The issue may be the handoff between the browser and desktop application rather than Roblox itself.
When Sober is—and is not—the right option
Sober is a route for Linux users who want to try Roblox experiences through an unofficial Android-client runtime and are comfortable with variable compatibility. It is not equivalent to an officially supported desktop client: Linux is excluded from Roblox Support’s listed platforms, some experiences can impose additional restrictions, and graphics or system configuration can determine whether it runs well.
If you need Roblox Studio, use the project’s recommended alternative, Vinegar. If dependable access and official platform support are essential, Roblox’s listed Windows or macOS platforms are the supported choices.
