- Install the Steam game. Confirm you are working with the Steam version named by the mod team.
- Get the official beta files and read their instructions first. Use the project’s own release information, including its Tales of ABCDE Discord updates, to confirm the download and requirements.
- Back up the original files. Locate
TOS.EXEand preserve an untouched copy, along with any other files the project instructions identify. Keep the backup outside the files being patched. - Apply the xdelta patch to the specified executable. Use only the target file, game build, and patcher version named by the mod authors. The announcement does not establish those specifics, so do not select them by guesswork.

How to keep the original game recoverable
Preserve the untouched executable and any files you replace so you can restore the original state if patching fails. If the release provides an uninstaller or rollback procedure, follow that procedure; the pre-release announcement does not establish one. Avoid layering other mods onto the installation until the project documents compatibility.
Definitive Edition and TSFix are separate projects
Tales of Symphonia Fix (TSFix) is an older, separate project. Its Steam Community guide documents an automated SKIM64 installer: run SKIM64 and select “Tales of Symphonia ‘Fix’.” Its manual method extracts tsfix.7z into the game installation directory and copies default_tsfix.ini and default_d3d9.ini to working configuration filenames. TSFix release notes also contain version-dependent instructions, including Steam auto-update advice. Use the current instructions for the TSFix release you choose, and do not treat TSFix or SKIM64 as a prerequisite for the new Definitive Edition mod: the new project’s announcement does not establish that relationship.
