What you need before installing a map
A BeamMP server creates its configuration file and resource directories during the first launch. The normal layout uses a server working directory containing ServerConfig.toml and a Resources directory. Inside that directory, Resources/Client is the location for client-side resource archives such as map mods.

- A map mod distributed as a ZIP archive.
- A BeamNG.drive and BeamMP version combination supported by that map.
- Access to the BeamMP server’s working directory and permission to edit its TOML configuration.
- An archive viewer capable of opening a ZIP without extracting it.
The example server configuration uses ResourceFolder = "Resources". If you changed that setting, use the corresponding resource-folder location; the required Client subdirectory is relative to the configured resource folder, not necessarily the default path.
How BeamMP finds a custom map
BeamMP does not use the downloaded filename as the map identifier. It reads the archive’s internal levels directory and loads the level folder named in the Map setting. That setting must identify the level’s info.json file.

A typical archive has a structure similar to this:

└── ...For that structure, the correct configuration value is:
Map = "/levels/myawesomedriftmap2021/info.json"The spelling, capitalization and underscores in the level folder must match exactly. The ZIP filename can be different; only the folder below levels matters.

1. Obtain a compatible map ZIP
Use a BeamNG map mod that contains a levels directory and is intended to work with the BeamNG.drive and BeamMP versions on your server. A map that works in a newer game build may fail on an older installation, and a map can also conflict with another server mod even when both work individually.
2. Stop the server before changing files
Shut down BeamMP-Server cleanly before copying or replacing resources. This prevents a file from being changed while the server is reading it and gives you a clear startup log after the installation.
3. Copy the archive to the client resource directory
Place the map archive directly in:
<server working directory>/Resources/Client/Keep the file as a .zip. Do not extract it into a folder, and do not put it inside an extra subdirectory such as Resources/Client/MyMap/. BeamMP’s client resource directory accepts ZIP files and loads them when the server starts.
4. Inspect the ZIP and copy the internal level name
Open the archive with an archive manager while leaving it compressed. Open its levels directory and copy the exact name of the map folder inside it. Do not infer this name from the download title: authors often use a different internal identifier, include underscores, or retain a development suffix.

If the archive contains several unrelated top-level folders, inspect the layout carefully. The value you need is the folder that directly contains the level’s info.json, expressed beneath /levels/.
5. Edit ServerConfig.toml
Open ServerConfig.toml in a plain-text editor. Replace the existing map value with the internal path and retain the leading slash and the /info.json suffix:

Map = "/levels/myawesomedriftmap2021/info.json"Keep the TOML syntax intact: use a quoted string, do not add a ZIP filename, and do not point to a directory. Save the file in the server’s working directory.

6. Start BeamMP-Server and read the startup output
Start the server again. Resource archives are loaded during startup, so a running process will not notice a newly copied or replaced client ZIP until it is restarted. Watch the console or Server.log for errors before inviting players.
7. Join and verify the download
Connect with a client that has the same BeamMP and BeamNG.drive compatibility baseline. BeamMP should send the map to a joining player automatically. If the server and game are on the same computer, use BeamMP Direct Connect to 127.0.0.1 and the port configured for the server to perform a local check first.

Choosing the correct Map value

BeamMP’s maintenance reference gives these examples for stock content: /levels/gridmap_v2/info.json, /levels/italy/info.json, /levels/utah/info.json and /levels/west_coast_usa/info.json. Stock levels are already part of the game installation, whereas a downloaded or edited level must be available to clients through Resources/Client.

A few minutes of inspection avoids most path errors. Check the following in order:
- Confirm the file extension is
.zip, not a folder renamed to look like a ZIP. - Open the archive and locate
levels. - Open the level folder below
levelsand verify thatinfo.jsonis present at that level. - Copy the folder name exactly, preserving every character and underscore.
- Make sure the archive itself, rather than an extracted copy, is directly under
Resources/Client. - Use the resulting path in
ServerConfig.tomland check that it ends in/info.json.
The download filename, screenshots, map title and the name shown on a mod page are not reliable substitutes for the internal folder name.
Testing a map locally before asking others to join
If the correct internal path is unclear, install the map in single-player BeamNG.drive first. Launch the map, open the game’s system console with ~ (or whichever key is assigned to the console), and run:
print(getMissionFilename())The returned mission filename identifies the path BeamNG is using for the loaded level. Use that returned path as the value after Map =, retaining the required quoted TOML syntax. This is particularly useful when a mod archive contains an unexpected folder name or a nested level layout.

A local Direct Connect test also separates server configuration problems from public-network problems. Connect to 127.0.0.1 on the configured port, wait for the resource download, load into the map and drive long enough to confirm that terrain, objects and scripts appear normally.
Troubleshooting a custom map that will not load
The server starts, but the map never appears
- Check that the ZIP is directly inside
Resources/Client, not inside another folder. - Confirm that the archive was not extracted. The client resource directory is intended for ZIP resources.
- Open the archive again and verify that a
levelsdirectory and the referenced level folder exist. - Compare the
Mapvalue character by character with the internal folder name. - Make sure the value ends in
/info.jsonand does not end at the folder level or include the archive filename.
The level name looks right, but the path is still rejected
Use the single-player console command print(getMissionFilename()) described above. The returned path is more authoritative than the download name or a readme example. Copy it without changing its directory names, then restart the server after saving the configuration.
Players receive a join error after the map was added
BeamMP warns that mods can be incompatible with BeamNG, BeamMP or one another. Temporarily remove the new map and any other recently added mods, restart the server, and test the map by itself. If it works alone, add the other resources back one at a time to identify the conflict. Also verify that the clients and server are running compatible game and BeamMP versions.
The server behaves as though the old map is still installed
Client ZIP resources are read at server startup. Stop and restart BeamMP-Server after adding, replacing or removing a map archive, then inspect the new startup output and Server.log. Editing the ZIP or TOML while the process remains online does not reload the resource.

First test the same map in single-player BeamNG.drive. A failure there indicates a map or game-version problem rather than a BeamMP transport problem. If single-player works, isolate other server mods, check the exact mission filename, and repeat the local Direct Connect test with only the map installed.

Do not redistribute protected content unless you are authorized to do so. BeamMP documents a protectmod command for restricted mods. When a protected file is used, players must obtain the file from its creator or another authorized source and place it in their launcher resources folder; automatic public delivery is not a substitute for that permission.
Replacing, removing or switching maps
Replacing a map archive
Stop the server, replace the old ZIP in Resources/Client with the new archive, inspect the new archive’s internal level name, update Map if that name changed, and start the server. Treat a replacement as a new compatibility test even when the download filename is unchanged.

Removing a custom map
Stop the server before deleting the ZIP. Change Map to a valid stock level or another custom level that remains installed, then start the server and verify the selected level locally. Leaving a removed level in the configuration produces a path failure because the referenced info.json is no longer available.
Switching between several installed maps
You may keep multiple compatible ZIP archives in Resources/Client, but Map selects one level at a time. To switch, edit only the path to the desired internal info.json, save the TOML file and restart the server so the selection is applied.

Frequently overlooked details
The most common mistake is treating the ZIP filename as the map path. BeamMP follows the level folder inside levels, so a file named awesome_drift_v4.zip can legitimately require a different identifier. The second is extracting the archive: extraction changes the layout BeamMP expects in Resources/Client. The third is forgetting the restart; client resources are loaded at startup, not continuously while the server is running.
Once the archive location, internal folder name and info.json path agree, the installation is complete. Players joining afterward can receive the map through BeamMP’s normal client-resource download process.
