Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) is normally installed by the game that uses it, not through one universal EAC download. Start the game and accept its Windows installation prompt. If that does not work, use the EAC installer included in that game’s files and run it with the game’s own product ID.
This guide covers Steam, Epic Games Launcher, and PC Game Pass, including EOS installations that use EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe, Command Prompt and PowerShell commands, Fortnite’s special procedure, reinstall steps, and fixes for common EAC errors.
Before you install: EAC is game-specific
Do not search for one standalone Easy Anti-Cheat installer and expect it to work for every game. Supported games normally include their own EAC installer and product ID. The ID identifies the specific game, so an ID copied from a different guide may fail or install the wrong product configuration.
Most current Epic Online Services (EOS) games use an executable named EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe. Older games or legacy instructions may refer to EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe, but you should use the executable supplied with your game rather than substituting one from another installation. Method 1: Install EAC automatically by launching the game
- Close the game and its launcher if they are currently open.
- Launch the game normally.
- When Windows displays the Easy Anti-Cheat installation prompt, select Yes.
- Wait for the installation to finish, then launch the game again if necessary.
For Fortnite, Epic’s documented procedure is simply to launch Fortnite and accept the EAC prompt. If the installation completes successfully, no additional manual steps are required.
If no prompt appears, the game still reports that EAC is missing, or the installer silently fails, continue with the manual procedure below.
Find the EAC installer included with your game
First close the EAC launcher. If you are unsure whether it is still running, restart Windows before manually installing EAC. The exact folder varies with the game, drive, and launcher, but it is commonly inside an InstallersEasyAntiCheat or EasyAntiCheat_EOS folder.
Steam
- Open Steam.
- Go to Library.
- Right-click the game and select Manage → Browse local files.
- Look for
InstallersEasyAntiCheator a similarly named EAC folder.
A current example is:
C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonWildgateInstallersEasyAntiCheatYour Steam library may be on another drive or use a different game folder. In the directory, look for EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe.
Epic Games Launcher
- Open the Epic Games Launcher.
- Open Library.
- Right-click the game and select Manage.
- Click the Folder icon beside Uninstall.
- Open the game’s
InstallersEasyAntiCheatfolder, if present.
For Fortnite’s default EOS installation, Epic documents this location:
C:Program Files (x86)EasyAntiCheat_EOSPC Game Pass
- Open the Xbox app or Windows installation interface used to manage the game.
- Right-click the game and select Manage.
- Open Files and select Browse.
- Open the game folder and locate its EAC installer.
Method 2: Install EAC from an elevated Command Prompt
This is the general manual method for EOS games. You need both the correct installer and the correct product ID for the game. Do not reuse the example ID unless you are installing that exact game.
1. Open Command Prompt as administrator
- Press the Windows key and type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes when Windows asks for permission.
2. Change to the installer directory
Use /d so Command Prompt changes drives as well as folders:
cd /d "<path-to-the-EasyAntiCheat-folder>"For the documented Wildgate example:
cd /d "C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonWildgateInstallersEasyAntiCheat"3. Run the installer with the game’s product ID
EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe install <product-id>The documented Wildgate command is:
EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe install 66d8f537f1aa4636985ff868d51651ebThe product ID in that command is specific to Wildgate. Your game’s support documentation or included files must provide the appropriate ID.

4. Check whether the command succeeded
EAC may install without displaying a success message or any other console output. Immediately run:

echo %ERRORLEVEL%0means the installation operation succeeded.- Any other value means it failed.
After a successful install, launch the game from its normal launcher. If the game still reports that EAC is missing, verify the files and repeat the procedure with the game’s confirmed product ID.
PowerShell equivalent
If you opened PowerShell in the installer directory, prefix the executable with ./ in PowerShell syntax:
./EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe install <product-id>For example, the following uses a product ID documented for Vermintide 2:
./EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe install e020ce70c5b74c38805c6f3f910bac22Use that example only for the game it belongs to. Product IDs are not interchangeable.
Fortnite: manual EAC installation
Fortnite’s EOS installer has a documented shortcut-based procedure for Windows 10 and Windows 11. This is separate from the general Command Prompt method above.
- Locate
EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe, normally atC:Program Files (x86)EasyAntiCheat_EOS. - Right-click the executable and select Create shortcut.
- Do not drag the executable directly to the desktop. Epic warns that doing so can cause installation problems.
- On Windows 11, use Show more options first, then choose Create Shortcut. If Windows asks whether to place the shortcut on the desktop, select Yes.
- Right-click the new shortcut and select Properties. On Windows 11, you may need to select Show more options first.
- In the Target box, leave the executable path intact and append
install prod-fnafter the closing quotation mark.
The target should look like this:
"C:Program Files (x86)EasyAntiCheat_EOSEasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe" install prod-fnClick Apply, select OK, and double-click the shortcut. No window may appear; Epic says EAC can install in the background. Start the Epic Games Launcher and launch Fortnite.
Be careful when editing the Target field: the argument must be outside the closing quotation mark. The executable path remains quoted, followed by a space and install prod-fn.

If EAC files or its service are damaged, uninstalling and reinstalling the game-specific EAC configuration can help.
Using PowerShell
From the directory containing the game’s EOS installer, run the uninstall command with that game’s product ID, then run the install command:

./EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe install e020ce70c5b74c38805c6f3f910bac22Some publishers also instruct users to delete the game’s EAC Certificates directory before reinstalling. Treat that as a game-specific recovery step, not a universal instruction: delete it only when the game publisher’s support procedure explicitly recommends it.
Verify the game files afterward
After reinstalling EAC, verify the game files through the launcher:

Fix common EAC errors
“Easy Anti-Cheat is not installed” or errors 9009, 10009, and EEAC0008
These errors indicate that the game cannot find or use its EAC installation. Start with the least destructive fix:

- Verify the game files in Steam, Epic Games Launcher, or PC Game Pass.
- Locate the EAC installer included with that game.
- Run it from an administrator Command Prompt or PowerShell window.
- Use the correct product ID for that game.
- Check
%ERRORLEVEL%in Command Prompt;0indicates success. - Restart Windows and launch the game again.

Error 20006: “Cannot Create Service (StartService Failed: 1053)”
This usually points to security software blocking EAC from creating or starting its service. Confirm that you used an elevated prompt, then check your antivirus or security product. The cited publisher support documentation specifically lists ByteFence, Reason Core Security, and Webroot SecureAnywhere as known culprits.

Prefer adding an approved game or EAC exception according to the security vendor’s instructions rather than leaving protection disabled.
Error 30005: “CreateFile Failed with 32”
Error 30005 means another process has a file or EAC operation locked. Antivirus and other security tools are common causes. Restart Windows, close unnecessary overlays and background utilities, and test again. If the problem persists, use the game publisher’s security-software troubleshooting procedure.
“Copy Failed With 32”
This also indicates that another program is blocking EAC. A documented diagnostic is a selective startup:
- Press the Windows key and type
msconfig. - Open System Configuration.
- On the General tab, select Selective startup.
- Deselect Load startup items.
- Restart Windows and test the game.
If the game works after the selective startup, re-enable startup items in groups to identify the conflicting program. Restore your normal startup configuration after testing.

Check the EAC service
Some publisher troubleshooting procedures recommend checking the Windows service:
- Press
Win + R, typeservices.msc, and press Enter. - Locate Easy Anti-Cheat.
- Open its properties.
- Set Startup type to Manual.
- Apply the change and restart Windows.
The exact service behavior can vary by game and EAC version, so do not force it to run continuously or change other service settings unless the game publisher tells you to.
Error 23
Error 23 can be associated with damaged or missing DirectX components, graphics drivers, Windows updates, or Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables. Work through these repairs:
If Error 23 points to a missing or outdated GPU driver, Outbyte Driver Updater is an optional way to check the Windows driver before using the GPU manufacturer’s clean-install procedure.
- Install all available Windows updates.
- Perform a clean installation of the current graphics driver for your GPU.
- Repair or reinstall the Visual C++ 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022 Redistributables as directed by the game publisher.
- Verify the game files and reinstall EAC afterward if necessary.
“Game Security Violation Detected (#0000000D) [LightingService.exe]”
LightingService.exe is associated with ASUS Aura Sync. The referenced support procedure recommends disabling ASUS Aura Sync through Windows Task Manager before launching the game. Other RGB utilities, including RGB Fusion and similar controller software, may also conflict with EAC.
Close the RGB utility and its background processes, restart the game, and then update or reconfigure the utility if you need it running. Avoid terminating unfamiliar processes unless you have verified their names and publisher.
“Forbidden Windows Kernel Modification Detected”
The cited publisher documentation associates this message with Windows Insider builds. Its older recovery path is:
Start → Settings → Update & Security → Windows Insider Programme → Stop Insider Preview Builds → Roll me back to the last Windows release → Confirm → Restart Now.
Those labels come from an older Windows interface and may not match current Windows 11. Look for the current Windows Insider settings and the option to stop preview builds or return to a supported stable release. Do not assume every kernel-related warning is caused by Insider builds; custom drivers, security software, and low-level system utilities can also matter.
“Kernel Patch Protection Disabled”
This warning may indicate disabled Windows kernel protection, manual kernel modification, or a rootkit. Restart Windows first. If the message returns, investigate recently installed low-level software and scan for malware. Revert deliberate kernel changes only if you understand exactly what changed. A persistent rootkit or damaged Windows installation may require professional repair or a Windows reinstall.

Untrusted system DLL, including wldap32.dll
EAC may reject a corrupted or untrusted system DLL. The documented recovery sequence includes installing Windows updates, removing the game’s EAC Certificates directory, and reinstalling EAC. Because deleting the Certificates directory is not a universal step, follow the instructions for the affected game rather than applying it blindly to every installation.
Windows version considerations
Windows 10 reached end of support on October 14, 2025. Microsoft no longer provides free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10 after that date. If your game or EAC issue involves missing system components, an unsupported Windows installation can make troubleshooting harder. Where the hardware and game requirements allow it, use a supported Windows release and keep Windows fully updated.
For supported desktop applications, Microsoft’s current troubleshooting path may be:
Start → Settings → Apps → Installed apps → select the app → Advanced options → Repair. If Repair does not resolve the issue, select Reset. Microsoft notes that not all desktop applications provide these controls, and the options may not appear for a game or EAC component.
A practical install and repair checklist
- Launch the game and accept the EAC installation prompt.
- If that fails, close the game and EAC launcher, then restart Windows.
- Open the game’s files through its launcher.
- Use the EAC installer shipped with that game, normally
EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exefor EOS games. - Find the product ID for that exact game.
- Run the install command from an administrator Command Prompt or the appropriate PowerShell window.
- Check
%ERRORLEVEL%in Command Prompt. - Verify the game files.
- If installation is blocked, investigate antivirus, security tools, startup programs, RGB utilities, overlays, and other low-level software.
- Re-enable any temporarily disabled security protection and restore normal startup settings after testing.
The most important details are the installer’s location, the executable name, and the product ID. A copied command with the wrong game ID can look correct while still failing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I download one Easy Anti-Cheat installer for all my games?
No. Current supported procedures generally use the EAC installer included with each game, together with that game’s product ID. EOS games commonly include EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe.

The installer may run silently. In an administrator Command Prompt, run echo %ERRORLEVEL% immediately afterward. A result of 0 means the installation operation succeeded; any other result indicates failure.
Where is EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe located?
It is usually in the game’s InstallersEasyAntiCheat or EasyAntiCheat_EOS folder. Use Steam’s Manage → Browse local files, Epic’s Manage → Folder icon, or PC Game Pass’s Manage → Files → Browse to find it.
Can I use a product ID from another EAC guide?
No. Product IDs are game-specific. Fortnite uses the documented argument prod-fn, while other games use different IDs.
Should I drag the EAC executable to my desktop for Fortnite?
No. Epic recommends right-clicking EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe and choosing Create Shortcut. Dragging the executable directly to the desktop can cause installation problems.
The Bottom Line
Install EAC through the game first. If that fails, use the installer supplied in that game’s files, run it as administrator, and provide the product ID belonging to that exact game.
