Fortnite’s PC version requires Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC). First launch Fortnite and approve the Windows installation prompt. If no prompt appears, Epic Games provides a manual install; if Fortnite specifically says EAC is not installed, use the separate repair procedure.
Install EAC from Fortnite’s Windows prompt
- Close the EAC launcher if it is open. If you are unsure whether it is running, restart your PC.
- Launch Fortnite and select Yes when Windows asks to install Easy Anti-Cheat.
- When installation completes, try launching the game. Epic says no further steps are needed if this installation succeeds. See Epic’s Fortnite EAC installation instructions.
If no installation prompt appears
Use Epic’s manual install procedure. The steps below apply to Windows 10 and 11; Windows 11 may show an extra context-menu option. EAC’s setup file is included with Fortnite. If Fortnite is installed outside its default location, find the game’s installation folder first. Epic also lists C:Program Files (x86)EasyAntiCheat_EOS in its default-location instructions.
- Find
EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exein the EAC folder. - Create a shortcut for the setup executable using Windows’ context menu. On Windows 11, select Show more options if needed to see the relevant shortcut command. Do not drag the executable icon onto the desktop to make a shortcut; Epic warns this can cause installation issues.
- Open the shortcut’s properties and edit its Target. After the existing executable path, add a space and
install prod-fn. Preserve the path as it appears on your PC, including its quotation marks if present. - Apply the change and run the shortcut. EAC may install without opening a visible window.
- Open Epic Games Launcher and launch Fortnite.
Epic notes that Fortnite may need to be reinstalled on the same drive as Windows if registry or user-permission problems interfere with installation. Follow Epic’s full instructions if you need the exact Windows 10 or 11 context-menu steps.
If Fortnite says “Easy Anti-Cheat is not installed”
For this specific launch error, Epic directs players to run EAC’s repair procedure rather than the manual install command. Follow the steps in Epic’s not-installed error guide.

If EAC still prevents Fortnite from launching
Choose the troubleshooting step that matches the error instead of treating every EAC failure the same way. Epic’s general EAC game-issues guide recommends trying the game-specific instructions, launching the game from Epic Games Launcher, and ensuring Windows is up to date.
For a possible connection or firewall problem
If the issue appears network-related, Epic recommends checking whether EAC’s service endpoints are reachable. A successful response is 200 - HTTP OK. If neither endpoint responds, check whether your firewall or network configuration is blocking access, following Epic’s EAC connectivity guidance.
