To install Nexus Mods for Ready or Not, use Vortex with the Ready Or Not extension: install Vortex, run the game once, manage it in Vortex, then download and enable mods from Nexus. If a mod calls for manual installation, follow its own instructions; Pak files commonly go in a specific game folder, but other mod types use different locations.
Install Vortex and set up Ready or Not

Install Vortex from Nexus Mods and open it. A free Nexus Mods account is recommended for managing Nexus downloads; Vortex can detect installed games without an account.

Launch Ready or Not at least once, then return to Vortex. This helps Vortex find the game.

In Vortex, open Games, find Ready Or Not, and select Manage. Follow the prompts to install the Ready Or Not Vortex extension, then restart Vortex.

If Vortex asks for the Unreal Engine Mod Installer, select Fix and restart Vortex again. The extension lists it as a requirement.
If Vortex does not detect the game, use its game-detection prompt to select the top-level Ready or Not installation folder.
Download and enable a Nexus mod

Open the mod’s page on Nexus Mods and read its description, requirements, compatibility notes, and installation directions.

If the page offers a mod manager download, choose it to send the file to Vortex. Some authors disable manager downloads for files that cannot be installed through a manager.

In Vortex, install the downloaded mod and enable it. If the mod page specifies a special manual process or location, follow that guidance rather than assuming the manager route applies.
Install a mod manually
Manual installation is useful when a mod requires it or its page does not offer a manager download. For a Pak mod, Nexus Mods’ Ready or Not troubleshooting guide says to unpack the archive and place the extracted .pak file in ReadyOrNotContentPaks, alongside the game’s base Pak files. Check the mod author’s directions first, since a specific mod may require a subfolder or another location.

Pak is not a universal destination. The extension lists these additional paths for supported mod types:

These are extension-supported destinations, not a rule for every mod. Use the mod page’s specified path when it differs.

Neither route is established as best for every mod. The mod page’s download options and instructions determine which one is appropriate.

Fix mods that do not appear or cause problems
Check Vortex deployment
If a downloaded mod is not active, confirm it is enabled and deployed in Vortex. The troubleshooting guide recommends checking the game’s mods folder and deploying the mod if its files are missing.
Look for conflicts
Files installed through mod.io can conflict with manual or Vortex-installed files, and the troubleshooting guide notes that mod.io files may reappear after unsubscribing. Custom maps can conflict with AI mods, while other Pak files may override settings. If a problem persists, isolate mods one at a time to identify the conflict.
Recover after a game update
If a game patch breaks modded play, the troubleshooting guide recommends verifying the game files through Steam. Remove mods manually when appropriate rather than casually purging files through Steam, which could put save data at risk. For a specific lobby-crash case, consult the guide’s recovery steps before removing data.

Check mod and extension compatibility
Compatibility depends on the mod, the game version, and the other mods installed. Review each mod’s update information and requirements before installing it. The Ready Or Not extension page lists version 1.2.3, updated September 17, 2025, and its changelog includes Epic Games Store support; that extension metadata does not guarantee that every mod works with every game version or mod combination.
