Roblox Studio is Roblox’s creation and development application. You use it to build environments, add scripts, test gameplay, use templates, and publish experiences. The Roblox Player is the separate application used to join and play experiences, so you do not need to install the Player first to install Studio.

Roblox Studio system requirements
Roblox’s current Studio-specific requirements are:
| Requirement | Minimum listed by Roblox | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 macOS 10.14 |
Windows 11 macOS 14 or later |
| Memory | 3 GB of RAM | 8 GB of RAM |
| Display resolution | Not specified | 1600×900 or higher |
These figures come from Roblox’s Studio setup documentation. The minimum specification is an eligibility threshold, not a promise that every project will run smoothly. Large maps, detailed assets, plugins, and heavily scripted experiences can require substantially more memory and processing power.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Do not confuse Studio requirements with the requirements for the general Roblox application or Player. Roblox’s general computer hardware and operating-system page contains separate information for playing Roblox. For example, it lists macOS 10.13 or later for the general application, while the current Studio page lists macOS 10.14 as Studio’s minimum.
Before you begin
- Use a Windows PC or Mac that meets the requirements above.
- Use a supported web browser. Roblox lists Chrome, Firefox, and Edge for its Windows website, and Chrome, Firefox, and Safari for its Mac website.
- Have access to a Roblox account. The same account can be used for playing and creating.
- Close any running Roblox or Studio windows before installing or updating.
- Make sure you have permission to install applications on the computer, particularly on a school or work device.
If you need an account, create one through Roblox’s official website. Never give your password to another person or to a supposed “account unlock” tool. Roblox’s account-safety guidance says not to share passwords and warns that Roblox employees will not ask for them; see Roblox’s account creation and safety guidance.
How to install Roblox Studio
1. Open Roblox’s official creation page
Go to one of these first-party addresses:
Check the address bar before downloading. The page should be on roblox.com or create.roblox.com. The roblox.com/create address currently redirects to the Creator Hub landing page, but Roblox can change its page layout and labels.
2. Choose the Studio download option
Select Download Studio if that button is visible. Depending on the current Creator Hub layout or the route you used, you may first see Start Creating. Select that option and then choose Download Studio in the resulting pop-up or page.

3. Open the downloaded installer
Find the file in your browser’s download history or in the computer’s Downloads folder. The official Studio installer names are:
- Windows:
RobloxStudio.exe - Mac:
RobloxStudio.dmg
Double-click the appropriate file. Windows may ask whether you want to allow the installer to make changes. Confirm that the file came from Roblox and review the publisher information before accepting. On macOS, opening the DMG normally mounts a disk image and displays the application or installation layout.

4. Finish the installation and launch Studio
Follow the installer’s on-screen instructions. Roblox says that a confirmation pop-up appears after installation with a Launch Studio button. Select it.
Afterward, you can normally start Studio from the Windows Start menu or desktop shortcut, or from the Mac Applications folder or Dock.
5. Sign in with your Roblox account
When Studio opens, sign in with the Roblox account that should own or access your projects. If a browser-based verification or security challenge appears, complete it through Roblox’s official website. Do not use a third-party login page or give your password to anyone.
6. Test the installation with a template
Installation is complete when Studio opens its landing screen and accepts your login. To confirm that it works beyond the shortcut, open a simple template such as Baseplate. Roblox says that most templates are available from Studio’s landing page; its template documentation explains the available starting points.
If the template opens in the editor, the basic installation, sign-in, and project-loading process are working.

Current Studio documentation lists Windows 10 as the minimum supported operating system. Do not rely on older tutorials that describe Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 as current Studio requirements; Roblox has ended current Studio support for those older Windows versions.
For advanced troubleshooting only, Roblox documents the installed Studio executable in a path similar to:

Most users should not launch files from this version folder manually. Use the Start menu or normal shortcut unless Roblox Support specifically asks you to investigate the installation directory.

Do you need Roblox Player before Studio?
No. Studio and the Roblox Player are different applications. Clicking Play on a Roblox experience installs or launches the Player, while creating an experience uses Studio. Roblox’s installation and play instructions describe these as separate workflows.
Installing the Player first does not provide a required prerequisite for Studio. Go directly to the Creator Hub or Studio setup page instead.
Alternative: install Studio by editing an existing experience
If you already have an experience, Roblox Support documents another installation route:
- Sign in to the Roblox website.
- Open one of your experiences.
- Open the experience menu in the upper-right corner.
- Select Edit.
- Allow Roblox to prompt for Studio installation if it is not already installed.
Studio should open after installation. Treat this as an alternate or fallback route. The direct Creator Hub download is the clearer current method, and website menu labels can change.
Is Roblox Studio available on Chromebook, Linux, Android, or iPhone?
Roblox’s official Studio documentation currently lists Windows and Mac computers. It does not provide an official Studio installer for Android, iPhone, iPad, Linux, or ChromeOS.
- Chromebook: There is no official ChromeOS Studio installer listed by Roblox.
- Linux: There is no official Linux Studio installer listed by Roblox.
- Android and iPhone: Mobile devices can be used to play Roblox, but Roblox does not list a mobile Studio application.
- iPad: Roblox does not list an official iPad Studio application.
Community compatibility layers, unofficial launchers, remote-desktop arrangements, and files advertised as “Studio APKs” are not equivalent to a Roblox-supported installation method. For a reliable, supported setup, use a Windows or Mac computer that meets the current requirements.

Roblox Studio installed but will not open: troubleshooting
Start with the least disruptive fix and test Studio after each step. Roblox’s general desktop troubleshooting and Studio troubleshooting guidance covers many of these causes.
| Symptom | First actions |
|---|---|
| The download button does nothing | Check the browser’s download history and Downloads folder. Check whether a pop-up or download was blocked. Try a supported browser, reopen the official Studio setup page, and restart the computer before trying again. |
| No installer file appeared | Look for RobloxStudio.exe on Windows or RobloxStudio.dmg on Mac. Confirm that the browser did not silently block the download. |
| The installer freezes | Close Roblox and Studio, restart the computer, and run the installer again. Roblox recommends closing programs before installation or updates. |
| The installation keeps looping | Reboot, clear relevant temporary browser files, review firewall and security permissions, and reinstall from the official Roblox site if necessary. |
| Firewall or antivirus blocks Studio | Identify the security program blocking Roblox and add Roblox to its allowed-app or program-permissions list. Do not leave antivirus or firewall protection disabled; restore protection after changing the permission. |
| Studio opens but login fails | Sign in to Roblox through a supported browser first, complete any verification challenge, then close and reopen Studio. Confirm that you are using the intended account. |
| A school or work network blocks Studio | Ask the network administrator to review Roblox access, domains, proxy rules, and outbound traffic. A shared network may also trigger login limits. |
| An old installation appears corrupted | Uninstall Roblox or Studio, remove residual Roblox files as described below, restart, and reinstall from Roblox’s official page. |
Firewall, antivirus, and router permissions
Do not treat turning off security software as the fix. Roblox’s firewall and router guidance recommends identifying what is blocking Roblox and adding it to the allowed list or program permissions.
On a managed school or workplace network, the administrator may need to review Roblox’s current network requirements. Roblox’s education-network troubleshooting page lists HTTP/HTTPS access to domains including:

The same Roblox guidance says experience sessions use UDP ports 49152–65535 and that experience launching does not support proxies. These details are for network administrators, not normal home installation. Domains and policies can change, so administrators should verify the current Roblox support page rather than treating this list as permanent.
When Studio cannot log in on a shared network
Roblox’s education-network guidance says a shared network can produce a message such as “Too many logins were attempted from this network.” Try this sequence:
- Log in to Roblox in a supported web browser.
- Complete any CAPTCHA, email, two-step, or other security verification Roblox requests.
- Close and reopen Studio.
- Check that Studio is using the intended Roblox account.
- If possible, try a different trusted network or ask the network administrator to review Roblox access.
Do not disable account security or use a third-party login tool to bypass the message.

Windows
Use this process when a reboot, browser cleanup, and permission check have not fixed a corrupted installation:
- Back up any local project files ending in
.rbxlor.rbxlx. - Uninstall Roblox through Windows’ installed-apps or program-removal controls.
- If the problem continues, remove the local Roblox folder:
C:Users<Windows username>AppDataLocalRoblox
- Restart Windows.
- Download Studio again from the official Creator Hub.
Roblox says that deleting this local folder should not remove places saved elsewhere, but local files are different from cloud-published experiences. Back up local .rbxl and .rbxlx files before deleting folders so that an unsaved or locally stored project is not lost. Roblox’s uninstall instructions and reinstallation guidance provide the official recovery sequence.
Mac
- Save or back up any local project files.
- Force-quit Roblox and Roblox Studio if either is running.
- Open Finder and select Applications.
- Move the Roblox application to the Trash.
- Empty the Trash.
- Download and install Studio again from Roblox.
For a persistent Mac problem, Roblox’s Mac troubleshooting guidance includes removing Roblox-related logs from:
~/Library/Logs/Roblox/
That is an advanced step. Remove only Roblox-related files, and do not delete unrelated items from your Library folders.
Keep Studio updated
Roblox says experiences use the latest Roblox engine and recommends keeping Studio current for current APIs and features. If Studio is out of date, an Update button appears in the upper-right corner. Selecting it may require you to save and close the open place before Studio updates and restarts.
- Save local work before selecting Update.
- Use the in-app update prompt or the current official setup page.
- Do not search for old version-specific installers on unofficial archives.
- An update prompt does not normally mean that you must manually remove and reinstall the entire application.
Frequently asked questions
