Install Blastcore by selecting one current Blastcore Edited package, installing its required files on the clients and (if your server policy requires it) the server, adding CBA_A3, placing every supplied .bikey file in the server’s keys folder, and restarting. Then verify the load in the Arma 3 RPT log. Clients must use the same Blastcore build and dependency set as the server configuration.

Blastcore is primarily a visual-effects mod, so it may work client-side without being loaded by the dedicated server. Whether you put it in the server’s required-mod list is an operational decision: use the server’s mod policy and the current instructions for your hosting panel. The steps below cover both arrangements and identify the points that commonly prevent a successful connection.

Choose the correct Blastcore package first
Several similarly named Workshop packages exist, and they are not interchangeable. Decide which one you will standardize on before copying files or editing launch parameters. The following status reflects Workshop and documentation information available on 14 October 2026; compatibility with every current Arma 3 build is not independently confirmed, so check the package’s current listing when you install.

A Nitrado setup guide describes the Paladin standalone build as the up-to-date version and says the original author stopped updating the mod. That information is useful for choosing a starting point, but it is based on a documentation listing rather than a guarantee for your 2026 game build. If the Workshop page now names a newer maintained fork or lists a changed dependency, follow that current listing instead.

Why CBA_A3 is normally part of the plan
The Paladin listing says it has no dependencies, yet Blastcore-family installation guidance and a Bohemia Interactive forum discussion identify CBA_A3 as required on both server and client for the usual setup. Treat CBA_A3 as a required component unless the exact current package documentation explicitly says otherwise. A missing CBA component can produce a load error even when the Blastcore folder itself is present.
Decide whether Blastcore belongs on the server
Blastcore changes visual effects such as explosions and smoke. A participant in the Bohemia Interactive forums reports that clients can see the effects without the visual mod running on the dedicated server. That means you have two legitimate deployment patterns:

Do not silently mix these patterns. If the server declares Blastcore as required, a player who has only a client-side visual installation may be rejected. If the server is intended to be client-focused, do not add a cosmetic package to the required server list merely because it exists in the server’s mod directory.
Prepare the server and clients
Confirm access and a clean starting point
- Make a backup of the server’s current launch settings, mod folders, keys folder, and mission configuration.
- Record the Arma 3 build and the exact Workshop item and version you intend to deploy. Current 2026 compatibility is not established by the available listings.
- Use one Blastcore branch only: standalone, or the fix package with its original Blastcore 2 files.
- Ensure every player can install the same Workshop package and
CBA_A3. A client with a different branch or missing dependency is not a valid test of the server installation. - Stop the server before replacing or copying mod files. Restarting after the files and keys are in place prevents a running process from retaining an old load state.
Understand the folders
Arma 3 mod folders are commonly named with an @ prefix, such as @CBA_A3 and the package’s own folder name. Keep each mod’s internal structure intact: the folder should contain its normal addons directory and, when supplied, a keys directory. Do not copy only individual PBO files into an unrelated mod folder, and do not rename folders in a way that breaks a host panel’s automatic mod detection.

Install Blastcore on a panel-based host
Panel labels vary by host and can change over time. Nitrado’s Arma server guide distinguishes an “Additional mods” field, which contains mods clients must have, from an “Additional server mods” field, which contains server-only mods. Other hosts may use different labels, but the distinction is the same.
- Install or import CBA_A3. Use the host’s Workshop/mod installer or upload the complete
@CBA_A3folder to the server’s mod directory. If the panel offers an enable switch, enable the mod rather than merely uploading it. - Install your selected Blastcore branch. For the standalone route, upload the Paladin Blastcore Edited folder. For the fix route, upload the fix package and the original Blastcore 2 files containing
warfx.pbo. Never install both the standalone and fix versions together. - Populate the client-required field. Put
CBA_A3and Blastcore in the panel’s client-required or “Additional mods” field when players must load them to connect. This is the equivalent of the normal-modlist. - Populate the server-only field only for server-only content. A smoke add-on or another host component that clients do not load belongs in “Additional server mods,” the equivalent of
-serverMod. Do not list the same mod in both fields. A forum reply specifically warns against putting one mod in both-modand-serverMod; exact syntax can differ on older or customized panels. - Save the configuration and stop for a key installation. Do not rely on a panel’s mod checkbox to install signature keys automatically. Open each installed mod’s
keysfolder and identify every supplied.bikeyfile. - Copy the keys. Copy the contents of every selected mod’s
keysfolder into the dedicated server’s centralkeysfolder. Copy the files, not the containingkeysdirectories, and keep the original filenames. This includes keys for CBA_A3, Blastcore, and any server-side add-on that supplies one. - Restart the server. Start it only after the mod fields, files, and keys are saved. A full stop/start is safer than a mission restart when you have changed the mod list.
- Read the RPT log. Search the newest log for the names of CBA_A3 and your Blastcore package, as well as messages reporting an addon requirement, signature failure, or missing PBO. A successful connection test should show the expected packages loading without a dependency or signature error.
Install the matching client loadout
- Subscribe to or download the same Blastcore Workshop item selected for the server policy.
- Install
CBA_A3and, for the fix route, the original Blastcore 2 files that providewarfx.pbo. - Enable the same mods in the Arma 3 launcher, in the same branch combination. Do not enable standalone Blastcore alongside the fix version.
- Start the game and join the server. If the server declares the visual mod as required, the launcher must present that package to the server during connection; a folder existing on disk is not enough.
- Test an explosion- or smoke-heavy mission after joining. Compare the RPT log and the in-game result with a client that has the same loadout; differences between clients often indicate a missing or mismatched local package rather than a server failure.
Keys, signatures, and BattlEye errors
Arma 3 uses .bikey files in the server’s keys directory to validate signed content. The key folder is separate from the mod’s addons folder: loading a PBO does not automatically make its signature trusted by the server. Copy the key files for every mod in the server’s loadout, then restart.

When a client receives a signature or key error
- Check that the relevant
.bikeyfile is in the server’s central keys folder, not only inside@Blastcore...or@CBA_A3. - Check that the player is using the same package branch and version. A key can be present while the client still has a different signed build.
- Check for duplicate or stale mod folders. Disable old Blastcore copies in the launcher and remove obsolete server entries from the panel.
- Restart after changing keys. A hot mission restart may not reload the server’s key set.
The Nitrado guide notes that mods without public keys can be handled through server settings and that disabling BattlEye can reduce connection errors. Disabling BattlEye is a security trade-off, not a normal Blastcore fix: keep BattlEye enabled where possible and solve the missing-key or mismatched-signature cause instead.

The RPT log never names Blastcore
- Confirm the mod is in the active client-required or server-only field, not merely uploaded.
- Check the folder level. The path should lead directly to the mod’s normal
addonsdirectory; an extra nested folder created during extraction can make the package invisible. - Confirm that the server was fully restarted after saving the launch configuration.
- Remove duplicate Blastcore entries and test with one selected branch.
The log reports a missing dependency
- Add
CBA_A3to the same side of the deployment that requires it and ensure clients also load it. - If you chose the fix version, install the original Blastcore 2 files containing
warfx.pbo. The fix package alone is incomplete. - Read the exact addon name in the RPT log; it may identify a missing PBO or a package that the current Arma 3 build no longer accepts.
Players are rejected even though effects appear locally
- Compare the server’s required-mod list with the client’s active list character for character.
- Make sure a client-only visual installation is not being tested against a server that forces Blastcore as a required mod.
- Copy all relevant
.bikeyfiles and check for BattlEye signature messages.
Effects disappear or conflict with another visual mod
The Blastcore author advises disabling other Blastcore or ArmaFXP-related mods to avoid conflicts. Test with CBA_A3 and one Blastcore branch only, then add unrelated visual mods one at a time. If the effect returns after removing another package, keep the conflicting package disabled rather than adding both Blastcore branches.

Performance drops during explosions
Search-result guidance attributes short performance dips to explosion-heavy scenes. Treat that as an observed possibility rather than a guaranteed benchmark: test your mission, player count, graphics settings, and server hardware. If frame time becomes unacceptable, first remove conflicting effects packages and then consider a client-side-only deployment so players who need performance can disable the visual mod without changing the server’s core loadout.
A repeatable verification checklist
- One selected Blastcore branch is documented for the server.
CBA_A3is installed wherever the chosen setup requires it.- The fix branch has the original Blastcore 2
warfx.pbofiles; the standalone branch is not installed alongside it. - Client-required mods are in the panel’s normal additional-mods field; server-only content is in the additional-server-mods field.
- No mod appears in both the normal
-modlist and-serverMod. - Every supplied
.bikeyfile is copied into the server’s central keys folder. - The server has been fully restarted.
- The RPT log shows CBA_A3 and the selected Blastcore package loading without missing-addon or signature errors.
- A test client uses the matching Workshop package and dependency set.
- Other Blastcore or ArmaFXP-related effects mods are disabled during the first test.
What to do if the package has changed
Workshop listings, host panels, and launch syntax can change independently of the game. If a listing now marks a package removed, incompatible, or dependent on a different CBA_A3 or Blastcore version, stop and revise the loadout rather than forcing old files into a current server. The Murr Edition is already reported as removed and incompatible, and the server-side smoke listing also carries removal/incompatibility notices in the available listing. For any package whose status is unclear, verify that it is currently downloadable, inspect its dependency and key folders, and perform a clean RPT-logged test before opening the server to players.
