Install Chiemsee only after confirming that a usable, current package is available. A working server needs the Chiemsee terrain files, the SpawnerBubaku dependency, matching client versions, copied signature keys, a correctly ordered -mod= parameter, and the dayzoffline.chiemsee mission. Steam currently displays removal and incompatibility notices for the public Workshop item, so availability is the first check—not a step to skip.

Check whether Chiemsee is installable before touching the server
Chiemsee is a DayZ terrain mod, not a mission that can be enabled by changing one setting. Its public Steam Workshop entry is identified by Workshop ID 1580589252. The listing describes a 10,240 × 10,240 metre map, release 4.1V, posted on 2 December 2018 and updated on 24 December 2024. At the time covered by this guide, Steam showed both messages: “This item has been removed from the community because it violates Steam Community & Content Guidelines” and “This item is incompatible with DayZ.”

Those notices make public availability unresolved. They do not prove that every copy of the map is unusable, but they do mean a normal Workshop subscription or automated download may fail. Confirm that your host or maintainer has a legitimate, current Chiemsee package before scheduling downtime. If the item cannot be downloaded and no supported server-file source is available, stop there rather than building a server around partial files or an old archive.

What a supported installation requires
Prepare the server before downloading anything. A dedicated-server installation requires access to the server files, startup parameters, the server keys directory, profiles, and mpmissions. A managed host must provide a DayZ Mod Manager or an equivalent way to install Workshop content and select a mission.

- A verified Chiemsee package and the matching SpawnerBubaku dependency.
- A complete backup of the server directory, persistence data, and any economy XML files you have edited.
- A clean or vanilla baseline whenever possible. Start with Chiemsee alone, then add other mods one at a time so a conflict can be identified.
- A maintenance window. Stop the server before installing, replacing, or updating Workshop files.
- Clients that can obtain exactly the same current Chiemsee, SpawnerBubaku, and other required mod versions.
Do not overwrite a live installation while the process is running. DayZ may keep files open, and an interrupted Workshop update can leave a mixture of versions that produces connection or signature errors on the next boot.
Install Chiemsee through a hosting panel
This route is appropriate when the provider maintains a working Chiemsee package. Labels differ between panels, but the documented workflow is consistent.

- Open the panel’s Mod Manager. Look under a category such as Community Maps and search for Chiemsee.
- Choose Install. On the documented workflow, the panel installs Chiemsee together with SpawnerBubaku. Check the resulting mod list rather than assuming the dependency was added.
- Allow the panel to finish downloading and deploying files. Do not start the server while the manager still reports an active install or update.
- Select the Chiemsee mission. The mission is
dayzoffline.chiemsee; it is separate from Chernarus mission folders. - Start the server. Initialisation can take several minutes for a large terrain and its economy files.
- Open the console or log viewer if the server does not come online. Capture the first error, not only the final shutdown message, before attempting another reinstall.
A panel button cannot override Steam’s current removal or incompatibility status. If the manager reports that the package is unavailable, repeatedly retrying the install will not repair the source. Ask the provider whether its package is maintained and which Chiemsee and SpawnerBubaku versions it deploys; otherwise use the self-managed procedure only with a verified, lawful file source.
Panel checks after the first start
- The mod list shows both Chiemsee and SpawnerBubaku.
- The selected mission is
dayzoffline.chiemsee, not a Chernarus mission. - The server reaches its normal listening state without a restart loop.
- The log contains no missing-addon, signature, or script-version errors.
- A test client with the same mod versions can connect and spawn on the Chiemsee terrain.
Install Chiemsee on a self-managed DayZ server
Self-managed servers need four pieces to line up: the downloaded Workshop content, readable mod-folder names, valid signature keys, and a startup command that loads dependencies in the right order.
1. Download the Workshop item with SteamCMD
SteamCMD uses the DayZ App ID 221100. The generic command documented for a Windows server is:

steamcmd.exe +force_install_dir "C:DayZServer" +login your_username +workshop_download_item 221100 1580589252 +quitReplace the installation path, account name, and Workshop ID with the values appropriate to your server. Run this command only after verifying that ID 1580589252 is currently downloadable. A successful command should create or update a numeric Workshop-content directory; it does not automatically create the named folder that DayZ’s launch parameter expects.

If a maintainer or host supplies a different current package, follow that package’s documented download method instead of combining files from unrelated releases.
2. Expose numeric Workshop content as named mod folders
DayZ startup parameters refer to mod folders by name, conventionally with an @ prefix. Workshop downloads are stored in numeric directories, so expose the content under names such as @Chiemsee and @SpawnerBubaku. You can copy the downloaded directories or create a junction/symbolic link, provided the server process can read the resulting path.
A typical server layout looks like this:

profilesDo not rename files inside a mod. Rename or link the top-level directory only, and verify that each named folder contains the mod’s normal subdirectories, including its keys directory where supplied.
3. Install the Chiemsee signature keys
Copy every .bikey file from the Chiemsee mod’s keys directory into the dedicated server’s root keys directory. Do the same for SpawnerBubaku and any other server-side mod that supplies keys. Keep the keys from the same release as the files you are loading; an older key can be as invalid as a missing one.

Incorrect keys commonly result in Player kicked: Modified data, “Signature verification failed,” or an immediate rejection during connection. Copying a key from a different map release is not a safe workaround. When updating, refresh the server’s keys at the same time as the mod files and remove obsolete duplicates only when you know no remaining enabled mod uses them.
4. Add the mods to the startup command
Place map content in -mod=, because clients must load a terrain map. Do not put Chiemsee in -servermod=; that parameter is for server-only content and will not deliver a required map to connecting players. Separate entries with semicolons, and put dependencies before the mods that require them.
-mod=@SpawnerBubaku;@ChiemseeThis is the shape of the parameter, not a guarantee that every package uses these exact folder names. Replace the names with the folders that actually exist on your server. If the dependency’s own documentation specifies a different order, follow that requirement. A typo in a folder name is functionally the same as a missing mod.
5. Match the client files
Every player must use the same current Chiemsee and SpawnerBubaku versions as the server, along with matching versions of any additional required mods. A client that has an older Workshop build, a partially updated folder, or a different signature will fail before entering the server. When you change the map or dependency, schedule the client update at the same time and record the release you deployed so players do not guess which copy to use.
Configure the Chiemsee mission and economy
Chiemsee does not use the Chernarus mission directory. The active mission is dayzoffline.chiemsee, and its economy and spawn XML files belong inside that mission folder.

Where the mission goes
Place the mission under the server’s mpmissions directory:
mpmissionsdayzoffline.chiemseeSelect that mission in the server’s Config.cfg using the configuration method provided by your host or DayZ server build. Do not point the server at a Chernarus folder and expect Chiemsee terrain or loot definitions to load; the mission name determines which world and XML set the server starts.

Loot and spawn definitions such as types.xml are stored in the Chiemsee mission. When the server or provider updates the mission, it may create a directory named dayzoffline.chiemsee_UPDATED. Treat that directory as a new version, not as an automatic merge of your customisations.
- Stop the server and back up the existing
dayzoffline.chiemseefolder, persistence data, and every edited XML file. - Compare your current XML files with the corresponding files in
dayzoffline.chiemsee_UPDATED. - Merge or cherry-pick your intentional changes into the updated mission. Preserve valid structural changes from the new mission instead of replacing the entire file with an old copy.
- Rename or select the updated mission only after the merge has been checked for well-formed XML.
- If you have no custom XML edits, the provider documentation says the updated mission can be selected directly in
Config.cfg.
Keep a separate backup of persistence and economy edits. Replacing a mission folder without one can remove adjustments that are difficult to reconstruct and can make it impossible to determine whether a later problem came from the map update or from a lost configuration.

Start with Chiemsee and SpawnerBubaku only. A clean boot gives you a known-good reference for later troubleshooting.

- Start the server and wait several minutes for terrain, scripts, and economy initialisation.
- Open the latest RPT and script logs. Check the beginning of the startup sequence as well as the final lines.
- Confirm that both named mod folders are found and that no dependency is reported missing.
- Confirm that the selected mission is
dayzoffline.chiemsee. - Connect with a client carrying the same mod versions and keys. Verify that the map loads, the player can spawn, and basic loot appears.
- Stop the server if you need to change a file; never edit the active mission or mod directory while the process is writing to it.
Only after this baseline works should you add another mod, restart, and test again. Adding several mods at once removes the information needed to identify a load-order or compatibility conflict.

Update Chiemsee without breaking a live server
- Announce maintenance and stop the server completely.
- Back up the current Chiemsee and SpawnerBubaku folders, the server
keysdirectory, the mission folder, persistence, and custom economy XML. - Refresh the map and dependency through the same Workshop, SteamCMD, or hosting-panel mechanism used for the original installation. Do not mix a panel copy with an unrelated manual archive unless the maintainer explicitly supports that arrangement.
- Replace or merge the mission as described above. Inspect any
dayzoffline.chiemsee_UPDATEDdirectory before selecting it. - Refresh the corresponding
.bikeyfiles in the server’skeysdirectory. - Check the
-mod=list for renamed folders and preserve the dependency-before-map order. - Start the server, inspect the latest logs, and test with a client updated to the same versions before reopening it to everyone.
Do not update only the server. A server that has newer map binaries while players still run the previous Workshop release will produce version or signature failures even if the process itself starts normally.
Troubleshoot the errors that matter most

Use the newest RPT and script logs as your first diagnostic source. The first meaningful error is usually more useful than the last “server stopped” line. If a clean Chiemsee installation works and a later addition fails, the newly added mod or its load order is the primary suspect.
Do not confuse dedicated-server deployment with Offline Mode
The Chiemsee Community Offline Mode README describes local experimentation, not a replacement for a dedicated server. That workflow requires the Chiemsee Workshop download, places DayZCommunityOfflineMode.Chiemsee under the game’s Missions folder, and starts with:
-mission=.-/Missions/DayZCommunityOfflineMode.ChiemseeOffline Mode is useful for exploring or testing locally, but it does not configure a public server’s startup parameters, signature keys, persistence, mission economy, or client synchronization. A dedicated server still needs the installation and mission steps described above.
