The current main file shown on the Wasteland listing is 3.1 GB and was uploaded on 28 May 2026, but the page also contains files for older game generations. Treat the game-build match—not the upload date alone—as the deciding factor.

What you need before downloading
The Wasteland is a total-conversion-style mod setup rather than a single file you can drop anywhere. Its loader, dependencies and game build must agree. Prepare these items first:

- Enough free storage for the download and the extracted files. The current main download is listed at 3.1 GB, and extraction can require additional temporary space.
- Permission to edit the game’s local files.
- A backup of worlds and saves you care about, especially before changing from one overhaul version to another.
- Easy Anti-Cheat disabled for the launch in which you use the mod.
File sizes, dependencies and compatibility can change as new releases appear. Re-check the maintained Wasteland listing immediately before downloading rather than relying on an old installation video or a remembered dependency list.

Choose the release that matches your game build
Do this before opening an archive. Steam can update 7 Days to Die while you are collecting files, and a mod built for one game version may fail on another or create save problems. The Wasteland page contains historical releases, so the newest upload is not automatically the right one.
Check the installed 7 Days to Die version
- Open Steam and locate 7 Days to Die in your library.
- Start the game or inspect the version information shown by the client and launcher. Record the build or branch, including any experimental or beta designation.
- If you use a non-default Steam branch, keep that branch selected while choosing the mod release. Do not compare only the major version number when the Wasteland notes specify a more precise build.
Read the Wasteland file notes
On the Wasteland listing, compare the changelog and requirements for each available file with the build you recorded. Check all of the following before pressing download:

The current main file is listed as uploaded on 28 May 2026. That date identifies the file shown at the time of the cited listing; it does not guarantee compatibility with every later game update.
Download the files from the maintained listing
Use the Wasteland distribution page surfaced by the author and the official 7 Days to Die support material. Download the archive for the matching release, then keep the archive until you have successfully launched a test world. Retaining it makes a clean reinstall possible if extraction or a later update goes wrong.
If the download control is confusing
A support discussion reports that some Nexus prompts can lead to a location that appears unzipped without presenting the actual file download. If that happens, return to the Wasteland file page and use the file’s own download control rather than a prompt that only opens a folder or preview. Confirm that your browser saved an archive and that its size is plausible before extracting it.

Open the correct 7 Days to Die directory
The normal destination is the game’s Mods folder inside the Steam installation. The quickest route avoids guessing the library path.
- In Steam, open your Library.
- Right-click 7 Days to Die.
- Choose Manage, then Browse Local Files.
- In the folder that opens, look for a directory named
Mods. - If no
Modsdirectory exists, create one with that exact capitalization and spelling.
The official installation guidance describes this destination as 7_Days_To_DieMods. Steam may display spaces in the product folder, so use the directory opened by Browse Local Files rather than trying to recreate the path manually.
Extract Wasteland into Mods without an extra folder layer
Open the downloaded archive with an extractor and inspect its top level before copying anything. The mod folder or folders must sit directly inside the game’s Mods directory. A valid installation has ModInfo.xml inside each mod folder, not at an unrelated archive level.
Correct layout
The important relationship is:
7 Days To DieMods[Wasteland mod folder]ModInfo.xmlThe bracketed text represents the actual folder name supplied by the release; do not rename a folder unless the release instructions explicitly tell you to. If the archive contains several mod folders, copy each of those folders directly into Mods.
Incorrect double nesting
A common extraction mistake produces a path like:
7 Days To DieModsThe_WastelandThe_WastelandModInfo.xmlIn that case the game sees an outer container instead of the folder that contains the manifest. Move the inner mod folder up one level so that ModInfo.xml is immediately inside the folder that sits in Mods.

Verify before launching
- Open every folder you copied into
Mods. - Confirm that each required folder contains a file named exactly
ModInfo.xml. - Check that you did not copy the archive itself, a screenshot, or an enclosing folder that contains all the real mod folders.
- Leave the original archive untouched until a test launch succeeds.
Install the dependencies for your exact Wasteland release
Dependencies are release-specific. Do not copy an old checklist into a new installation without checking the selected file’s notes. For the 2.6 line, the Wasteland changelog lists these required components:

Some Wasteland downloads include dependencies, while others may expect you to obtain them separately. Inspect the archive and the requirements section to avoid duplicate copies. If a dependency appears both bundled and separately downloaded, keep only the arrangement recommended by that release’s instructions; two different versions of the same component can create conflicts.
Older Wasteland releases list different dependency versions. The names above document the 2.6 line, not a universal requirement for every historical file.
Disable Easy Anti-Cheat before starting
The Wasteland listing gives an explicit warning: “!!!EAC MUST BE OFF!!!” Easy Anti-Cheat must be disabled for the modded launch. Use the game’s launch choice that starts without EAC, or follow the current launcher prompt that offers the non-EAC option. Do not assume that installing the files is enough; a normal EAC launch can block or ignore the mod.
Because the exact Steam prompt can vary by game update, read the wording carefully and select the option that starts 7 Days to Die without Easy Anti-Cheat. If you accidentally launch with EAC enabled, exit, select the non-EAC option and try again after checking the files.

Set up multiplayer on both sides
The author’s multiplayer instruction is unambiguous: “!!!HAS TO BE INSTALLED ON BOTH SERVERS AND CLIENTS!!!” A server-only installation is not enough, and a client-only installation will not make an unmodified server load Wasteland content.
Dedicated or hosted server
- Install the same compatible Wasteland release on the server’s game installation.
- Install the same release on every player’s client.
- Mirror the dependency set, including compatible versions and any optional components required by the release.
- Start the server and clients with the appropriate non-EAC configuration.
- Test with one player before inviting a full group.

What must match
- The 7 Days to Die game build or branch.
- The Wasteland release.
- Required dependency versions.
- Any bundled or optional component that the server uses to define the world.
- The EAC-disabled launch state.
If a client cannot join, compare the server and client folders side by side rather than reinstalling only one machine.
Protect saves and make a first test launch
Changing overhaul versions can affect worlds and saves. Copy your existing save folders to a separate location before replacing, removing or upgrading Wasteland files. Keep the backup outside the game directory so a reinstall cannot remove it.

- Back up your existing saves and note which Wasteland release created them.
- Recheck the
Modslayout and everyModInfo.xmlfile. - Launch without EAC.
- Create or load a disposable test world first. Check that Wasteland’s expected menu, items or systems appear before opening your important save.
- Exit normally and inspect the result. If the test fails, stop there and troubleshoot instead of converting the main save to a different mod version.
Troubleshoot the most common failures
The mod is not detected at all
- Use Steam’s Manage → Browse Local Files path again and verify that you edited the active installation, not another library or a backup copy.
- Open the folder copied into
Modsand locateModInfo.xml. - Remove one layer of nesting if the file is buried under two folders with the same name.
- Check that Windows did not append an extra extension such as
.xml.txt. - Confirm that the archive was fully extracted and that the folder was not left inside a compressed file.
The game starts, but Wasteland content is missing
First verify that Easy Anti-Cheat was disabled for this launch. Then compare your installed dependencies with the requirements for the exact Wasteland file. A game can reach the main menu while a missing SCore, NPCmod, FullautoLauncher, RandomMainmenuBackground or Quartz component prevents Wasteland systems from appearing. The 2.6 list applies only to that release line; consult the notes for older files.

The game crashes or throws errors after a 7 Days to Die update
Stop changing files and check compatibility. A mod made for one game version may not work on another. Select a Wasteland release whose notes target the new build, or return the game to the branch for which your installed release was made. Restore the save backup before testing a different overhaul version. Do not continue loading a valuable world while the game reports errors.
A multiplayer client cannot join
Compare the server and client installations. Both sides need the same compatible Wasteland release and dependency set, and both must launch without EAC. Check for an extra nested folder on one machine and confirm that each side has the same manifest-bearing mod folders. A server-only install cannot supply the missing client files.
The download page seems to open a folder but not download
Return to the actual file entry on the Wasteland listing and select its download control. The support thread notes that some prompts can lead to an unzipped location without an obvious download option. Verify the browser’s saved file and size before extraction.
Several versions appear compatible
Prefer the release whose changelog directly names your build and whose required dependencies you can reproduce on every machine. Use file size, optional-content inclusion and multiplayer notes as secondary decision points. Do not choose solely by upload date or by the largest archive.
Updating, reverting and removing the mod
Updating safely
- Read the new release notes and confirm the game-build target.
- Back up saves and record the currently working Wasteland and dependency versions.
- Close the game.
- Remove or archive the old Wasteland folders according to the release instructions so obsolete files do not remain beside the new ones.
- Extract the new folders directly into
Mods. - Update dependencies to the versions required by the new release.
- Launch without EAC and test a disposable world before opening an existing save.
Reverting after a failed update
Restore the previously archived mod folders and dependency versions, return 7 Days to Die to the matching game branch if necessary, and restore the save backup if the newer files touched the world. Keeping the old archive until the new release is proven makes this rollback practical.
Removing Wasteland
Exit the game, move the Wasteland folders and its release-specific dependencies out of Mods, then test with a separate world. Do not delete a save created with Wasteland unless you have a backup and are certain it is no longer needed; removing the mod does not convert that save into an unmodded world.
