To install WickedWhims while playing The Sims 4 on Steam, place the extracted WickedWhimsMod folder in your Sims 4 user-data Mods folder, enable custom content and script mods in the game, then restart. The published instructions use the Sims 4 user-data folder; they do not specify a separate Steam installation path.
Install WickedWhims in The Sims 4
- Download the mod from its official source. EA recommends trusted mod sources and notes that it does not pre-screen, endorse, or support individual community mods. See EA’s guidance on mods and The Sims 4.
- Open the downloaded ZIP archive. Find the
WickedWhimsModfolder inside it. Move or copy that folder out of the archive; do not put the ZIP itself in the Mods folder. The creator’s WickedWhims installation manual gives these steps. - Put the folder in the Sims 4 user-data Mods folder:
Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods. TheWickedWhimsModfolder should sit directly insideMods. If the Sims 4 folder or its Mods folder is missing, start and close the game at least once to create the user-data folders. - Allow mods in the game. Launch The Sims 4 and open Game Options > Other. Turn on Enable Custom Content and Mods and Script Mods Allowed, then apply the changes.
- Restart The Sims 4. The setting change takes effect after restarting.
Which folder should Steam players use?
Use the Sims 4 user-data folder shown above, not an assumed folder inside Steam’s game-install directory. The creator’s installation steps identify the user-data Mods folder, and EA’s cited mod guidance does not provide a separate Steam-specific location. If your Documents folder is redirected or stored in a cloud-synced location, use the Sims 4 user-data folder created on your computer rather than guessing a Steam path.
After a Sims 4 update
Check the two mod settings again after a game patch: TURBODRIVER’s WickedWhims installation manual says, “You need to repeat this process after downloading the latest game patch.” The creator also states that patches turn the settings off automatically. A patch can affect whether a particular mod release is compatible, but these installation instructions do not establish compatibility for any specific current game-build and mod-version pairing; check the creator’s current release information before relying on the mod after an update.
