All eight Phantoms and how to recruit them
Use this checklist to distinguish mission-based recruits from item hand-ins. The effects listed are each Phantom’s combat focus.

The roster and base effects are listed in Neoseeker’s Phantom guide. For Atlante, Destructoid’s bonus-mission guide says to defeat Bellerian, then speak to Atlante to start her mission.
Unlock Keshta and the Phantom Abilities system
Keshta is the key early milestone because the mission that recruits her also unlocks the Phantom Abilities system. At The Crevice, speak with Blade Phantom to take on Stormpass’ Phantom of Combat, then defeat Keshta in the mission. The mission and its place in progression are covered by Destructoid and the MapMaster side-mission guide.

Once the system is available, open Phantom Abilities at a Blade Nexus to select a companion. This companion roster is not the same as Phantom Form: the latter is Khazan’s temporary transformation. NEXON says its gauge fills when Khazan defeats enemies, uses Brutal Attacks, or unleashes Spirit skills; while transformed, damage reduces the gauge instead of his health (official game mechanics).
Find the first Ghost Items
The following landmarks point to the initial recruitment items. They are orientation clues, not a full collectible route.

- Ghost Gem for Veronika: In Forgotten Temple, search the room with the Epic Masterless Guardian miniboss.
- Ghost Hammer for Wulfric: In Strange Stench, after the barricade, cut down the webbed corpse above the spider miniboss.
- Ghost Relic for Adelhaide: In Traitor Revealed, cut the rope holding a platform, then search the lowered platform.
- Ghost Hilt for Constantine: In Devoured Village, inspect the elevator shaft and the pipe above the elevator.
These locations come from Selphie1999Gaming’s Phantom guide. Exact locations for all three matching items for each Phantom are not established here, including the initial Ghost Twin Blades and Ghost Shield. For those items, follow the relevant mission replay rather than relying on an unverified room or chest location.
Recruiting a Phantom is different from awakening it
Delivering a Phantom’s named Ghost Item recruits it. To awaken additional passive abilities, find and deliver more Phantom Materials that match that Phantom. Neoseeker notes that the second matching item awakens most item-recruited Phantoms and lists a Ghost Spearhead for Atlante’s awakening. A Quick Guides video on awakening items identifies three matching items for each Phantom, but its description does not provide precise map locations.

If you passed a Ghost Item, PowerPyx’s collectibles guide says missed collectibles can be gathered through mission replay after reaching The Crevice. It also cautions against starting New Game+ after the credits if you still need collectibles. PowerPyx says Ghost Items are not required for trophies, so collecting every awakening item is optional if your goal is simply to recruit the companions.
