Friend requests and party invites are separate
A friend request saves a player as a contact after they accept it. A party invite asks them to join your current group, and they must accept that separately. Becoming friends does not automatically create a party, and you do not need to save someone as a friend before inviting them if you can select them nearby.

Think of these as two different steps toward playing together. The friend connection makes the player available in your Friends List; the party invite is the request to join your current group. If you want to keep someone as a contact for later, send the friend request and wait for acceptance. If the immediate goal is to group up and you can select their character, use the party-invite action. You can do both, but one does not stand in for the other.

The steps below reflect third-party AION 2 guides, not official documentation for the social menus. Labels and menu placement can change with updates, so use the equivalent Friends or social options shown in your live client if the wording differs.

Add a friend by character name
- Open the main menu with Esc or the menu icon.
- Select Manage Friends.
- Find the add-player search field and enter the other character’s name.
- Confirm the friend request.
- Check the requests panel for the outgoing request. The other player must accept it before they appear in your Friends List.
This search-and-request sequence and the exact menu labels are described in a third-party AION 2 Wiki guide. If no result appears, check the spelling and character name, and confirm that you are using the appropriate region and client rules; the available evidence does not establish universal cross-server or cross-faction search behavior.
Name search is the more practical route when the other character is not standing near you. It lets you send a request without first locating the player in the world, but it depends on entering the right character name in the appropriate search field. If a friend uses a different character from the one you expect, ask them to confirm the name they are currently playing before you search. Do not assume a failed search proves that the person cannot be added: spelling, region, client, server, or faction rules may matter, and the current rules are not settled by the cited guides.
After confirming the request, look for it in the requests panel rather than assuming the contact is already active. The recipient has to accept. Until then, the request is pending and the other player should not be expected to appear as an accepted friend in your Friends List. If the player does accept but you still do not see them, recheck the list and the request status in the client before attempting another route. The guide describes the outgoing request and acceptance process, but does not establish all possible status messages or every reason a request might fail.
Add or invite a player who is nearby
- On PC, hold Alt to reveal the cursor, as described by a third-party co-op guide.
- Select the nearby player character. Make sure the selection is on the player, not an enemy, NPC, or the ground.
- Choose the social action to send a friend request or invite the player directly to your party.
- If you sent a friend request, wait for acceptance before expecting the player to appear in your Friends List. If you invited them to the party, wait for them to accept that invite.
Use nearby selection when you can see the character and want to interact immediately. A name search is more practical when the friend is elsewhere. The cited Alt control is specific to the PC instructions in the third-party guide; the guide does not establish an equivalent control for other platforms.
Nearby interaction is useful when both characters are already together, but selection matters: the target needs to be the player character. If the action you open is for an enemy, NPC, or the ground, you have not selected the friend and will not see the intended social options. On PC, the guide says that holding Alt reveals the cursor so you can select a nearby character. Treat that as a guide-reported control, not a universal input for every platform or a guarantee that the menu will look identical in every client version.
Once you have the player selected, decide whether you are saving a contact or grouping immediately. A friend request asks to add them to your Friends List; a party invite asks them to join the active party. If the player accepts one request, do not assume they have accepted the other. When your goal is to play together right away, check for the party acceptance and verify membership in the Party interface.

Either way, the next step depends on what you selected: a friend request needs friend acceptance, while a party invitation needs party acceptance.

Invite someone on your Friends List
- Open Friends management.
- Select the friend whose request has been accepted.
- Choose Invite to Party.
- Wait for the friend to accept.
- Open the Party interface and check that both characters’ names appear.
If the friend does not show in the party, first check whether the invite is still pending or was declined, then send another invite if needed. A Friends List entry confirms a saved contact; it does not confirm party membership.
This is the straightforward route when the player is already an accepted friend: select their entry and use Invite to Party. The invitation is still a request, not an automatic move into your group. Wait for the friend to accept, then confirm the result in the Party interface. Checking the party roster gives you a clearer answer than relying on the Friends List, since the two screens represent different things.
If the friend is listed but not in the party, troubleshoot the invitation rather than sending a new friend request. Check whether the party invitation is awaiting a response or was declined. If it is no longer pending and the friend still wants to join, send another party invite. If the invite is accepted but the player seems absent from the roster, check the Party interface again and use the current client’s available group controls. The third-party instructions establish the basic flow, but do not document every status label or recovery option, so avoid relying on an exact message if your version differs.
When a party member is not in the same place
Party membership does not necessarily move players into the same world instance. A third-party same-instance guide recommends forming the party and using an instance-joining or registration option on the party member when that character is grayed out or absent. Because exact labels and availability may vary, look for the corresponding join or registration action in your current client rather than relying on a fixed menu path.

A player may be in your party but not physically present in the same instance. First confirm that both names appear in the Party interface; then consider whether you are in different instances. The guide describes using a join or registration option on a party member as a possible way to reach the same instance, particularly when the member is shown as grayed out or absent. It does not establish that this option is always available, works in every zone, or has the same label in every update.
For a dungeon or another supported group activity, use that activity’s group interface to enter together. Entering through the activity flow is the more reliable approach when the activity creates a separate run; simply being grouped in the open world does not prove both players have entered the same instance.
A useful sequence is to form the party first, then check the relevant instance or activity options. For ordinary open-world play, look for a current-client option to join or register on the party member if you are not together. For supported instanced content, use the activity’s group interface and follow the entry flow there. Do not assume that walking to the same map location, or seeing a party roster, guarantees that the characters have been placed into the same instance.

What party play does—and does not—do
Third-party co-op guidance describes early story play as comparatively solo-focused. Parties can travel and fight ordinary open-world enemies together, but some story instances or objectives may separate players or may not advance for both characters at once. If the game puts you into separate instances, complete the individual story segment and regroup afterward rather than assuming one player’s progress will count for the other.
This distinction matters if your plan is to progress the main story side by side. Party membership can support shared travel and fighting in the open world, but it is not a promise that every story step will be shared. A story instance may place one player separately, and an objective may not advance both characters together. If that happens, treat it as a limitation of that segment rather than a failed party invite. Each player may need to complete the individual part, then regroup for the next section where the game permits it.
Before setting out, decide whether the goal is simply to explore and fight open-world enemies together or to complete a specific story step. If it is a story step, be prepared for the game to separate you or track progress individually. If you are separated, finish the segment on each character and regroup after. That is more reliable than assuming the party roster means the quest state, instance, or progress is identical for everyone.
Supported group activities are a different case. Official AION 2 materials describe five-player Expedition content; the official Steam listing advertises five-player and ten-player dungeon formats, and the official AION 2 site identifies Krao Cave as a dungeon for up to five players. These published formats establish that the game offers group content, but they do not confirm the current social-menu steps or guarantee that every activity supports every party configuration. Check the activity menu in your live client.
The published five-player Expedition and dungeon formats, the listed ten-player dungeon format, and the five-player capacity stated for Krao Cave are useful signs that AION 2 includes organized multiplayer content. They are activity-format facts, not proof of the maximum size of an ordinary party or a description of how every activity is entered. Use the current activity interface to see which group content is open to you and how it handles group entry. A party invite alone does not substitute for registering or entering through an activity’s own flow.

Finding a group for an activity
A third-party social guide reports Party Finder as an option for filling groups for supported activities. Official product materials confirm multiplayer formats, but the available official information does not verify Party Finder’s current interface or which activities qualify. Look in the relevant activity menu and follow the options shown there.
Party Finder is best treated as a reported route to filling a group, not as a guaranteed menu path for every activity. If you and your friends need more players, look in the activity interface for group-finding options and check which activities are eligible in your live client. The official descriptions of multiplayer formats establish that the game offers group content; they do not settle the current Party Finder interface, its requirements, or whether a specific activity can be listed there.

Inviting across servers or factions
Do not assume a friend request or party invite will work across every server and faction combination. A third-party guide claims cross-server friend connections, but community reports show conflicting experiences, and no official region-specific instructions settle the current rules. A story objective that differs between characters may be an individual-progress limitation. The specific menu wording can change, so use the equivalent controls in the live client.
