Install the BeamMP launcher, start BeamNG.drive from that launcher, open More… → Multiplayer, then either choose a server and click Connect or use Direct Connect with an IP address and port. Public servers appear in the in-game list; private, LAN, same-PC and some unlisted servers require the exact address supplied by the host.

What you need before joining
BeamMP multiplayer is an add-on route into BeamNG.drive, not a separate game client. You need BeamNG.drive installed, the BeamMP launcher, a working internet or local network connection, and enough time for the selected map and vehicles to load.

- BeamMP launcher: Download it from beammp.com by selecting Download Now, then run
BeamMP_Installer.exe. Use the BeamMP launcher icon after installation. - BeamNG.drive: Start the game through the BeamMP launcher rather than launching the normal game shortcut first.
- Network access: Public servers need an internet connection. A same-PC or home-LAN server can work without internet access, provided the local firewall and address are correct.
- Storage and memory: Your game installation must have room for the base game, BeamNG.drive content and any server maps, vehicles or other resources that download.
BeamMP’s published minimum figures are for running a server, not for the computer used only to join one. The server requirements list at least 50+ MiB of usable RAM, a CPU above 1 GHz (preferably multicore), no dedicated GPU, 10 MiB plus mods and plugins for storage, and 5–10 Mb/s upload bandwidth. Those figures do not describe BeamNG.drive’s own player-PC requirements.
Install and start BeamMP
- Open beammp.com and click Download Now.
- Run
BeamMP_Installer.exeand complete the installer. - Launch BeamMP with the new launcher icon.
- Let the launcher start BeamNG.drive. Starting BeamNG.drive separately can leave the multiplayer integration unavailable.
- In BeamNG.drive, open the mod manager and verify that
multiplayerbeammpis enabled. - Choose More… → Multiplayer from the game interface.
If the multiplayer entry is missing, return to the launcher, confirm that the mod is enabled, and start the game from BeamMP again. The launcher is the hand-off that loads BeamMP’s multiplayer components.

Join a public server from the in-game list
- Open More… → Multiplayer.
- Wait for the server list to populate.
- Select a server whose map, player count and description suit you.
- Click Connect. The official getting-started instructions summarize this step as: “Select any server you like, and press
Connect. Enjoy!” - When prompted, log in or continue as a guest if that server permits guest access.
The list is for servers that are publicly discoverable. It is not a complete directory of every private or unlisted server. BeamMP also provides a browser-based server list on its official site, which is useful when you want to inspect available servers before opening the game.
If the server you expect is not listed
Open the list’s search and filtering controls and remove restrictive settings. In particular, set Map to Any. A server can be online but hidden by a map, region or other filter that remains active from an earlier search. Refresh the list after changing the filters.
Join with Direct Connect
Direct Connect is the method for a private server, an unlisted public server, a home-LAN server, a VPS, or a server running on the same computer. You need the host’s IP address and configured port; a server name alone is not sufficient.
- Open More… → Multiplayer.
- Select Direct Connect.
- Enter the address in the format requested by the dialog, using the host’s IP and port.
- Submit the connection and wait for authentication and content loading.

Do not substitute 127.0.0.1 when the server is on another computer: that address always means “this computer.” Likewise, a LAN address normally cannot be used by someone outside the host’s home network.
Private servers: what the host has to configure
Joining a private server is straightforward once the host has made it reachable. Ask for the complete IP-and-port pair, whether guests are allowed, and whether the server uses a password or private resources.

For a self-hosted server exposed beyond the host’s LAN, BeamMP’s FAQ says to forward port 30814, or the port selected in the server configuration, for both TCP and UDP. The host must also allow BeamMP through the operating system firewall for incoming and outgoing traffic. Forwarding only TCP or only UDP can leave the server unreachable or cause an apparently successful connection to fail during setup.
- Confirm the server is actually running before testing from another device.
- Forward the exact configured port to the computer that runs the BeamMP server.
- Create firewall allowances for both inbound and outbound BeamMP traffic.
- Do not test through a VPN while diagnosing reachability; the official FAQ advises avoiding VPNs for this setup.
A same-PC connection does not require router port forwarding. A LAN connection normally needs no internet-facing forwarding, but it still depends on the correct private address and local firewall permissions.

CGNAT and mobile connections
Some internet providers place customers behind carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT). In that arrangement, the customer does not control a unique public IPv4 address, so ordinary router port forwarding cannot make a home server reachable from the internet. Mobile 4G and 5G connections generally cannot be port-forwarded either. If the host is behind CGNAT or on a mobile connection, use a server arrangement that supplies a reachable public endpoint or keep connections to the same LAN; changing BeamMP client settings will not remove the provider-side restriction.
Guest access, accounts and protected content
At the multiplayer login prompt, log in when the server requires an account, or choose guest play when the server allows guests. Guest availability is controlled by each server, so a guest option appearing on one server does not imply that every server accepts it.
After the connection is accepted, BeamMP may download server-provided maps, vehicles and other resources automatically. A large map with several vehicle packs can take substantially longer than a small default map. Keep the launcher open and allow the download and loading process to finish before treating a slow connection as a failure.
Some resources are protected and are not distributed automatically. Obtain protected mods from the creator or another authorized source, then place them in the launcher’s resources folder as directed by the server administrator. Do not bypass a protection system or use an unapproved copy; a server can reject clients that do not have the expected resource.

Fix “Connection Failed” and related errors
The server is missing from the list
- Open the list filters.
- Disable restrictive search options.
- Set Map to Any.
- Refresh the list and check the server’s status again.
If the host gave you an address, skip the list and use Direct Connect; an unlisted server is not necessarily offline.
Errors 10038, 10060 or 10061
BeamMP’s FAQ associates error codes 10038, 10060 and 10061 with no server answering at the specified IP and/or port. These are reachability errors, so recheck the address, configured port, server process, port forwarding and firewall rules rather than repeatedly reinstalling the client.

- For a same-PC server, verify that the server is running and that you used
127.0.0.1with its configured port. - For a LAN server, replace a public address with the host computer’s current private LAN IP.
- For an internet server, confirm that the host forwarded the correct port for both TCP and UDP.
- Ask the host to confirm the server remains running while you test.
- Remove VPN routing during diagnosis.
- Check whether CGNAT or a mobile provider prevents inbound connections.
The connection starts but loading takes a long time
Large maps and multiple vehicles require more data and processing than a small server. Wait for resource downloads and map loading to complete. If the server uses protected mods, obtain the authorized files and put them in the launcher’s resources folder. A missing protected resource can prevent completion even when the IP and port are correct.
BeamMP works once on Linux, then will not reconnect
The BeamMP FAQ notes a native Linux launcher issue in which the client may connect only once. After disconnecting, restart the launcher before attempting the next connection.

macOS compatibility problems
BeamMP is fully compatible with Windows and Linux. macOS compatibility is still being worked on, and the official getting-started documentation warns that bugs are expected. If you are on macOS, treat launcher or connection instability as a platform-support limitation as well as a possible local configuration problem.
Server-side requirements in context
If you are joining someone else’s server, the following published figures help explain what the host is expected to provide, but they are not a checklist for your gaming PC:
