To host Fantasy Realm for Minecraft 1.18.2, download the matching Fantasy Realm Server Pack v3, run its supplied Forge server files with the Java version required by that pack, accept the Minecraft EULA, configure the server, and make its TCP port reachable. Every player must use the same Fantasy Realm 1.18.2 client release, Forge loader, mods, and configuration generation.

Fantasy Realm is a LunaPixelStudios Minecraft modpack built around RPG adventure and exploration. CurseForge lists Forge as its mod loader and shows a Minecraft 1.18.2 v3 release dated 7 October 2023. The same project lists a matching Fantasy Realm Server Pack v3 for Minecraft 1.18.2, dated 8 October 2023. Use those matching releases rather than combining files from different pack generations.
The project description calls the pack “A RPG ADVENTURE & EXPLORATION MODPACK FOCUSING ON QUALITY!” and advertises more than 250 mods, 800 quests, five new dimensions, over 100 new Overworld biomes, more than 100 new mobs, and over 200 dungeons and structures. It also lists customizable backpacks, magic systems, JourneyMap, and a MineColonies-built fantasy kingdom. These are the author’s feature claims, not independent performance measurements. The project page showed 459,765 total downloads in the captured 2026 search result; that number indicates reach, not a guarantee of server capacity.

Download the correct server pack
Open the Fantasy Realm project’s files listing on CurseForge and identify the Minecraft 1.18.2 entries. The client and server must come from the same v3 generation.

A 1.16.5 file page carries a “Java 8 Required!” note. That note belongs to the older file and is not the definitive Java requirement for the 1.18.2 v3 server. After downloading v3, read its included README and launch scripts and follow those instructions. Keep the archive unchanged until you have inspected what it contains.
Prepare the computer or server
Choose a machine that can stay online for the hours your group plays. A home computer is suitable for a small private group if its upload connection, power, and router permit it. A rented virtual or dedicated machine avoids home port-forwarding but adds a recurring bill and requires you to verify the host’s modpack support.
Files and access you need
- The Fantasy Realm 1.18.2 v3 server archive.
- Permission to create and execute files in a dedicated server directory.
- The Java runtime specified by the v3 server-pack scripts or README.
- Firewall access for the Java process and permission to open the selected TCP port.
- Router-administrator access if the machine is behind network address translation.
- Enough free disk space for the unpacked mods, generated dimensions, backups, logs, and world growth.
Use a clean directory such as fantasy-realm-1.18.2-v3. Do not unpack the server over another modpack. A separate directory prevents old jars, configs, scripts, and worlds from being silently reused.

Verify Java before launch
Open a terminal or command prompt in the server directory and run:
java -version
Compare the output with the requirement written in the v3 archive. If the command is not found, install the required Java runtime and ensure the executable is on the system path, or edit the supplied script to point to the correct Java executable if the documentation instructs you to do so. Do not select a Java version merely because it was required by the 1.16.5 archive.

- Extract the archive. Unpack the v3 server pack into the clean directory. The archive is expected to contain mod jars, configuration files, and a start script, but inspect the actual download rather than assuming every release has identical names.
- Read the launch files. Open the supplied Windows batch file, shell script, or README. Note the Java command, memory flags, working directory, and any required loader-install step. Keep a copy of the original script before editing it.
- Launch once. Run the supplied start script from the server directory. The first run may create Forge files, a
eula.txtfile, world folders, and additional generated configuration. - Accept the EULA deliberately. Stop when the script requests it, read Minecraft’s EULA, and change
eula=falsetoeula=trueonly if you accept those terms. Save the file. - Launch again. Run the same script a second time and watch the console for a completed server startup message. The first startup can take longer while dimensions, structures, and registries are prepared.
- Record the working command. Keep the supplied script as the standard way to start and stop the server. Starting a different jar manually can bypass the pack’s Java flags or class path.
If the process exits immediately, open latest.log and inspect the first explicit error or missing dependency. The final “server stopped” line is usually only a consequence of the earlier failure.
Configure the world and access controls
Set server.properties
Stop the server cleanly before editing configuration. In server.properties, set the values that match your group:

- Server name: Use a recognizable name so players select the right entry in their multiplayer list.
- Difficulty: Choose the challenge level before inviting players; changing it later affects the existing world.
- Whitelist: Keep it enabled during testing and add players explicitly.
- View distance and simulation distance: Start conservatively, then raise them only after observing tick time and memory use during exploration.
- Network port: Keep the port used by the server and the firewall/router rule consistent. If you change it, update the address players use.
Make one change at a time and retain a copy of the previous file. A malformed property can prevent startup, while an aggressive distance setting can create unnecessary chunk and entity work.
Build a safe operator routine
Use the server console for administrative commands and give operator status only to people who need it. Do not publish console credentials, remote-management passwords, or private home addresses. Keep the whitelist on until the server has passed a local connection test and the firewall rule is confirmed.

- Test locally first. From the host computer, connect with the local address and configured port. This separates Minecraft, Forge, and modpack problems from Internet routing problems.
- Allow Java through the host firewall. Create an inbound rule for the server’s selected TCP port and allow the Java process used by the start script. Apply the rule only to the network profiles you trust.
- Forward the port on the router. Map the chosen external TCP port to the host computer’s local address. Give the computer a DHCP reservation or static local address so the rule does not break after a reboot.
- Test from outside the home network. Ask a friend on another connection to join, or use a device on cellular data. Testing from inside the same Wi-Fi can produce misleading results when a router lacks hairpin NAT.
- Share only the public endpoint. Give players the public address and port shown by your router or Internet provider. Never share the router login, private LAN address, or server-console credentials.
If local joining works but outside players cannot connect, the problem is usually the firewall, router forwarding, carrier-grade NAT, or an incorrect public address. Contacting an Internet provider may be necessary when inbound connections are blocked upstream.
Make every client match
Each player should install the Fantasy Realm 1.18.2 client release corresponding to the server’s v3 pack. The Forge loader, mod jars, configuration generation, and pack version all matter. A player who installs a newer or older Fantasy Realm profile may reach the server but fail during the handshake, or may be rejected before the world loads.

- Have the player select Minecraft 1.18.2 and the Fantasy Realm v3 client profile.
- Confirm that the launcher is using Forge, not vanilla or another loader.
- Compare the client profile’s release with the server archive name and download date.
- Remove extra mods added outside the pack while diagnosing a connection failure.
- Connect only after the server has completed startup and the player is on the whitelist.
Some modpacks include visual, shader, or performance components intended only for clients. If the pack documentation marks a jar as client-side, do not copy it into the server’s mods directory. Conversely, deleting a required gameplay mod from the client will create a mismatch.
How much RAM and CPU does Fantasy Realm need?
There is no authoritative, reproducible Fantasy Realm 1.18.2 v3 benchmark that converts allocated RAM into a guaranteed player count. The pack’s advertised scale—250-plus mods, five dimensions, 800-plus quests, extensive biome generation, and hundreds of structures—makes it substantially heavier than a vanilla server, but those feature counts do not establish a numeric memory minimum or maximum player capacity.
Treat capacity as a measurement exercise using your intended settings. Record the result while players are doing the activities that stress the server most:
- Fresh exploration and simultaneous chunk generation.
- Travel between dimensions and visits to structure-heavy areas.
- Mob farms, MineColonies activity, and large bases with many block entities.
- Your chosen view distance and simulation distance.
- The highest number of concurrent players you expect, plus a safety margin.
Watch the Java process’s allocated and used memory, garbage-collection pauses, CPU utilization, disk space, and server tick time. A server that has free memory but sustained tick delays is CPU- or world-generation-bound; adding RAM alone will not solve it. A server that repeatedly reaches its heap limit needs a review of the launch flags, workload, and available physical memory. Never allocate the entire machine to Java: the operating system, file cache, backups, and other services also need headroom.

A practical sizing test
- Start with the memory setting documented by the v3 script or your hosting provider.
- Generate and explore a representative area with one player, then repeat with the expected group size.
- Travel through a new dimension and a structure-dense region while observing tick time and memory.
- Increase view or simulation distance only if the previous run remains stable.
- Keep the smallest allocation that completes the test without crashes, long pauses, or persistent tick lag, then leave additional headroom for world growth.
Because player behavior and hardware vary, publish your measured workload and settings when reporting capacity instead of promising a fixed number of players.
Managed hosting through CurseForge’s documented workflow
CurseForge’s official Servers guide describes a hosted workflow for modpacks that have matching server packs. The documented stages are selecting the modpack, choosing a plan, selecting a region, entering server details, and paying. The guide identifies Shockbyte as the hosting provider and Tebex as the billing platform for that workflow.
For Fantasy Realm, select the Minecraft 1.18.2 v3 server-pack file explicitly if the host offers several files. Before paying, read the current terms for memory, CPU share, storage, backups, modpack-version selection, world-transfer options, and support. Prices, plan limits, regional availability, and included features change, so an old article or screenshot is not a reliable quotation.
What managed hosting removes
- Manual router port forwarding and most home-firewall work.
- Some of the operating-system and Java installation burden.
- Routine service restarts and web-panel access to logs, files, and backups, depending on the plan.

What you still need to verify
- That the panel supports the exact Fantasy Realm 1.18.2 v3 server archive.
- Whether you can edit scripts, Forge arguments,
server.properties, and mod/config files. - How often backups run, how long they are retained, and whether restoration is self-service.
- Where the server region is located and whether it provides acceptable latency for your players.
- What happens to your world and files if you downgrade, cancel, or change plans.

Choose self-hosting when control, local access, and avoiding a monthly bill outweigh maintenance. Choose managed hosting when reliable public access, simpler setup, and provider-side infrastructure matter more than unrestricted control.
Troubleshoot the first failures in the right order
The server will not start
- Confirm you extracted the 1.18.2 v3 server pack, not a 1.16.5 archive.
- Run
java -versionand compare it with the v3 script or README. - Check that
eula=truewas set only after the first launch created the file. - Read the first meaningful exception in
latest.log, not the final generic shutdown line. - Restore the original launch script if manual edits introduced an invalid path or argument.
Players receive a missing-mod or incompatible-version error
- Compare the client profile and server archive release, including the v3 designation.
- Confirm both sides use Minecraft 1.18.2 and Forge.
- Remove extra client mods and any client-only jars copied to the server.
- Do not replace one mod jar with a similarly named file from another pack version.
The server starts but outside players cannot join
- Verify local joining first.
- Check the host firewall rule for the selected TCP port.
- Check that router forwarding targets the host’s current local address.
- Confirm players are using the current public address and configured port.
- Investigate carrier-grade NAT or upstream blocking if forwarding appears correct.
The world lags or crashes during exploration
- Measure tick time, CPU, memory, and disk usage during new chunk generation.
- Lower view distance or simulation distance temporarily.
- Test with fewer simultaneous explorers and postpone dimension-heavy travel while diagnosing.
- Check storage capacity and the server log for a mod-specific exception.
- Do not regenerate the world or delete configs as a first response.
Backups, updates, and safe changes
Stop the server cleanly before copying or changing files. A useful backup set includes the world folders, mods, config, defaultconfigs, launch scripts, and server.properties. Store at least one backup away from the machine running the server and verify that an archive can actually be opened.
Before changing Fantasy Realm, Forge, Java, or a major configuration value:
- Record the current pack and loader versions.
- Stop the server and create a dated backup.
- Test the change on a copy of the server directory when possible.
- Keep the previous files so you can roll back.
- Tell players which client release they must install before they reconnect.
Never regenerate a world or wholesale-delete configuration files until a backup exists. A clean reinstall can remove the evidence needed to identify a mismatch and can permanently discard generated progress.
