To join a friend who is already playing a Fortnite Creative map, open the Social panel, select your friend, and choose Join Creative Server. If that option is unavailable, check the friend’s privacy setting or join their party and enter the experience together.
Join a friend who is already playing

Make sure you and your friend are both in Fortnite and that your friend is in the Creative experience you want to play.

Open the Social panel, find your friend, and select Join Creative Server. Epic documents this as a way for Epic friends to enter an in-progress Creative game even when they are not in the same party. Epic’s Creative permissions guide explains the direct-join flow.
If “Join Creative Server” is unavailable
Check the friend’s privacy setting
For a friend who is not already in your party, Epic says the host’s participation privacy must allow Friends or Public. Ask your friend to review their profile privacy. Epic’s current instructions also place social and gameplay privacy controls under Settings > Account and Privacy. See Epic’s privacy-settings guide.

Join through a party instead
From the lobby, invite your friend to your party, or have them join yours if the party allows it. With Joinable selected, friends can enter the party; with Invite Only, they need an invitation or your approval of a join request. Party Joinability is managed in party controls in the Social tab. After you are together, start or enter the Creative experience. Epic explains the options in its Epic Parties FAQ.
Direct join or party: which route should you use?

These are separate access controls: a friend’s Creative privacy setting governs direct participation, while party Joinability governs who can enter the party.

Playing across platforms
Epic says Fortnite players can play with friends on any platform. Players on platforms other than PC or Mac need cross-play enabled to play with friends on other platforms; the exact setting path can depend on the platform. Epic’s friend and cross-play instructions also explain how to add someone by their Epic display name from the lobby if you are not friends yet.
Joining to play is not the same as joining to edit
Entering a published map to play does not automatically give you permission to edit its island. Epic describes a separate Create-mode collaboration flow: the owner sets Permissions to Public, invites the other player to the party, has both players ready up, meets them in the hub, and enters the owner’s personal golden rift. Menu labels and this older Create-mode flow may change as Fortnite is updated. See Epic’s Creative-mode explainer for that editing workflow.

If you get in but cannot talk
Fortnite has party chat and island game chat. Check which channel you intend to use; island game chat works in the same island instance only when the creator supports it. Communication settings, parental controls, or platform settings may also restrict voice or text chat. Epic’s chat and party-options guide covers those controls.
