To join a Mario Kart World online tournament, open the game, choose Online Play, press the minus button to search for an event, then enter the tournament’s four-digit Event ID. Use the code and dates shown on the official Nintendo listing for the event you want; the code is not a general room code and may not work outside that event’s participation period.
The key is to use the right identifier in the right place. A listed event or tournament uses its four-digit Event ID in the event search. A friend-hosted room uses a separate six-digit Room ID through the Friends menu. Before entering either, make sure you have the game, a Nintendo Switch 2, a Nintendo Account, internet access, and Nintendo Switch Online membership.

What you need before joining

- Mario Kart World.
- A Nintendo Account.

Nintendo Switch Online is sold separately. Nintendo also says online features are not available in every country, and its terms apply. Check the event’s own page for regional or age eligibility rather than assuming that every listing is open to every player.

It is useful to separate the things that let you get online from the conditions that let you participate in a particular event. The console, game, account, internet connection, and membership are general prerequisites identified by Nintendo. The event page may then add its own period, regional or age limits, rules, and ranking or reward conditions. Meeting the general prerequisites does not by itself confirm that a particular event is available to you or that you will qualify for a prize.
Before you start the game, have the event listing available so you can check the four-digit code and the event period. A code remembered from another event is not a reliable substitute: Event IDs are specific to their listings. If the page has linked official rules, read those too, especially if you care about appearing in rankings or receiving a reward.
How to enter a tournament with an Event ID
- Open the official listing for the event. Confirm its region, participation period, rules, eligibility, and Event ID. An event listing is the authority for its own code and conditions; an old code from another event is not a substitute.
- Start Mario Kart World and choose Online Play.
- Press the minus button to search for an event. Nintendo’s guidance uses the labels “Online Play” and “Find Event”; a recent event page describes the route as “Online Play > Press the – Button to search for an event > Enter 4-digit Event ID.”
- Enter the event’s four-digit Event ID. Check the digits against the listing before proceeding. For the Fall Cup 2026 example, Nintendo of America’s event listing gives Event ID 3616.
- Select the event and follow the in-game prompts during its Event Period. Nintendo says, “To enter, you must participate in the Event in the Mario Kart World game during the Event Period.” Merely finding or reading the listing is not participation.
These are in-game entry steps. The event page may also set conditions for rankings, prizes, or rewards, so joining the event and qualifying for a particular result are not necessarily the same thing.

Enter it in the game’s event-search flow, not in the screen for joining a friend’s room. Start Mario Kart World, select Online Play, press the minus button to search for an event, and enter the four-digit Event ID from the official listing. Nintendo’s event guidance also uses the label “Find Event.” The wording can vary between instructions, but the important distinction is that an Event ID belongs in the event search.
Do not assume that an event code is a password for a general online room or that it can be entered on the event web page. The listing tells you which event to look for; participation takes place in the game. Follow any prompts the game presents after you select the event.
Check the event details before entering
Event settings differ. Before searching for the code, check the listing for the information that determines whether the event is the one you intend to join:

- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Race from one course to another through interconnected paths that span the world
- Traverse mountains, forests, cities, and more—with shifting weather patterns and a day/night cycle
- Event Period and local time: Confirm both the start and end dates and how the listed time applies in your location. A code tied to an expired period—or a different event—may not get you into the event you expect.
- Event ID: Use the four-digit ID printed for that specific listing. Do not rely on a code remembered from a previous challenge.
- Mode and race settings: Look for the listed race type, engine class, team setting, item rules, COM setting, course selection, and race limit, where provided.
- Region and eligibility: Review the event’s participation rules for location, age, or other restrictions. The available details can be event-specific.
- Attempts, rankings, prizes, or points: Check whether the listing imposes limits or extra requirements to appear in rankings or receive a reward. Do not assume that entering automatically satisfies those conditions.
- Public results: Consider the listing’s results notice. Nintendo says account details such as a username, player icon, and score may appear on an event results page.
These checks answer different questions. The Event Period tells you when you must participate; the Event ID identifies the listing; and the settings tell you what kind of races the event has configured. Eligibility and extra ranking or reward conditions determine whether you can take part and what may count toward a result. Checking each item before entering is more reliable than treating a successful code lookup as proof that every condition has been met.

Fall Cup 2026 example
Nintendo of America’s Fall Cup 2026 listing gives Event ID 3616 and an Event Period from September 19, 2026, through December 12, 2026. As of October 13, 2026, those dates include the current date, but the listing should still be checked for any updated details and the applicable local timing.
The event’s listed settings are:
| Setting | Fall Cup 2026 listing |
|---|---|
| Mode | VS Race |
| Engine class | 150cc |
| Teams | No teams |
| Items | Normal items |
| COM | No COM |
| Course selection | Connected |
| Race limit | Up to 32 races |
Those values describe this event only; they are not default settings for every Mario Kart World tournament. The Nintendo event listing and its linked official rules govern its own eligibility and participation conditions.
The settings are worth checking before you join because they describe the event you are agreeing to play, not just its name. In this example, the event is VS Race at 150cc, has no teams, uses normal items, has no COM, uses connected course selection, and allows up to 32 races. Do not assume that another event will use this same format or race limit. If you prefer a particular mode or ruleset, compare the listing’s settings with what you want before entering.

Tournament event or friend-hosted room?
An Event ID and a Room ID serve different purposes. Use the event search for a listed tournament or open event. To join a friend-hosted room, use the Friends route instead.
| What you want to join | Where to go | Identifier |
|---|---|---|
| A listed tournament or open event | Online Play, then press the minus button to search for an event | Four-digit Event ID published for that event |
| A friend-hosted online room | Friends, then select an online friend or Search by Room ID | Six-digit Room ID supplied by the host |
If you have a six-digit code from a friend, it is a room identifier, not the four-digit tournament Event ID. Conversely, entering an event code does not join a particular friend’s room.
The distinction matters even if both codes are described casually as a “room code” or “tournament code” in conversation. For an event, find the official Nintendo listing and use its four-digit Event ID in the event search. For a friend’s room, use the Friends menu and either select an online friend or choose Search by Room ID with the six-digit Room ID the host supplied. If you are unsure which number you were given, ask the person who shared it whether it is an Event ID for a listed event or a Room ID for a hosted room.
If the event does not appear or the code does not work
Check the issue against the event listing before trying unrelated online menus:
- The code is rejected or finds the wrong listing: Verify that you entered all four digits and that the code belongs to the event you mean to join. Event IDs are specific to their listings; a previous event’s ID is not reusable as a general tournament code.
- The event is unavailable: Compare the listing’s Event Period with the current date and the time applicable to your location. Nintendo requires participation in the game during that period.
- You have a six-digit code: Ask whether the host gave you a Room ID. Follow the Friends route and choose Search by Room ID rather than the event-search route.
- You can enter but are unsure whether you qualify for a ranking or reward: Read the event’s rules and conditions on its official page. Entry alone does not establish that any separate ranking or prize condition has been met.
- Your result or name is missing from a ranking: Review the event page’s notes on account restrictions and player names. The Fall Cup listing warns that account restrictions or certain player names may affect whether a player is included or how the player appears in rankings.
- You are concerned about displayed account information: Check the results notice before participating. Nintendo says a username, player icon, and score may be visible on an event results page.
A practical check is to work from the listing outward: verify that you have the correct event page, compare its four-digit ID with the number entered, and confirm that its participation period is active. Then make sure you are using the event-search route rather than the Friends route. If the code works but a result or reward is at issue, switch from troubleshooting entry to reading the event’s rules; ranking or prize conditions can be separate from simply entering the event.
Names and account restrictions are also distinct from code entry. The Fall Cup listing warns that restrictions on an account or certain player names may affect inclusion or display in rankings. So a player might reach an event but still need to consult its conditions to understand how their result will be treated. Nintendo’s notice also means that participation may result in some account information being shown publicly on an event results page. Check that notice before playing if you are not comfortable with that possibility.

Which Nintendo page should you use?
Look for the official Nintendo page for the specific tournament you want to enter, not just an older set of challenge instructions. Nintendo’s Global Online Challenge instructions describe the general in-game event-search route and the membership requirement, but the particular challenge dates and code on those instructions are expired. A current event listing is the place to verify its Event ID, dates, settings, eligibility, and rules.

The Fall Cup 2026 listing is an example of a specific event, not a permanent directory or a universal entry code. Nintendo event pages can describe different events and conditions, so rely on the listing for the event you intend to play.
Official Nintendo pages are useful for different parts of the process. General Global Online Challenge instructions explain the basic route for looking up an event and identify Nintendo Switch Online membership as a requirement. A specific event page provides the details that change from event to event, such as the current Event ID, Event Period, settings, eligibility, rules, and any results notice. Nintendo Support’s friend-room instructions cover the separate Friends and Room ID process. If one source is describing an older challenge or a friend room, do not treat it as the current event’s code or entry method.
Do not assume that a general page, a past challenge, or a friend’s message is a live tournament listing. Start with the event you actually want to enter, and verify its own date range and code immediately before joining. This avoids two common mix-ups: trying an expired Event ID and taking a six-digit Room ID to the four-digit event search.

- Have the Nintendo Switch 2 system, Mario Kart World, Nintendo Account, internet access, and Nintendo Switch Online membership required for online event participation.
- Open the official page for the specific event, not an old challenge instruction or an unrelated room invitation.
- Check the Event Period, including the timing applicable in your location, and make sure it is active.
- Copy the event’s four-digit Event ID from that page.
- Review the mode, race settings, eligibility, and any rules for attempts, rankings, prizes, or points.
- Read the results notice if you want to know what account information may be displayed.
- In the game, use Online Play and the minus-button event search for the Event ID. Use Friends and Search by Room ID only for a friend-hosted room.
Once you have checked those details, select the event in the game and follow its prompts during the listed Event Period. Keep the event page’s conditions in mind after entry: participating is the required in-game action, while a ranking or reward may depend on additional rules stated by Nintendo.
