To join a RedM server, install a legitimate, fully updated PC copy of Red Dead Redemption 2, install the RedM client from redm.net, open Play, find a server, and select Connect. If a community gives you an IP address, port, or cfx.re/join link, press F8 and run connect <server-ip:port> or connect <cfx.re/join-link>. A successful technical connection may still be followed by a whitelist, application, rules, identity, age, or Discord requirement set by that individual community.
What RedM is
RedM is the multiplayer modification for Red Dead Redemption 2 that lets players enter customized dedicated servers powered by Cfx. The official description is that RedM enables multiplayer on customized dedicated servers; each server can then add its own rules, role-play standards, economy, progression, moderation, and onboarding process. RedM is therefore a client for reaching many separate communities, not one single shared game world with identical rules everywhere.

The joining process has two distinct stages:
- Technical access: your RedM client locates the server and connects to it.
- Community access: that server decides whether you may play immediately or must complete an application, whitelist, verification, or rules step.
Keeping those stages separate makes most connection problems easier to diagnose. A server can be reachable while still denying entry because your application is pending, your rules acknowledgement is incomplete, or the community requires a Discord verification step.

Requirements before you install RedM
A legitimate PC installation of Red Dead Redemption 2
Cfx.re states that RedM requires a fully updated installation of Red Dead Redemption 2. RedM will not work with an illegitimate copy. The base game must be installed on a PC before you launch the RedM client.

Official purchase channels listed for the PC version include Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Rockstar Warehouse. Check the edition and launcher compatibility for your region before buying or installing, because owning a different platform version does not satisfy the PC prerequisite. The relevant product is Red Dead Redemption 2 PC, not a console edition.
A current RedM client
Download the client from the official RedM website after the base game is installed. Use the current installer offered there rather than an unofficial mirror. Launch RedM from the installed client; the base game and RedM are separate pieces of software.
Information supplied by the server
For a public listing, you only need the server name or a way to identify it in the browser. For a private, unlisted, or community-promoted server, obtain the exact IP and port or the complete cfx.re/join/... link. Copy the address exactly. A single missing character can send you to the wrong destination or produce a failed connection.

Install RedM step by step
- Install a legitimate PC copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 through a supported purchase channel.
- Apply every available update to the base game. RedM requires the installation to be fully updated.
- Open redm.net and download the RedM client from the official download page.
- Run the RedM installer and complete its prompts. Keep the client in its normal installed location unless the installer asks you to choose one.
- Launch RedM after installation. If the client asks you to locate or authorize the base game, point it to the updated PC installation you already prepared.
- Wait for the client to finish any first-run resource or update work before attempting to join a server.
If RedM starts but cannot validate the game, stop at this stage and confirm that the PC copy is legitimate and fully updated. Do not try to bypass the check with an unofficial build; the documented prerequisite is an authentic, current installation.
Keep the launcher you used for the PC copy available when troubleshooting. Steam, Epic Games Store, and Rockstar Warehouse are separate purchase channels, so confirm that RedM is being directed to the installation you actually own rather than to an old, moved, or incomplete folder.
Method 1: Join from the RedM server browser
The browser is the normal route when a server is publicly listed.
- Open RedM.
- Select the Play tab.
- Search for the server by name, or use the available filters to narrow the list.
- Select the correct server entry and choose Connect.
- Wait while RedM downloads or prepares that server’s resources and loads the world.
If the server name does not appear
A server may be difficult to find by name, may be temporarily unavailable, or may expect a direct address. A current RedM hosting guide documents an alternative search-bar method: type > followed by the server IP. For example, enter >203.0.113.10:30120 only when that is the address supplied by the community; do not substitute an address at random. Select the resulting server and connect.

If the server gave you a Cfx.re link instead of an IP, use the F8 method below. Do not remove the cfx.re/join/ portion or replace it with the community’s display name.
Check the listing before you click
Read the server’s displayed description and compare its name carefully with the community’s own announcement. Similar names can belong to different communities, with different rules and onboarding. If the listing indicates a queue, allow it to proceed instead of repeatedly launching multiple connection attempts; if the listing is absent, use the server’s published direct link or ask its support channel whether it is currently online.
Before selecting Connect, confirm that the listing matches the expected gameplay focus and access policy. A role-play server may require an application even though its entry is visible, while another listing may be open immediately. The browser only tells you how to reach the endpoint; it does not promise approval.

Direct connection is useful when a community gives you an IP and port or a short Cfx.re join link. Cfx.re documents that the client console opens with F8 and that the connect command accepts either an address with a port or a URL.
- Start RedM and wait until the client is ready.
- Press F8 to open the client console.
- Enter one of the documented command forms below.
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the connection and server resources to load.

Replace the angle-bracket text with the real value you received. Do not type the brackets themselves. If the community provided a full URL, preserve the entire link exactly as given. You can also paste a direct address into the console rather than trying to reconstruct it from a server name.
When direct connection is preferable
- The server is intentionally unlisted or is shared only with applicants.
- The community’s announcement gives a current
cfx.re/joinlink. - The browser search returns several similarly named servers.
- A moderator has supplied a precise IP and port for troubleshooting.
Direct connection bypasses searching, not the community’s rules. You can reach the server technically and still be stopped at its application, whitelist, or verification stage.
Read the command literally
The syntax examples use angle brackets as placeholders. For an address supplied as 198.51.100.25:30120, the command is connect 198.51.100.25:30120, not connect <198.51.100.25:30120>. Likewise, a join link must follow connect with the complete link. Check the colon between an IP and port, the slashes in a Cfx.re link, and every letter or number before pressing Enter.
What happens after you select Connect
RedM first establishes the technical connection, then prepares the server’s resources and loads the world. The wait can look different from one community to another because resources, queues, and onboarding screens are controlled by the server. Avoid opening several simultaneous attempts: let the current attempt finish or fail, then use the exact message and stage to decide what to do next.

Being placed in a queue is not the same as being rejected. A queue message concerns availability or capacity, while a whitelist, rules, or verification message concerns your community permission. Record the wording rather than assuming that every pause is an installation fault.
Server-specific onboarding after you connect
Every community controls its own access policy. Some servers allow an immediate spawn after the resources load; others require additional steps before your account is permitted to play.
Applications and whitelists
An application may ask about your character, role-play experience, or agreement with the server’s rules. A whitelist is an approval applied by that community, not by RedM itself. If access is denied after the technical connection succeeds, read the server’s application instructions and wait for its stated review process rather than repeatedly reconnecting.
Rules acknowledgement
Many role-play communities require you to read a rulebook and explicitly acknowledge it. Treat that acknowledgement as a condition of access: learn the server’s expectations before attempting to play, because moderators may enforce them immediately after approval. Rules can cover character conduct, voice or text communication, and the boundaries of role-play; use the server’s own rulebook for the exact standards.
Age or identity checks
Some communities add age or identity verification. These requirements are server-specific, so confirm what information is requested, where it must be submitted, and which support channel handles questions. Do not assume that completing RedM’s installation satisfies a separate community verification policy.
Discord verification and support
A server may direct you to Discord for an application form, account linking, rules, announcements, or technical support. One documented onboarding flow uses two-step verification and directs applicants to Discord support channels. Follow the instructions published by the server you selected; another community may use a different process or none at all.
Join only the community’s published Discord invitation and check that its name matches the server listing. If a message requests information beyond the stated verification process, pause and ask a moderator through the community’s official support route.

A practical selection sequence
- Read the server description and note its gameplay focus.
- Identify whether it is open, application-based, or whitelist-only.
- Record the correct connection method: browser listing, IP and port, or Cfx.re link.
- Read the rules and note any age, identity, or Discord requirement before you spend time applying.
- Save the community’s support location so you know where to ask about a failed connection or pending approval.
Troubleshoot a failed RedM connection
There is no single universal fix for every RedM or server failure. The reliable approach is to identify whether the problem occurs before connection, during the address lookup, while resources load, or after the community’s access check.
RedM will not start or cannot validate the game
- Confirm that you installed a legitimate PC copy of Red Dead Redemption 2.
- Open the base-game launcher and apply all available updates; RedM requires a fully updated installation.
- Restart RedM only after the base game is current.
- If the error persists, record the exact wording and use the official RedM or Cfx.re support documentation rather than guessing at a workaround.
The server is missing from the browser
- Check the spelling of the server name and try the browser’s available filters.
- Ask the community whether the server is currently online or intentionally unlisted.
- If you were given an IP and port, try the documented search-bar form with
>followed by that address. - If you were given a Cfx.re link, use the F8 method instead of searching by name.
The F8 command fails
- Press F8 inside the RedM client, not in another application.
- Use the command prefix
connectfollowed by the exact IP and port or complete join link. - Remove the angle brackets used in the syntax examples; they indicate replacement text.
- Check every character, period, slash, colon, and port against the address supplied by the community.
- Ask the server’s support channel to confirm that the address is current.
The world starts loading but you cannot enter
This requires separating a resource-loading problem from a community permission decision. Note the exact stage and message, then check the server’s own onboarding instructions. A pending whitelist, uncompleted rules acknowledgement, age or identity check, or Discord verification can prevent access even after the technical connection begins.

RedM cannot approve a community whitelist. Submit the application through the server’s specified channel, follow its rules, and use its published support route for questions about a pending or rejected application. Do not create repeated applications unless the community explicitly tells you to do so.
You are told to verify through Discord
Use only the Discord invitation and support instructions published by the server you intended to join. Confirm that you are dealing with the same community name and connection address, then complete the stated verification steps. If the instructions are unclear, ask that server’s moderators; Discord requirements are controlled by the individual community.
Know when to stop retrying
Repeated attempts cannot correct an outdated address, a closed server, or a pending whitelist. After one careful browser or F8 attempt, capture the message, verify the address, and consult the community’s support channel. This produces useful information for moderators and avoids creating duplicate applications or queue entries.
Information to include when asking for help
Support staff can act more quickly when your report distinguishes the client from the server. Include:
- The exact RedM error message, copied without paraphrasing.
- Whether the base game is a legitimate PC installation and fully updated.
- Whether you used the browser, the
>IP:portsearch form, or the F8connectcommand. - The exact server name and the address or join link you used.
