The program launched in February 2025 to test the next Battlefield game in pre-alpha; by 2026, EA was using it to test Battlefield 6 content and features.
What Battlefield Labs is—and what it tests
EA announced Battlefield Labs on February 3, 2025, as an invitation-based community testing program for the upcoming Battlefield experience. At launch, EA described the game as pre-alpha: participants would play unfinished work and provide feedback to help shape development. The original announcement quoted Vince Zampella, then Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization, saying, “This game has so much potential. To find that potential, with us being pre-alpha, now is the time to test the experiences our teams have been building for our upcoming launch. Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to do that.” EA’s February 3, 2025 announcement frames that statement in the program’s launch-era context.
The original Labs overview described testing a broad range of systems, including combat, destruction, weapons, vehicles, gadgets, maps, modes, squad play, and class systems. The program did not end with the eventual game launch: EA said in January 2026 that Labs was being used to refine Battlefield 6 Season 2 content, including a test on Contaminated, and in July 2026 described testing upcoming Season 5 maps and planned map reworks. That makes Labs an ongoing test channel, not simply a pre-alpha signup for a game that has yet to arrive. See EA’s February 2025 overview, January 21, 2026 update, and July 30, 2026 update.

- Sign in to the EA Playtesting Portal with your EA Account.
- Make sure your EA Account is linked to the platform account you would use to play.
- Accept the playtesting terms and complete the registration steps shown in the portal.
- Monitor the email associated with your account for an invitation. EA says only selected players are invited; signing up is not a guarantee of selection.
EA Help currently lists the EA app, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S as supported platforms. It describes the initial selection pool as a select group in Europe and North America. These are EA’s listed details, not a promise that every region or applicant can participate; check the help page for current eligibility and platform information.
What happens if you are selected?
EA emails selected players with the relevant test details and timing. Participation is under a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), so test material is not public content: do not post screenshots, video, or other details covered by the agreement. EA’s January 2026 update confirms that invitations and test schedules are communicated by email and that participation remains subject to an NDA.

Why EA is still using Labs
Community testing lets EA gather feedback on specific work before or around its release. The focus has shifted with the game’s development: the 2025 announcement described early, incomplete systems for the next Battlefield, while 2026 updates described testing seasonal content, maps, reworks, and features for Battlefield 6. The exact build and test subject depend on the invitation and the phase EA is running.
