Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo join a friend’s online Minecraft: Bedrock Edition world, make sure you’re both online and friends in Minecraft, then open Play > Friends > Joinable Friends and select their gamertag. The steps differ for Java Edition, local-network games, and Realms, so check that you and the host are using the same edition first.
Choose the right way to join
Use this quick comparison to find the route that matches your setup:
| Route | Edition | Must the host be online? | Network setup |
|---|---|---|---|
| Join a friend’s world | Bedrock | Yes; the host must have the world open | Online; both players must be Minecraft friends |
| Join a LAN world | Bedrock or Java, using its own edition’s flow | Yes | Players share the same local network |
| Join a server | Java players use Java servers; server and client versions must match | Not necessarily; it depends on the server | Connect through the Multiplayer menu |
| Join a Realm | Java or Bedrock; the Realm must match your edition | No | Invitation or join code |
Ordinary Java and Bedrock multiplayer worlds do not connect to each other. A Java player cannot join a Bedrock friend’s world through the standard friend-world flow, or the reverse. See Minecraft Help’s multiplayer guidance and its explanation of Java and Bedrock editions.
Join a friend’s online Bedrock world
Minecraft Help says, “You can join a friend’s Minecraft: Bedrock Edition world if you’re both friends in Minecraft and online at the same time.”

- Console multiplayer won’t connect: Check the current online multiplayer subscription requirements for your console. Minecraft Help lists Xbox Game Pass Core, Nintendo Switch Online, and PlayStation Plus for the consoles covered by its guidance.
- The LAN world doesn’t appear: Confirm both devices are on the same local network and that the host enabled both multiplayer and LAN visibility.
- The Realm is unavailable: Ask the owner for an invitation or join code, and verify that you launched the edition matching the Realm.
