Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo publish a Fortnite island, enroll in Epic’s Fortnite Developer Program—there is no separate generic “dev account.” Sign in to the Creator Portal and select Enroll. You must be at least 18 and meet one of Epic’s two spending conditions from the previous 365 days. Epic checks account-specific eligibility during enrollment.
What a Fortnite “dev account” means
An ordinary Epic Games account lets you use Epic services, but it does not by itself mean you can publish islands. The relevant access is enrollment in the Fortnite Developer Program. Epic describes the Creator Portal as the place to publish islands and manage your creator presence, including your profile and island performance metrics. See Epic’s Creator Portal overview.

Check the eligibility requirements
Epic’s enrollment requirements say you must be at least 18 and meet either of these spending routes within the last 365 days:
- Qualifying Epic Payments purchase: Make a real-money purchase through Epic Payments. Epic lists the Epic Games Store, Fab.com, Fortnite.com, and Fortnite on PC as qualifying locations. Purchases made with gift card balance or Epic Account balance do not qualify for this route.
- Fortnite spending: Spend and redeem at least $20 in Fortnite during that period.
Owning Fortnite or having an Epic account is not enough to establish eligibility. Your purchase history is private account information, so check the Creator Portal while signed in.

Enroll through Creator Portal
- Sign in: Open the Creator Portal using the Epic account you want associated with your islands.
- Start enrollment: Select Enroll. If the account meets Epic’s criteria, continue through the program terms and Community Rules.
- Complete your developer profile: Choose the developer name, also called your creator code, that will appear with your islands. Epic allows 3–16 characters using letters and numbers, underscores, dashes, or dots. It says the code can be changed only once every 12 months, so choose carefully.
Developer Program versus Support-A-Creator
These programs serve different purposes. Support-A-Creator is associated with creators who promote Fortnite content on other platforms; it is not a substitute for Developer Program enrollment when seeking engagement payouts. Epic says existing Support-A-Creator members retain access to publishing through Creator Portal, but must also join the Fortnite Developer Program to receive engagement payouts.
| Program | Purpose | Island publishing and engagement payouts |
|---|---|---|
| Fortnite Developer Program | Create and publish Fortnite islands. | Enables island publishing and eligibility to participate in engagement payouts, subject to program terms. |
| Support-A-Creator | Promote Fortnite content on other platforms. | Membership alone does not replace Developer Program enrollment for engagement payouts. |
Epic explains the distinction in its Support-A-Creator terms and Developer Program materials.

What happens after enrollment
Enrollment gives you the program access; you still need to make an island and submit it for release. You can create with Fortnite Creative or Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). Epic’s publishing instructions describe starting the release process in the relevant tool, then completing the publication flow in Creator Portal. The island is submitted for moderation, and it must comply with Epic’s Fortnite Developer Rules. UEFN projects are not published directly from UEFN to players; Creator Portal is part of the release process.
Read the current Fortnite Developer Rules before publishing. The rules page was last updated April 29, 2026. Among other things, developers must not present an island as officially made in partnership with Epic, must disclose paid commercial content as required by applicable law, and must follow Epic’s content, promotion, and intellectual-property rules.

Rank #3
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

How payouts work—and what the figures do not promise
Joining the program creates an opportunity to receive engagement payouts; it does not guarantee earnings. Epic’s Developer Program FAQ describes program-level allocations, not an individual creator’s expected or guaranteed income. The FAQ states that 40% of eligible net revenue from Fortnite’s Item Shop and related real-money purchases is made available for engagement payouts, with the remaining 60% funding Fortnite ecosystem development by Epic. The retrieved FAQ does not state the year for that figure.
The same FAQ says creators ordinarily receive 50% of the V-Bucks value from in-island transaction sales. It also states a temporary 100% rate from January 9, 2026, through January 31, 2027. Because that rate is time-limited, check Epic’s Developer Program FAQ for current terms. To receive payouts through a monetization program, Epic’s creator account setup guide says a tax profile and Hyperwallet setup are part of the process; requirements can depend on account and location.
