Grounded 2’s Public Test Build 0.6.0 lets players try development features through Xbox Insider Hub or Steam’s beta settings. Obsidian announced the build on October 6, 2026, and recommends starting a new game: test progress may not carry over, and test content can affect existing saves.

What’s in Grounded 2 Public Test Build 0.6.0?

Obsidian describes the Public Test Build as a development phase. Version 0.6.0 adds a Centipede boss fight; termite workers, soldiers and queen, plus the OGRR King; and a Potato Beetle Buggy. It also includes Abyss improvements, SCA.B color schemes, collectible figurines, a Yoking Press for gear upgrades, new resources and craftables, perfect dodge, and base painting with a Splotcher. Obsidian’s October 6 announcement links to forum patch notes for the full additions and bug-fix list.

How to join the Public Test Build

Choose the enrollment route for your platform:

Platform How to select the test Return to the main build
Xbox Join through the Xbox Insider Hub’s Previews section. Leave the Grounded 2 Public Test preview.
Steam In the game’s Properties, select the public_test - Public Test Build branch under Betas. Opt out of beta participation in the same Betas settings.

Obsidian’s joining guide provides the platform-specific steps:

Xbox

  1. Install and launch Xbox Insider Hub.
  2. Open Previews and select Grounded 2 Public Test.
  3. Restart the console if needed to trigger the update.

For this Xbox Insider route, Obsidian says participants need to own the game or have an active Xbox Game Pass or PC Game Pass subscription. Its guide lists this condition for Xbox Insider; it does not state the same requirement in the separate Steam beta-branch instructions.

What happens to your save?

Do not assume that test progress will transfer to the normal game. Obsidian warns that progress made on the test server “may or may not carry over.” Its joining guide recommends starting a new game because test content can affect previous saves. Preserve a separate main save before joining; the guidance does not guarantee an existing save will remain safe or compatible.

Why is there a Public Test Build?

The test environment gives players a chance to try development changes and provide feedback. In a December 2, 2025 post, Obsidian described future feature updates—smaller updates focused on areas such as technology, performance and gameplay mechanics—as candidates for Public Test Beta. That background does not mean every update or platform will receive a test build; the October 2026 announcement is the source for the currently announced 0.6.0 test.
