If a cover is impractical, gentle occasional dusting is an alternative. Neither approach guarantees a perfectly dust-free display; the right choice depends on the finished model’s size, fragility and how often you want to handle it.
Choose between a cover and an open display
Use a cover to limit dust settling on the model
LEGO describes its Play and Display Case – Blue 5006157 as a two-level display with a transparent cover and six gray baseplates, intended to store and display models and minifigures while helping keep them free from dust. The listing gives dimensions of over 7.5 inches high, 15.5 inches wide and 5.5 inches deep; the models and minifigures shown are not included.
Those dimensions make it an example of a covered display, not a guaranteed fit for a console build. Measure the completed model and compare its width, height and depth with the case’s usable internal space before buying. Also check that the model can pass through the opening, that the cover sits securely, and that you can still reach the build when you need to clean or rearrange it. The external dimensions alone may not describe the available interior clearance.
Other makers list display cases and clear dust covers for brick models, including Briksmax display cases. Product-category availability does not establish compatibility with a particular custom or LEGO console model.

Keep it open if access matters more
An uncovered display is easier to reach and rearrange, but dust will settle on it and will need to be removed periodically. This can make sense if the build is too large for a practical case or if you handle it often. Consider whether its details are delicate and whether you can safely steady it while dusting; a complicated build may be harder to clean without dislodging pieces.
How to dust an uncovered LEGO display
Some LEGO owners report using soft brushes for dusting, but that is an anecdotal practice, not a method endorsed or tested by LEGO in the guidance cited here. If you choose this approach, use a gentle touch and take care around loose, delicate or hard-to-reach parts. A soft detailing brush is a tool category to consider, not a specific product recommendation.

There is no official LEGO dusting schedule in the cited care guidance. Dust it when you can see buildup or when the model needs attention, rather than treating a fixed interval as necessary. If the build is unstable or difficult to handle, a properly fitted cover may be a better maintenance choice.

LEGO’s official cleaning guidance says: “We recommend that you clean your LEGO pieces by hand using water no hotter than 104°F / 40°C and a soft cloth or sponge.” LEGO also permits mild detergent, followed by rinsing the pieces with clear water.

That guidance is for LEGO pieces; it is not an instruction to submerge an assembled console display. A built model may include components or materials that need separate care. LEGO warns against washing pieces in a washing machine or dishwasher and against drying them in an oven, microwave or with a hair dryer, because high temperatures can change the shape of bricks.

Check the fit before choosing a case
- Finished dimensions: Measure the model at its widest, tallest and deepest points, including protruding details, and compare with the case’s usable interior dimensions.
- Access: Check how the model enters and exits, and whether you can reach it for cleaning or rearranging without forcing pieces past the opening.
- Stability and visibility: Make sure the cover sits securely and that its transparency and footprint suit the place where you plan to display the build.
- Handling frequency: If you expect to move or adjust the model often, weigh that convenience against the reduced exposure a cover offers.
