To upload audio to Roblox, use the Creator Dashboard’s Development Items > Audio page, Studio’s Asset Manager, or Open Cloud if you are automating uploads. Before uploading, make sure you have permission to use the audio and that the file meets Roblox’s format and size rules. An upload creates an asset; you still need to use its asset ID in your experience, and moderation and privacy settings affect whether others can play it.
Check the audio file before uploading
Roblox’s audio asset documentation lists these requirements for imported audio:
- You must have legal rights to use the audio, and it must comply with Roblox’s Community Rules and Terms of Use. A supported file format does not mean a copyrighted track is cleared for upload.
- The file must contain one audio track or stream and be in
.mp3,.ogg,.wav, or.flacformat. - It must be less than 20 MB and less than 7 minutes long.
- The sample rate must be 48 kHz or lower.
- Use mono or one of Roblox’s documented channel configurations: stereo 2.0, 3.0, or 5.1.
Check the exported file’s properties in your audio software if you are unsure about its size, duration, sample rate, or channels.
Upload through the Creator Dashboard
The browser-based route is convenient if you want to upload without opening Studio. Roblox documents this workflow in its audio-assets guide and the Creator Hub upload instructions.

- Open Creator Hub and select Development Items.
- Choose Audio, then click Upload Asset.
- Select the audio file from your device and confirm the selection.
- Enter a Name and Description.
- Click Upload at the bottom of the page.
The submitted asset enters moderation. Initially, it is visible only to you in the Audio tab.
Upload through Roblox Studio
Use Studio’s Asset Manager when you are already working in your experience. Roblox’s audio-assets documentation gives this workflow:

- Open the Asset Manager in Studio.
- Click Import.
- Select the audio file or files and confirm.
- Wait for the import status to finish.
Studio transcodes imported audio to standardize playback and check for invalid or corrupt files before saving it as an asset. Roblox notes that older audio software can export problematic headers or frames, which may cause an import to fail.
Choose an upload method

Know which upload limit applies
Roblox’s live documentation gives different quotas for general audio imports and Open Cloud API uploads. The figures below are stated by route and verification status; the documentation pages do not display publication dates.

These are not interchangeable quotas. Check the limit for the method you are using rather than treating one figure as Roblox’s universal audio-upload allowance.

Each imported audio file receives a unique asset ID and goes through moderation. Uploading creates the audio asset; it does not automatically add the sound to your game. Use the ID in your experience with Roblox audio objects. The location of a Sound object in the Explorer hierarchy affects whether it behaves as positional audio or background audio.

Imported audio is initially private. Roblox’s asset privacy system lets you grant permission to specific friends and experiences. If someone else—or an experience—cannot load the sound, check that moderation is complete and that the relevant experience or collaborator has permission to use it.
Uploading is not the same as public song visibility
Uploading an audio asset does not guarantee that a song will appear on a game’s public details page. Roblox says eligible songs must pass moderation and copyright checks, meet duration, unique-playback, and platform-age requirements, have an appropriate, meaningful title, and be uploaded by an ID-verified creator who has acknowledged Roblox’s Audio Terms of Use. Eligible songs become visible by default, and visibility can be changed on the asset’s Configure page. These conditions concern eligible songs, not every uploaded sound effect.

Compare the file with Roblox’s documented rules, then try the checks below:
- Confirm the extension is supported, the file is below 20 MB and 7 minutes, and its sample rate and channel configuration are allowed.
- Make sure the file contains a single track or stream rather than an unsupported combination.
- If Studio reports an import or transcoding problem, update your audio software and export the file again to a supported format. Older tools can produce invalid headers or frames.
- For a sound that uploaded but will not play for another person or experience, check moderation status and asset permissions.
