For a standard platform connection, sign in to the Epic Games account you want to keep, choose Link for the relevant platform, and follow the prompts for that game or device. If a code appears, use it only on the official Epic page or app opened by that flow, with the correct Epic account signed in.
First identify what the code is for: an on-screen platform-linking prompt, a security or recovery code, or an email code for removing a platform restriction. Those are different processes.

Link a platform account to Epic Games
Start with the Epic account you intend to use. If you have played Fortnite, Fall Guys, or Rocket League on a console or another platform, you may already have an Epic account. Epic advises completing and using that existing account so your progress and purchases stay associated with it, rather than creating a separate account by mistake. See Epic’s account-creation instructions.
- Sign in to the intended Epic Games account on the official Epic website or in the official app.
- Choose the relevant platform account’s Link option, such as Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo.
- Follow the on-screen steps for the specific game and platform. If the game or device displays a code, enter it only on the official Epic page or app that the game directs you to. Confirm the browser or app is signed in to the Epic account you want linked.
Epic’s general instructions tell users to select Link and follow the prompts; they do not establish a single code-entry sequence that applies to every game and platform. Do not use a code on a site you found separately or that the game did not direct you to.

Identify what kind of code you have
- Code or prompt displayed by a game or device: This belongs to that platform’s linking flow. Follow the game’s instructions and verify the Epic account shown in the official page or app before authorizing the connection.
- Security or recovery code: This verifies account access or helps recover an account. Use the verification method shown for your account; it is not a substitute for a platform-linking code.
- Email code for removing a platform restriction: This belongs to a separate restriction-removal process, not routine linking. Epic says that after completing this removal, you must wait 365 days before attempting another restriction-removal process. The interval is stated by Epic Games Player Support; the publication year is not stated in the support article. Read Epic’s instructions for changing a linked console account before taking action.
Fix common linking and sign-in errors
“This account for [platform] is already linked to another Epic Games account”
The platform account is attached to a different Epic account than the one currently signed in. Epic recommends signing in with that platform account in an incognito browser to identify which Epic account it reaches. Check that account before trying to link it elsewhere. See Epic’s sign-in error troubleshooting.
“You previously linked a different [platform] account”
A different account of that platform type is already linked to the Epic account. Check that you are signed in to the intended console account and Epic account before making changes. Do not unlink simply to get past the message.

Password or sign-in fails
For certain account errors, Epic suggests trying email sign-in, using an incognito window or another browser, and resetting the password when appropriate. Its sign-in troubleshooting page lists the relevant steps.
A code does not arrive or is rejected
Check the instructions on the screen to confirm whether it is a recovery code or a code for another purpose. For account recovery, use the verification option offered for the account and follow Epic’s account-recovery flow. Epic describes security codes as one possible recovery step; if you cannot use the listed verification methods, continue through that recovery process. Codes are not interchangeable.

Before unlinking an account
Unlinking can affect access to information stored on the Epic account, including skins and progress, according to Epic’s linked-console account guidance. Read the warnings and verify which Epic and platform accounts are involved before proceeding. Restriction removal is a separate procedure with its own emailed code and waiting period.

Enter credentials and verification codes only on official Epic websites or apps. Epic warns against entering login details on unofficial sites and recommends enabling two-factor authentication on Epic and linked accounts. Epic lists authenticator apps, SMS, and email as supported Epic 2FA methods. See Epic’s account-security guidance. Never share your password or verification code with a third party.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
