What you need
- A PlayStation Network account.

- A compatible headset or microphone if you want spoken commentary.
- A compatible camera if you want face-cam video. A camera is optional.
Enable 2FA in your Twitch account-security settings. Twitch’s activation screens and menu labels can change, so follow the current instructions shown by Twitch.

Microphone, party chat, and camera settings
Your microphone
On PS5, broadcast settings include microphone controls. If viewers cannot hear you, check that the microphone is not muted, the intended microphone is selected, the headset is connected correctly, and microphone audio is enabled in the broadcast settings. A headset or microphone is optional if you want to stream silent gameplay.
Party chat
Party audio is separate from your own microphone audio. Enable party audio in the broadcast settings, and ask party members to allow their voices to be shared. Party members may have their own permissions or settings that prevent their voices from appearing on Twitch.
Tell everyone in the party before including their voices. This is both a privacy precaution and a practical way to avoid unexpected audio on the stream.
Camera video
A camera is not required to link Twitch or broadcast gameplay. For PS5, PlayStation supports the PlayStation 5 HD Camera in the CFI-ZEY series. For PS4, the supported PlayStation Camera family is the CUH-ZEY series. Cameras are sold separately. Enable the camera through the broadcast options if you want face-cam video.

What viewers can see
A normal PlayStation broadcast shows the game screen and, if enabled, video from a connected compatible camera. It does not necessarily show every screen you see on the console. Non-game screens and some game scenes may be hidden, replaced by a blank screen, or marked as restricted for viewers. PlayStation also notes that certain scenes are intentionally blocked by games or the system.

Twitch is missing
- Check that you are using the intended PlayStation Network account.
- Update the console system software.
- Look under the correct console-specific menu: PS5 uses Users and Accounts > Linked Services; PS4 uses Account Management > Linked Services or the older Link with Other Services label.
- Check whether Twitch and other linked services are available in your country or region.
- Confirm that the account is not a child account. PlayStation says child accounts cannot broadcast on its consoles.
- Check for PlayStation or Twitch service problems.
The stream is stuck on “preparing”
Check Twitch 2FA first. If it was not enabled, complete the setup in Twitch’s security settings, then sign in again on the PlayStation. If the problem continues, unlink Twitch and link it again.
The account will not link or the broadcast will not start
- Confirm that Twitch 2FA is active.
- Check PlayStation Network status and Twitch service status.
- Update PS5 or PS4 system software.
- Test the console’s internet connection.
- Unlink Twitch, restart the console, and relink the intended account.
- On PS5, review Console Sharing and Offline Play and consider restoring licenses.
- If earlier steps fail, use PlayStation’s Safe Mode cache and database troubleshooting options.
PlayStation’s broadcast troubleshooting guide lists these recovery steps and additional account and service checks.

I linked the wrong Twitch account
On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Linked Services, select Twitch, choose Unlink Account, and confirm. Then link the intended account. On PS4, use Settings > Account Management > Linked Services > Twitch > Unlink, then repeat the linking process.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesViewers cannot hear me
- Unmute the microphone.
- Check that the correct microphone or headset is connected and selected.
- Enable microphone audio in broadcast settings.
- Check the game’s separate audio settings.
- If using party chat, verify that party members have permitted their voices to be shared.
Party chat is missing
Enable party audio in the broadcast settings and ask each participant to allow their voice to be shared. Party audio is not automatically included in every situation.
Viewers see a blank screen
Make sure a game is active and remember that non-game screens and certain protected game scenes may not be broadcast. A blank screen or restriction message can be normal when navigating away from gameplay or entering a blocked scene.
The stream disconnects or is unstable
Check PlayStation Network status, install current system software, and run the console’s internet connection test. If the issue persists, unlink and relink Twitch. On PS5, PlayStation also recommends reviewing Console Sharing and Offline Play, restoring licenses, and using Safe Mode cache or database tools when appropriate. Avoid relying on a single upload-speed number: actual stability depends on the service, network, console, and current conditions.
Do you need a capture card?
No—not for basic direct console broadcasting. PS5 and PS4 include a built-in Broadcast workflow that can send gameplay to Twitch with optional microphone, party audio, and camera support.

Native broadcasting is best for quick setup, beginners, and anyone without a computer. A capture card and computer become worthwhile when you need custom scenes, alerts, browser sources, advanced moderation, multiple sources, separate audio routing, more extensive recording controls, or a stream that combines console and PC content. That setup adds equipment, cables, software, and more possible failure points; it is an upgrade path rather than a prerequisite.
