To lock on in Ghost of Tsushima, open Options > Gameplay > Target Lock and choose a mode. In combat, press Up on the D-pad to lock onto an enemy, according to an independent control guide. The exact menu route and button are not documented in the official sources cited here, so check the game’s control mapping if they differ on your platform or setup.
Enable target lock in the settings
- Pause the game and open Options.
- Select Gameplay, then find Target Lock.
- Choose Toggle On or Swap on Defeat.
- During combat, press Up on the D-pad to lock onto an enemy, as reported by the GameSpew guide. If that input does not work, check the in-game control mapping.
PlayStation announced target lock as an option added in a 2021 update, rather than a feature available at the game’s original launch: “All players will receive a patch with some new accessibility options for alternate controller layouts, as well as the option to enable a target lock-on during combat.” The announcement confirms the update’s availability to all players covered by it, but does not specify the menu path or button input. The PC edition supports customizable mouse-and-keyboard controls as well as controllers, but the official pages cited here do not give a universal keyboard binding for target lock. The D-pad instruction is for a controller; on PC, check the controls shown in your setup rather than assuming a particular key.

Do not confuse Target Lock with Aim Assist. PlayStation describes Aim Assist on PC as improving aimed-attack accuracy by automatically targeting nearby enemies. It is separate from the combat target-lock setting. See PlayStation’s PC features page and PC support information.
