You can log in to Minecraft without typing a password if the Microsoft account you use for Minecraft has a passwordless sign-in method available. Depending on your account and device, that could be a passkey, Microsoft Authenticator, Windows Hello, or a physical security key. Minecraft does not have a separate passwordless login: you’re authenticating the Microsoft account that owns or provides access to the game.
What you need before signing in
Minecraft uses a Microsoft account for sign-in and services such as Marketplace, Realms, and multiplayer. Use the Microsoft account associated with your Minecraft access; signing in to a different account may not give you access to a game purchase. See Minecraft’s Microsoft account sign-in help.

Passwordless sign-in is an authentication method for that Microsoft account, not a way around account verification or ownership checks. If you have not set up a method, add one through your Microsoft account security settings or follow the setup prompts Microsoft provides. Which methods are available can vary by account and device.
Choose a passwordless sign-in method

Microsoft describes passkeys as “secure, phish-resistant replacements for your password.” That describes the credential type, not a guarantee that a passkey will be offered in every Minecraft sign-in prompt.

Sign in on your Minecraft platform
Minecraft Launcher on PC
- Open the Minecraft Launcher.
- Open the account dropdown and choose Log out.
- Select Microsoft Login.
- Enter the Microsoft account sign-in flow and choose a passwordless method offered for that account, then complete the on-screen verification.
Minecraft’s documented sign-out and sign-in steps are on its account sign-in instructions.
PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and mobile
- Open Minecraft and choose the Microsoft account sign-in option.
- If the game displays an alphanumeric code, keep the game open and note the code.
- On a phone or computer, visit aka.ms/remoteconnect, enter the code, and continue through the Microsoft sign-in prompt.
- Choose a passwordless method if the Microsoft account prompt offers one, then finish verification.
The code handoff is part of the documented flow for these platforms; the available passwordless method is determined by the Microsoft account sign-in page, not guaranteed by the Minecraft prompt.

Xbox
Use the Microsoft account profile signed in on the Xbox console and follow Minecraft’s sign-in prompts. Microsoft specifically says passwordless authentication is supported on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, but not Xbox 360. This is Microsoft’s account-level guidance, not a guarantee for every Minecraft version or sign-in situation.
If Minecraft still asks for a password or sign-in fails
- Check the account: Make sure you are signing in with the Microsoft account that owns or provides access to Minecraft.
- Look for another sign-in choice: Passwordless methods depend on what has been configured and what the account prompt presents. If the method you expected is absent, use another offered method or update the account’s security info.
- For PC or Xbox sign-in errors: Minecraft says signing in to the Xbox app first with the owning Microsoft account can sometimes resolve the problem; then retry Minecraft.
- If you cannot access the account: Start with Minecraft’s sign-in troubleshooting and Microsoft’s security-info guidance. If needed, use Microsoft’s account recovery resources linked from Minecraft’s sign-in help page.
Account recovery restores access through Microsoft’s verification process; it does not bypass proof that the account belongs to you or owns the game.

Passwordless sign-in is not the same as removing your password
You can use a passkey or another passwordless method without changing whether the Microsoft account still has a password. Microsoft separately documents an option to make an account passwordless. If you are considering that change, follow Microsoft’s instructions for going passwordless and make sure you have recovery methods you can still reach.
