To loop several Indian music videos in OBS, add the files to a VLC Video source playlist, turn on Loop Playlist, and leave Shuffle Playlist off if you want them to play in the order you chose. VLC must be installed for this source to work. Then connect OBS to an eligible YouTube channel using the event’s stream URL and key, and preview the broadcast before going live.
Choose the right OBS source
| What you want to play | OBS source | Repeat and order | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| One video file | Media Source | Enable its Loop option to repeat that file. | Built into OBS. |
| Several video files | VLC Video | Enable Loop Playlist; keep Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed order or on for randomized order. | VLC must be installed. OBS says 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. |
The steps below use files stored on your computer. A local folder is not a YouTube playlist URL. OBS’s documented VLC Video workflow lets you add media to a playlist; it does not establish that selecting a folder automatically imports every file or keeps the playlist synchronized when the folder changes.
Before you set up the broadcast
- Install compatible software: install OBS and VLC with matching architecture. For 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC so the VLC Video source is available. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Prepare your files: OBS lists common video formats including MP4, MKV, MOV, AVI, FLV, TS, GIF, and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. That list is not a guarantee that every codec and container combination will decode on every computer.
- Confirm YouTube live access: YouTube’s getting-started guidance requires channel verification and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check current eligibility at YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started page.
- Check broadcast rights: having a video file or being able to play it in OBS does not give you the right to rebroadcast its music or video. Review the rights section below before scheduling a stream.
Add and loop the videos in OBS
- Open OBS and select the scene that will show the videos. In the Sources box, select +, then choose VLC Video. If VLC Video is missing, confirm VLC is installed and that its 32-bit or 64-bit architecture matches OBS.
- In the VLC Video source properties, add the video files you want to play to the playlist. Arrange them in the desired sequence if you want a fixed running order. Do not assume that choosing a folder imports all its contents.
- Turn on Loop Playlist to replay the playlist when it reaches the end. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for the listed order; turn it on only if you want randomized playback. OBS documents Loop Playlist as on by default and Shuffle Playlist as off by default, but check the actual source properties rather than relying on defaults.
- Confirm the source is visible in the scene and fit it to the canvas as needed. Play the scene and watch the OBS audio meter to check that audio is reaching the scene; playback options alone do not guarantee that your audio is routed or balanced as intended.
- Save the scene collection and test the files in OBS before the scheduled broadcast. If you later add or remove videos, update the source playlist yourself and test the revised sequence.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open or create the live event in Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder workflow provides the stream URL and stream key for the event; follow the current YouTube encoder setup instructions.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the event’s stream settings as prompted. If OBS offers an account connection or a stream-key method, use the method supported by your current OBS and YouTube interfaces. Do not show the key in a screen capture or share it: treat it like a password.
- Start the OBS preview or stream connection and check the YouTube Live Control Room preview before making the event public. Confirm the expected picture and audio, and verify the event’s visibility and schedule in YouTube Studio.
- During the broadcast, monitor both OBS and Live Control Room for audio/video quality and interruptions. YouTube recommends upload capacity with 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate; check the recommendation in its live encoder settings guide. A playlist looping locally does not ensure an uninterrupted internet connection or a successful YouTube event.
Protect music-video rights before going live
Indian music videos can involve rights held by artists, record labels, publishers, and other participants. YouTube’s live-stream terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Read the applicable YouTube live-stream terms and make sure your permissions cover the live use you plan.
YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content. It may replace a stream with a placeholder image, temporarily interrupt it, or terminate the broadcast. Even licensed material can be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Resolve rights and any required allowlisting with the relevant rights holders before going live; OBS playback settings cannot prevent a rights claim or interruption. See YouTube’s guidance on copyrighted content in live streams.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| VLC Video does not appear in the Sources menu | VLC is missing or its architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC; if OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC. Reopen OBS and check the source menu again. |
| A file will not play or has no sound | The file’s codec/container combination may not decode on this machine, or the scene’s audio may not be reaching the expected output. | Test the file in OBS, try a format and codec your setup supports, and inspect the OBS audio meter and monitoring/output configuration. |
| The videos stop after one pass | Loop Playlist is off, or the source is not the VLC Video playlist you intended. | Open the source properties, confirm the correct files are listed, and turn on Loop Playlist. |
| The videos play in an unexpected order | Shuffle Playlist is on, or the playlist order differs from what you expected. | Turn Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed sequence and review the listed order. |
| YouTube does not receive the OBS stream | The event’s stream settings may be incorrect, the key may not match, or the channel may not be eligible to stream. | Verify channel access, select the correct event, recheck the stream URL/key in OBS and Live Control Room, and keep the key private. |
| The broadcast is interrupted after it begins | Possible causes include an unstable connection, inadequate upload capacity, or detected third-party content. | Check OBS and Live Control Room status, ensure upload headroom meets YouTube’s recommendation, and address rights or Content ID allowlisting with rights holders. |
