What “4-star sandwich” means
This is a cooperative Blueberry Quest in The Indigo Disk, not a star level in the regular sandwich recipe book. The usual recipe categories are Normal, Great, Ultra, and Master. The quest requires the expansion; owning only the base game is not enough. Game8’s guide describes the quest recipe, while Bulbapedia’s recipe reference distinguishes the standard tiers.

This recipe is reported to make the four-star sandwich without Herba Mystica. The method is from Game8’s guide, updated December 17, 2023; it is not presented as an official Nintendo recipe.
Make the sandwich together
- Form a Union Circle. Join or host one with at least two players. If more players are in the group, have every member participate so the associated group quest registers for everyone.
- Start a picnic. Open the main menu and set up a picnic, then interact with the table and select sandwich making. See Nintendo Life’s sandwich guide for the standard picnic flow.
- Contribute the ingredients. Player 1 adds 6 hamburgers and 4 curry powders. Player 2 adds 2 cherry tomatoes, 3 ketchups, and 1 cream cheese.
- Stack carefully and finish. Keep the ingredients on the bread as you assemble it. Game8 says the recipe can still work if one cherry tomato falls, but advises avoiding further drops. Confirm that the finished sandwich is four stars and that the quest registers.
Alternative: use all five Herba Mystica flavors
Game8 also describes a route using salty, sour, sweet, spicy, and bitter Herba Mystica. It characterizes that option as less efficient and more time-consuming than the two-player recipe. Choose it only if that ingredient set suits your group better; the no-Herba recipe avoids spending those rare items.

Do not confuse the quest with ordinary sandwich effects
Regular sandwiches provide meal powers based on their ingredients. Nintendo Life reports that these powers last 30 minutes and do not stack, and a sandwich can have up to three powers. Serebii’s sandwich reference notes that Sparkling Power requires two Herba Mystica. That shiny-hunting mechanic is separate from the four-star group quest, and no specific meal power should be assumed for the quest recipe.
