Craftoria’s documented baseline is 3 GB minimum and 5 GB maximum heap, while larger groups may need substantially more. Every player must use the same Craftoria, Minecraft, and NeoForge versions as the server.

What Craftoria is and what you are installing
Craftoria is a Minecraft 1.21 modpack maintained by TeamAOF. It is not enough to copy a client instance onto a computer and expect it to behave as a dedicated server. The client profile and the separate Craftoria server pack contain different startup files and installation steps.

The server configuration checked for this guide uses NeoForge loader 21.1.249, the 1.21.1 line, and the NeoForge --installServer argument. CurseForge lists a Craftoria Server 1.37.0 file for Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge in a search result dated September 13, 2026. Pack files change, so select the current compatible server-pack release when you begin rather than assuming 1.37.0 is still the newest file.
Craftoria is a large pack: a hosting page describes more than 500 mods and over 2,000 quests. That scale affects startup time, world generation, storage, and memory use. Treat the official 3 GB/5 GB values as the supplied configuration’s starting point, not as a promise that every world and group will run smoothly at those limits.

Choose self-hosting or managed hosting first
Self-hosting gives you direct control over the files and costs no hosting subscription, but you must maintain Java, NeoForge, firewall rules, backups, updates, and restarts. A managed service performs much of that operational work for a recurring fee. The right choice depends more on your tolerance for maintenance and network setup than on the modpack itself.
| Decision factor | Self-hosted on your PC or dedicated machine | Managed Craftoria hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | Usually limited to hardware, storage, and your existing internet connection; no hosting plan is required. | No server hardware to buy, but you pay a recurring plan charge. Current prices and Craftoria availability vary by provider and region. |
| File and mod control | Full access to world files, configuration, backups, scripts, and additional mods. | Control depends on the provider’s panel and file access. Confirm that custom configuration and backups are supported before ordering. |
| Networking | You must make the server reachable, normally through local firewall and router configuration. The exact port-forwarding process depends on your router and internet service. | The host supplies a public endpoint, so players normally do not need to reach your home network. |
| CPU and RAM headroom | Limited by the machine’s free resources. The supplied Craftoria launch configuration starts at 3 GB and caps at 5 GB unless you edit it. | You choose a plan with a stated memory allocation. CurseForge’s hosted flow gives examples of 4 GB, 8 GB, and 12 GB plans. |
| Latency | Players near your home connection may get good latency; distant players depend on your upload route and ISP. | You can usually select a region, allowing the group to choose a geographically sensible data center. |
| Restarts and updates | You schedule and perform them yourself, including checking pack compatibility and preserving backups. | Panels commonly offer scheduled restarts and easier file replacement, but automation differs by provider. |
| Inviting friends | You send the address and port and help each player install the exact matching profile. | CurseForge documents shareable server links or import codes that can install the matching profile and connection information in its app. |
For a small group with a spare computer and someone comfortable troubleshooting, self-hosting is practical. Choose managed hosting when the server must stay online while your computer is off, your upload connection is restrictive, or nobody wants to maintain Java, networking, and backups.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minutePrerequisites for a self-hosted server
- A computer that can remain online while people play, with adequate free RAM, CPU capacity, and disk space for the modpack, logs, and world backups.
- The current CurseForge App and Git for the documented client-instance setup.
- The current Craftoria server-pack file for the same Minecraft and NeoForge line as the clients.
- The Java runtime required by the selected NeoForge release. Use the runtime version specified by that release’s documentation; do not assume a Java installation from another game is suitable.
- Permission to run downloaded batch files and Java programs on the host operating system.
- Administrator access to configure the local firewall and, if needed, the router.
- A backup destination on a different disk or machine. A modded world is not protected merely because the server starts successfully.
Install the Craftoria client profile
Do this on each player’s computer before attempting a connection. TeamAOF’s documented client workflow uses the CurseForge App and Git rather than importing an arbitrary zip.
- Install the CurseForge App and Git.
- Locate the CurseForge Minecraft
Instancesdirectory used by your installation. If you changed the app’s Minecraft storage location, use that configured path instead of a default folder. - Clone or download the Craftoria repository into the
Instancesdirectory, keeping the repository’s Craftoria folder intact. - From that Craftoria folder, run
InstanceSyncSetup.bat. Allow the script to finish before opening the launcher. - Open or restart CurseForge. Verify that a Craftoria profile appears in the Minecraft instances list.
- Launch the profile once. This lets the client create its files and exposes missing-library or loader errors before you add a server address.
Do not use this client folder as the dedicated server directory. The server pack has its own files and loader installation sequence.
Install the dedicated Craftoria server
1. Download a matching server pack
Open the Craftoria files page in CurseForge and select the current server-pack release that explicitly targets Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge. Check the release number, Minecraft version, and loader before downloading. A client profile and a server pack from different releases can contain incompatible mods even when both are called Craftoria.

2. Create a clean server directory
Make a new directory dedicated to this world, separate from your client Instances folder and separate from any other Minecraft server. Extract the server-pack archive there without nesting its contents inside an accidental second folder. Keeping a clean directory makes upgrades and backups easier.
3. Install NeoForge with the supplied argument
The official server configuration invokes NeoForge’s installer with --installServer and names loader version 21.1.249. Run the installer from the new server directory using the Java executable required by that NeoForge release. The command pattern is:
java -jar neoforge-installer.jar --installServer
Use the actual installer filename included with the selected server pack in place of neoforge-installer.jar. If the pack includes a launch script or generated launch arguments, prefer those supplied files rather than inventing a different classpath. A successful installation creates the NeoForge server libraries and launch files needed for the next start.
4. Apply the pack’s launch settings
Use the generated launch arguments or the pack’s supplied launcher. The checked configuration sets Xms to 3G and Xmx to 5G. Xms is the initial Java heap and Xmx is the maximum heap; both values must fit within the host’s available memory after the operating system and other applications are accounted for.
Do not allocate all physical RAM to Java. Leave room for the operating system, file cache, monitoring tools, and any desktop session. If the server reports that it cannot reserve the heap, lower the allocation or close other applications before changing anything else.

5. Start once and accept the EULA
Start the server with the generated launcher. On the first run it normally creates eula.txt and stops. Open that file, read the Minecraft EULA, and change the relevant setting to accept it only if you agree to the terms. Start the server again and watch the console for a message indicating that it has finished loading and is ready for connections.
6. Stop it cleanly before editing files
Use the server console’s stop command rather than closing the window or killing Java. A clean stop flushes region data and reduces the chance of a corrupted world. Edit configuration files only while the server is stopped unless a specific setting is documented as live-editable.
How much RAM does a Craftoria server need?
Use player count as a starting estimate, then adjust for exploration, automated farms, chunk-loading systems, and additional mods. The following figures come from a hosting provider’s guidance, not a measured guarantee for every Craftoria world.
| Concurrent players | Provider guidance | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| 1–5 | 6–8 GB | More than the supplied 5 GB maximum may be useful when several players generate new terrain simultaneously. |
| 5–15 | 10–12 GB | Allow additional headroom for exploration, bases with many machines, and simultaneous chunk loading. |
| 15+ | 12–16 GB | Expect to tune view and simulation distances, monitor tick performance, and verify CPU capacity as well as memory. |
These ranges are not a license to solve every lag problem by adding RAM. A server can pause because the CPU is overloaded, storage is slow, a single mod or machine is expensive, or players are generating many chunks at once. Increase the heap only when monitoring shows memory pressure and the machine has capacity to provide it.

- The Java process approaches its maximum heap repeatedly and garbage-collection pauses become frequent.
- Startup fails with an inability to reserve or allocate the requested heap.
- Logs show out-of-memory errors while the world is loading or players are exploring.
- The operating system begins swapping heavily because the combined Java heap and other processes exceed physical RAM.
Capture logs and note what players were doing when the problem occurred. If memory is not near the configured maximum, investigate CPU load, disk latency, network delay, and a problematic mod instead of raising Xmx blindly.

Configure the world and network
Server properties
After the first successful start, stop the server and review server.properties. Set the world name, message of the day, difficulty, player limit, view distance, simulation distance, and other options for your group. Higher distances increase work for every player; begin conservatively if the host is modest and raise them after observing performance.
Keep the server’s authentication and online-mode settings aligned with the way your players authenticate. Do not disable account verification as a casual troubleshooting step: it can allow impersonation and changes the security model of the server.
Firewall and router access
The official configuration identifies the loader and memory settings but does not document a universal port-forwarding recipe. Router interfaces, carrier-grade NAT, and ISP policies differ, so the exact procedure depends on your equipment and connection.
- Allow the Java server process through the host operating system’s firewall on the server’s listening port.
- Determine the server’s local IP address and reserve it in the router if possible, so a DHCP change does not invalidate your rule.
- If friends are outside your home network, forward the Minecraft server port from the router to that local IP. Use the port shown in
server.propertiesrather than assuming a value that another server used. - Give friends your public address and port only after testing from outside your home network. A player connected to the same LAN may need to use the local address instead.
- If the router has no public IPv4 address because of carrier-grade NAT, ordinary port forwarding may not work. Use a provider or network design that supplies reachable connectivity instead of repeatedly changing the same rule.
Never publish your public address together with administrative credentials. Keep console access restricted to the host machine or a properly secured remote-management method.
Let friends join the Craftoria world
- Send each player the exact Craftoria release, Minecraft version, and NeoForge loader version used by the server.
- Have them complete the CurseForge and Git client setup, run
InstanceSyncSetup.bat, and launch the profile once. - Provide the reachable server address and port. Players on the same local network may use the server’s local address; internet players use the public address or managed-host endpoint.
- Require everyone to connect with the same mod list and configuration. A client that has added, removed, or updated one mod may fail during the handshake or behave unpredictably after joining.
- Keep one operator online for the first connection so you can read the server console and identify whether a failure is caused by authentication, networking, a missing mod, or a version mismatch.
CurseForge also documents shareable server links or import codes for supported hosted setups. When a friend uses one, the CurseForge App can install the matching profile and connection details; the server owner still remains responsible for keeping the server online and updated.

Troubleshoot the problems that stop most Craftoria servers
The profile does not appear in CurseForge
- Confirm that the repository folder is inside the app’s actual Minecraft
Instancesdirectory. - Run
InstanceSyncSetup.batfrom the Craftoria folder and restart CurseForge. - Check that the app is pointed at the same Minecraft installation location you used for the clone.
The server exits during installation
- Verify that you ran the NeoForge installer with
--installServerfrom the server directory. - Check the Java runtime required by the selected NeoForge release.
- Re-extract the server pack into a clean directory if files were nested or partially overwritten.
- Read the first error in the log, not only the final shutdown message; later errors are often consequences.
Players receive a mod-list or handshake error
- Compare the server-pack release and client profile release character for character.
- Confirm Minecraft is on the 1.21.1 line and NeoForge matches the server’s loader.
- Remove manually added client mods that are not part of the server pack, then retry.
- Regenerate neither side blindly. Preserve the world and configuration while you identify the differing file.
The server starts but friends cannot connect
- Test locally first. If a local player cannot join, inspect the server bind address, port, firewall, and console errors.
- If local players can join but internet players cannot, recheck the router’s destination IP and port, the host firewall, and whether the ISP uses carrier-grade NAT.
- Ensure friends are using the public address rather than a private address such as
192.168.x.xwhen they are outside your network.
Players experience pauses or rubber-banding
- Record memory use, CPU load, tick time, and disk activity during the pause.
- Reduce view and simulation distances before adding more mods or changing unrelated settings.
- Investigate newly generated regions, large automation builds, and chunk-loading blocks.
- Raise the heap only when the evidence points to memory pressure and the host has spare physical RAM.
Backups, updates, and safe administration
Back up the world before every change
Stop the server cleanly, copy the world directory and important configuration files to a separate destination, and label the backup with the Craftoria and Minecraft versions. Keep more than one generation so a corrupted or unwanted update does not erase your only recovery point. Test restoring a copy periodically; a backup that has never been opened is only an assumption.
Update in a staging copy
- Record the current server-pack release, NeoForge version, Java runtime, and launch arguments.
- Back up the live world and configuration.
- Install the candidate pack in a separate directory or test machine.
- Copy a backup of the world into the test environment and start it while nobody is playing.
- Check startup logs, quest data, player inventories, major machines, and a few existing regions.
- Schedule downtime, replace the live files only after the test succeeds, and retain the previous installation for rollback.
Never mix a newer client with an older server or update only a subset of mods. Wait for a server-pack release that defines the compatible set.
Use managed hosting when maintenance is the real obstacle
CurseForge’s official hosted flow is designed for people who want to avoid local Java, file-transfer, networking, and restart work. The documented sequence is to choose a modpack with a matching server pack, choose a plan, select a region, enter server details, and purchase. Example plans in its guide include 4 GB, 8 GB, and 12 GB allocations, and the service is described as available for game versions above 1.20.1.
Before paying, confirm that the provider currently supports the Craftoria release you intend to run, offers a region acceptable to your players, exposes backups and file access, and permits the configuration changes your group needs. A plan’s advertised RAM does not by itself guarantee smooth performance; CPU share, storage, restart policy, and support for the exact pack version matter too.
Hosted share links or import codes can reduce setup mistakes for friends because the CurseForge App installs the matching profile and connection information. They do not remove the need to coordinate updates: the owner should announce maintenance, preserve backups, and ensure the server and clients move to the same release together.
Final setup checklist
- Current Craftoria server pack selected for Minecraft 1.21.1 and the matching NeoForge line.
- NeoForge installed with
--installServer; the checked configuration uses loader21.1.249. - Java runtime meets the selected NeoForge release’s requirement.
- Launch settings leave enough physical RAM for the operating system; the supplied baseline is
Xms 3GandXmx 5G. - EULA accepted after reading it, and
server.propertiesconfigured while the server is stopped. - Firewall and, where necessary, router access tested from the same network and from outside it.
- Every player has the identical Craftoria, Minecraft, NeoForge, and mod configuration.
- A clean backup exists before the first group session and before every update.
- Console logs, memory use, and tick performance can be inspected when players report lag.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I run the Craftoria server and client on the same computer?
Yes, provided the machine has enough physical memory and CPU capacity for both Minecraft clients and the dedicated server. Leave headroom for the operating system; the server’s 3G minimum and 5G maximum do not include the RAM used by a playing client.
Is Craftoria Server 1.37.0 the version I should install?
It was listed for Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge in a September 13, 2026 search result, but releases change. Select the current file and make sure every client uses that same release before connecting.
Why does adding RAM not always fix Craftoria lag?
Lag can come from CPU saturation, slow storage, network delay, expensive machines, or rapid chunk generation. Measure memory, CPU, disk, and tick behavior during the pause before increasing the Java heap.
