To make a Roblox game pass, publish your experience, create a pass for it in Creator Hub, then use its ID and Roblox’s MarketplaceService APIs to offer it and grant its benefit. A pass is a one-time purchase for a lasting privilege; for repeat purchases such as currency or consumables, use a developer product instead.
Before you create a pass
The experience must be published and accessible on Roblox before you can create a pass for it. Roblox describes passes as a one-time Robux purchase for special privileges in an experience, such as restricted-area access or a permanent power-up. Creating the pass does not build its gameplay benefit: you must implement that behavior in your experience. See Roblox’s passes documentation.
Choose the right purchase type

If the benefit is intended to be purchased again, use a developer product rather than a pass.
Create the pass in Creator Hub
- Publish the experience and make sure it is accessible on Roblox.
- In Creator Hub, select Creations, then select the experience.
- Open Monetization > Passes and choose Create pass.
- Upload an icon, enter a name and description, choose a category, and create the pass. The icon can be up to 512 × 512 pixels and must be a JPG, PNG, or BMP. Keep important details toward the center because the icon is displayed with a circular crop.
Find the pass ID
Your scripts need the pass’s asset ID. In Monetization > Passes, hover over the pass thumbnail, open its three-dot menu, and select Copy Asset ID. Use that ID in your experience scripts.

Add a purchase prompt and grant the benefit
Roblox’s documented in-experience purchase flow uses MarketplaceService. The purchase prompt and the gameplay privilege are separate: prompting lets a player buy the pass, while your server-side code checks ownership and applies the benefit.
Set up the purchase flow
- Use
GetProductInfo()withEnum.InfoType.GamePassto retrieve pass information, including whether it is for sale. - Before showing the prompt, use
UserOwnsGamePassAsync()to check whether the player already owns the pass. This avoids asking an existing owner to buy it again. - When an eligible player chooses to buy, call
PromptGamePassPurchase(). - Listen for
PromptGamePassPurchaseFinishedto handle the prompt’s result.
Apply privileges on the server
Put privilege handling in ServerScriptService. Check ownership when a player joins so existing owners receive the benefit, and handle a successful purchase prompt so a new owner can receive it during the session. The pass itself does not automatically create a VIP room, power-up, avatar item, or other gameplay feature; your server-side experience logic must implement and grant whatever the pass promises. Make the pass available for purchase
For in-experience sales, use the purchase prompt in your game. To list the pass outside the experience as well, go to Creator Hub > Monetization > Shop and mark the pass Listed. Add a custom icon so players can recognize it on external surfaces.
Set a price and display the current price
Managed Pricing is enabled by default for new and existing passes. Roblox adjusts regional prices based on a player’s economic location, which may differ from the location on the player’s account. A managed regional price cannot be higher than the global default or more than 70% below it. For example, a 100 Robux global default can have a documented regional lower bound of 30 Robux. If your in-game interface shows a price, retrieve current product information at runtime instead of hard-coding the global price. A fixed number in your UI can become inaccurate when the player sees a different regional price.
Roblox’s monetization overview says creators receive 70% of Robux spent when selling their own passes in their game. It also states that when a creator sells another creator’s pass in their experience, the seller receives a 10% affiliate fee and the original creator receives 60%. These are Roblox platform terms, not a cash payout or a guarantee of DevEx eligibility; consult the current monetization overview for applicable terms.

Important limitation for cross-game pass sales
Roblox’s pass documentation contains the notice, “Starting May 30, 2026, cross-game pass sales will be disabled.” That date has passed, but the notice alone does not establish whether the change was implemented or superseded. If your design depends on selling another creator’s pass in your experience, check the current Creator Hub guidance before relying on that flow.
Using a pass as a randomized reward
If you plan to award a pass through a randomized reward, Roblox says to review its Randomized Virtual Item Policy. The pass documentation points creators to that policy; check its current requirements before building the reward system.
