Before you start
PngTuber Maker is a Windows application from YiMeta. Its Steam listing describes an avatar that switches between uploaded PNG expression images in response to detected sound. The stated minimum computer requirements are 64-bit Windows 7 or later, an Intel Core i5-4570 3.20GHz or equivalent, a GeForce GTX560 or equivalent, and broadband internet. Steam’s client has required Windows 10 or later since January 1, 2024, so use Windows 10 or later if you plan to run the current Steam client.
- At least two PNG images showing different expressions.
- A microphone for sound detection setup and testing.

The listing does not state required image dimensions, resolution, file size, canvas alignment, or transparency settings. It also does not establish a numeric threshold to use, so treat the threshold as something to adjust and test on your own setup.
Make the minimum usable avatar
1. Prepare two expression images
Create or export at least two PNG pictures of the same avatar in different expressions. A simple starting set is a neutral or closed-mouth image and a speaking or open-mouth image. The listing requires two different-expression PNGs but does not prescribe those exact expressions; keeping the character positioned consistently is a practical way to make a switch look intentional.

2. Upload the PNGs in PngTuber Maker
Open the app and upload the prepared images as avatar expression states. YiMeta’s description says the software detects surrounding sound and switches between the uploaded emotion images. Interface labels and import steps may change, and the listing does not provide a detailed screen-by-screen guide.
3. Select a microphone and adjust the threshold
Connect or select the microphone you intend to use, then adjust the sound threshold. Speak into that microphone and watch whether the avatar switches to its speaking image. If ordinary speech does not trigger the change, adjust the threshold and test again; if background noise triggers it constantly, adjust in the other direction. The listing calls for threshold adjustment and a speaking-effect test but gives no numeric setting or calibration procedure.

4. Test in the conditions you plan to use
Try speaking at your normal distance and volume, then pause and listen for room noise or input from other sources. This helps you judge whether the selected microphone and threshold behave appropriately for your setup. The product listing does not document additional noise filtering controls, so do not assume the app provides them.
Add more states if you want richer reactions
Two images are enough for the basic voice-reactive effect. YiMeta says additional state pictures can make the speaking effect more realistic. The listing also names emotion-switch animation, backgrounds, and avatar accessories. These are optional: start with the two-image setup, confirm that sound switching works, and add states only if you want more expressive changes.

Use the avatar in a stream or on your desktop
Desktop export
The Steam listing says the avatar can be exported to the desktop. It does not explain the export format or further steps for placing the exported result in a particular streaming application, so consult the current in-app options and the destination software’s own instructions.
Virtual camera
The listing also says PngTuber Maker can be used through a virtual camera for a video stream. Choose the app’s virtual-camera output in the software where you want the avatar to appear, if that software detects it. The listing does not give an OBS-specific configuration sequence or specify exact source labels.

Common problems and what to check
- The avatar does not switch when you speak: confirm the intended microphone is selected and receiving your voice, then adjust the sound threshold and test again.
- The avatar stays in its speaking state: check whether background sound is above the threshold; adjust and retest in the room where you plan to use it.
- The expression change looks misaligned: review how your PNG images are positioned relative to one another. The listing does not state a canvas or alignment specification, so it cannot provide a required pixel size.
- The avatar is not available in the streaming app: verify that you selected the virtual-camera output route and check the other app’s camera-source instructions. PngTuber Maker’s listing does not document OBS-specific steps.
Price and availability
YiMeta’s Steam listing describes PngTuber Maker as free “for the time being,” while a developer response says the price may rise as new content and features ship. Price and Early Access status can change, so check the current Steam listing before installing.
