The simplest way to make a Pride flag in Minecraft is to build its colored stripes from blocks on a flat wall, floor, or panel. For a smaller flag you can carry or display, use a banner and loom—but vanilla banner patterns may not reproduce every stripe layout. First choose the Pride flag design you want: there is more than one.
Build a large Pride flag from blocks
- Choose the flag design. Decide which colors and stripe order you want before placing blocks; “Pride flag” can refer to different designs.
- Choose a flat surface and size. A wall, floor, or freestanding panel works. Pick a width and height that leave each stripe easy to see.
- Lay the stripes from top to bottom. Use blocks in the colors of your chosen design, placing one horizontal band at a time. Stained glass is one option: Mojang’s Pride build examples include stained-glass details in Pride colors, including a rainbow. Mojang’s Community Team Builds: Pride shows examples, but does not prescribe dimensions or a block recipe.
- Add the display details, if you want them. Once the colored field is complete, add a border, pole, or surrounding build.
Make a banner with a loom
A banner is a compact alternative, but it uses geometric patterns rather than letting you place each stripe as a block. The loom has slots for a banner and dye, plus an optional banner-pattern item slot; choose one of the patterns shown in its interface. You can put a patterned banner back in the loom with another dye to layer another design. See Mojang’s loom guide for the interface and loom recipe: two planks and two string.
- Make or obtain a banner. A third-party guide for Java Edition 26.3 gives the recipe as six wool of one color and one stick. Its recipe details are version-specific; do not assume they apply identically to Bedrock or other Java versions. MC Toolkit’s banner guide
- Open the loom. Put the banner and a dye into their slots. Add a banner-pattern item only if you want to use one.
- Select a pattern and take the banner. The available choices depend on the banner, dye, and patterns offered by the loom.
- Repeat to layer designs. Put the banner back with another dye and select another pattern. Plan the order and colors before using dyes, since layers build on the existing design.
The Java 26.3 guide cited above reports a six-pattern-layer limit. That can make a multi-stripe Pride design difficult or impossible to reproduce exactly on one vanilla banner; use a block-built flag if the full stripe layout matters.
Optional: add Pride-specific patterns with a data pack
The community-made Pride Banner Patterns data pack on Modrinth listing says it adds 50+ patterns and lists compatibility with Java Edition 26.1–26.2. It is not part of vanilla Minecraft. Check the listing against your game version before installing; compatibility can change, and the listed range does not establish support for other versions or Bedrock.

Which method should you use?
