To make a fireplace loop that feels continuous on YouTube Live, first edit and inspect the clip’s actual end-to-start join, then repeat the finished file in OBS and connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream. OBS can repeat a file, but it cannot fix a visible or audible jump in the file itself. Test the exported loop and the live preview before broadcasting.
1. Choose footage and audio you have the right to use
Use fireplace footage and sound you recorded or are licensed to use. Keep the intended stream’s aspect ratio and frame rate in mind as you edit. If you plan to monetize the channel, rights are only one concern: YouTube’s monetization policy also applies to live streams and assesses the channel’s originality and authenticity.
YouTube’s policy update of July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and says repetitive or mass-produced material can be ineligible for monetization. A channel made up of nearly interchangeable ambient loops may face scrutiny; no one can predict a particular channel review. Permission to use footage does not by itself establish eligibility under the separate reused-content policy. Make your authorship and meaningful creative contribution clear. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
2. Find and refine the loop point
Choose a section with a plausible match
Compare the candidate ending with the opening. Look for similar flame shapes, brightness, camera position and ambient sound. A fire is constantly changing, so an identical frame may not exist; aim for a transition that is unobtrusive rather than claiming mathematical sameness.

Edit the join and listen for audio problems
Try a clean cut or, if it improves the transition, a short overlap or crossfade. There is no single crossfade duration that works for every fireplace recording. Replay the end-to-start join repeatedly in your editor or preview player. Watch for a sudden change in flame position or brightness, and listen for a repeated crackle, silence, click or abrupt loudness shift. Inspect the exported file itself: the edit preview is not proof that the final encode retained a clean seam.
Export a file your streaming setup can handle
Export at the frame size and frame rate suited to the planned stream. Preserve source quality where practical, but use a format the computer can decode reliably while OBS is encoding and uploading. OBS Media Source supports local formats including MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM; see the OBS Media Sources documentation for its supported workflow.

3. Repeat the video in OBS
For one loop file: Media Source
- Open OBS and select the scene that will carry the fireplace video.
- In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Name the source, then choose the exported local video file.
- In the source properties, enable Loop. OBS documents this option as making the file play again when playback completes; it is off by default.
- Confirm that the video fills the canvas as intended and that its audio is present at a sensible level. Preview the file through at least one end-to-start transition.
The Loop control repeats the file; it does not repair a discontinuity encoded into it.
For several clips: VLC Video playlist
If you want multiple clips to play as a playlist, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed for this source type; OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Choose this approach only if you need a playlist rather than a single repeated file. Both source options and their loop behavior are described in the OBS documentation.

OBS scenes and sources control the stream composition. A scene transition such as Fade or Cut changes between scenes; it does not smooth the end-to-start join inside a single looping clip. See the OBS Studio Overview Guide.
4. Connect OBS to YouTube Live
Check channel eligibility early
YouTube’s live-stream setup information says the channel must be verified, must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the creator must be at least 16. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned broadcast. Confirm current eligibility on YouTube’s live-streaming setup page.

Create the encoder stream and protect the key
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s streaming configuration. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the incoming video to appear in YouTube’s Live Control Room preview.
- Check the preview and stream health, then start the broadcast from YouTube when ready. YouTube recommends checking the preview before going live.
Use YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current sequence and interface. Its guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a longer broadcast will be archived in the same way.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.5. Choose encoder settings and protect upload stability
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest with H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS. The bitrate depends on resolution, frame rate and codec; for H.264 at 1080p30, its current table lists 5 Mbps as the minimum and 10 Mbps as the recommended bitrate. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular computer or internet connection will sustain the stream.

Do not choose a higher bitrate or resolution just for the number if your connection cannot sustain it. A lower motion frame rate may look natural for a slow fireplace scene, but YouTube’s cited guidance does not prescribe a specific frame rate for fireplace video; judge it from your own footage and test. YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple playback formats, so your ingest settings should balance source quality with reliable upload capacity. Check the current YouTube live encoder settings before streaming because platform guidance can change.
YouTube advises leaving upload headroom: its streaming tips recommend upload bandwidth 20% above the total bitrate. Test over the same connection and with the same stream settings you intend to use; a brief speed-test result alone does not establish sustained stability. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
6. Test the whole chain before going public
- Replay the exported file’s end-to-start join and listen through headphones or speakers for clicks, repeated sounds, silence or a level jump.
- Run OBS long enough to see the clip loop, then check YouTube’s Live Control Room preview for motion, framing and audio.
- Check stream health and whether the upload connection has enough headroom for the configured total bitrate.
- Test audio and movement similar to the intended stream. YouTube explicitly recommends testing both before a live broadcast.
- Keep the stream key private; if it is exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube’s controls rather than continuing to use a compromised key.
7. Troubleshoot common loop and stream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| A visible flash or jump at the repeat | The first and last frames differ in flame position, brightness or camera view; the export may also have altered the edit. | Revisit the loop point, try a different cut or a short crossfade, export again and inspect the final file’s join. |
| A click, silence or repeated crackle at the seam | The audio edit does not join cleanly, or a transient sound repeats conspicuously. | Listen to the actual exported file at the join; adjust the audio edit or choose a section with a more compatible ambient sound. |
| The video stops instead of repeating | Media Source’s Loop option is off, or the wrong source is being used. | Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a playlist, check Loop Playlist on VLC Video. |
| VLC Video is unavailable in OBS | VLC is not installed, or the installed VLC architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC; OBS specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS. |
| YouTube does not receive the OBS stream | The stream URL or key may be incorrect, or the stream has not been started from OBS. | Compare the OBS connection details with the current stream in Live Control Room. Keep the key confidential and use the preview to verify incoming video. |
| Preview is unstable or stream health is poor | The upload connection may not sustain the configured total bitrate, or the selected settings may be unnecessarily demanding. | Check the current YouTube bitrate guidance for the selected codec, resolution and frame rate; lower the ingest demand if needed and leave the recommended upload headroom. |
| Live streaming is not available on the channel | Eligibility requirements may not be met, or first-time activation may still be processing. | Check verification and restriction status and enable live streaming ahead of time; initial activation can take up to 24 hours. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the finished recording to loop without leaving a computer and home connection running, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a camera. Your computer can be off while it runs, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Every slot supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card.
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. Visit StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.
