Multiplayer adds another variable: server software can alter or disable duplication behavior. A design that works in a single-player world may not work on a server, and the server operator’s rules may prohibit its use even when the mechanics allow it.

A reliable schematic needs more than a list of familiar components. It must specify the tested Minecraft version and server type, block positions and orientations, whether the machine moves or stays in place, and the activation and reset sequence. Before following any schematic, look for a guide that names its tested version and environment. Confirm its components and orientation, how it is triggered and reset, and where it sends the primed TNT. Do not treat a design tested in vanilla single-player as proof that it works on a modified multiplayer server.

Paper documents a configuration option named allow-piston-duplication that affects TNT, carpet, and rail duplication. Its global configuration reference lists false as the default. Paper’s bug-fix documentation says the option can restore TNT duplication and explains its rationale: “Because TNT duping is considered a form of automated mining and not a resource dupe, we have provided an option to restore it.” PaperMC: Global configuration and PaperMC: Bug fixes.

Paper labels these settings unsupported and warns they may have unintended effects or change or be removed. Server owners should check the documentation for their installed Paper version and the actual server configuration. Players should ask the operator whether duplication is enabled and allowed; changing server settings is an operator decision, not a universal fix for a broken machine. What to check before using one on a server
- Edition and version: Confirm the design is for Java Edition and names the Minecraft version it was tested on.
- Server software: Find out whether the world runs vanilla or modified server software such as Paper.
- Configuration and rules: Ask the operator whether the relevant duplication behavior is enabled and whether TNT dupers are permitted.
- Build-specific instructions: Use a schematic that gives exact block placement, orientation, activation, reset, and output direction for that environment.
