You can’t make a Wither Storm in unmodified Minecraft: it isn’t a vanilla boss or crafting recipe. To summon one, install community content made for your edition: Cracker’s Wither Storm Mod for Java, or the separate Wither Storm Bedrock Port add-on. In the Java mod, place the final Wither Skeleton Skull on the incomplete structure at the Rundown House at X=0, Z=0. Start in a new or backed-up world—the encounter can consume and reshape its surroundings.

Java and Bedrock use separate projects; don’t try to install the Java mod in Bedrock or assume the Bedrock port reproduces every Java-mod feature or Minecraft: Story Mode detail.
Make and summon the Wither Storm in Java
1. Match Minecraft and the mod loader
Check the mod’s current file list and project instructions. Choose a file for your Minecraft version and its supported Forge or NeoForge loader, then launch the corresponding profile. A mod file for a different game version or loader may not work.
2. Install the mod
- In the CurseForge App, search for “Wither Storm” and install a compatible file, or download the matching .jar from the project page.
- For manual installation, put the .jar in your Minecraft
mods/folder. - Launch Minecraft using the matching Forge or NeoForge profile.
3. Start in a safe world
Create a new world, or use a copy you can afford to lose. The project warns against summoning the Storm in a valued existing world: it absorbs its surroundings and can damage or reshape the environment.

4. Trigger the encounter
- Go to the Rundown House at X=0, Z=0.
- Find the incomplete Wither-like structure with a command block at its center.
- Pick up the final Wither Skeleton Skull on the floor and place it on the frame. The Wither Storm will spawn and begin evolving.
The mod project also describes manually building a normal Wither structure with a command block in the center as an alternative trigger. Its FAQ mentions an auto-spawn configuration option that starts the event after a delay.
5. Prepare for a survival challenge
The Storm grows by absorbing nearby blocks and mobs, can track players, and picks up parts of its surroundings. The mod is designed as a survival challenge, so gather supplies and be ready to escape rather than treating the summon as a harmless boss fight.

Install and summon the Bedrock add-on
- Open the Bedrock Port project page and confirm its current instructions match your Minecraft Bedrock version and device.
- Install the add-on and resource pack following the project’s directions.
- Keep the Wither Storm resource pack above other resource packs in the pack order. The creator warns that incorrect order can make the Storm model revert to the Ender Dragon.
- In a new or backed-up world, find the Rundown House at X=0, Z=0 and place the final skull on the incomplete structure above the command block.
The port creator says the add-on is intended for powerful devices and may lag on less powerful hardware; the creator suggests using an external server for weaker devices. This is creator guidance, not an independent performance test. Feature availability and performance can vary by release and device.

Check these details before you summon
- Protect your world: use a fresh world or a backup, because the encounter can consume and reshape its environment.
- Match the edition and version: Java requires the mod and a compatible Forge or NeoForge setup; Bedrock requires the separate add-on. Confirm current compatibility on the relevant project page.
- Expect a different Bedrock experience: the port is a work in progress, and its project page reported missing features for the release listed above.
- Don’t look for a vanilla recipe: ordinary Wither materials alone do not make a Wither Storm in unmodified Minecraft.
