What a private WordPress page does
WordPress pages are public by default. Setting a page to Private keeps its content out of ordinary public viewing while leaving the page published inside your WordPress site. A visitor who is logged out cannot read it, even if that person knows or guesses the page URL.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →WordPress documentation describes the setting this way: “Private: Only visible to site admins and editors.” In practice, the page is available to logged-in users whose role has permission to read private content. On a standard WordPress installation, Administrators and Editors can view private pages. They can also find those pages in the Pages list, edit them, and make them public again.
Private visibility is therefore an access rule based on WordPress accounts and capabilities, not a secret URL. It is useful for an internal draft that must remain available to a team, a staff-only policy page, a private event brief, or a page that should be reviewed by site editors before publication.

Set a page to Private in the Block Editor
The Block Editor puts the visibility control in the right-hand settings sidebar. Use these steps for a new page or for an existing page that is currently public.
- Sign in to the WordPress dashboard with an account that can edit the page.
- Open Pages and select Add New for a new page, or select the existing page you want to restrict.
- In the editor, open the right-hand settings sidebar if it is hidden. The sidebar is normally opened with the settings button in the upper-right corner.
- Open Status & Visibility. Depending on the WordPress version or the active editor labels, this may appear simply as Visibility.
- Click Edit beside the current visibility, which normally says Public.
- Select Private and confirm the change when WordPress asks you to do so.
- Choose Publish if this is a new page. Choose Update if the page already exists.
The final save is essential. Selecting Private in the panel changes the pending page settings; the live page does not receive that visibility rule until you publish or update it.
How to confirm the Block Editor change
After saving, return to Pages. A private page remains in the dashboard list, where its status identifies it as private. Open the page while logged out, or use a private browser window with no WordPress account session. The public visitor should not be able to read the page content. Then sign in with an Administrator or Editor account and confirm that the page is available from the Pages list.
Set a page to Private in the Classic Editor
The Classic Editor uses the Publish box rather than the Block Editor’s sidebar. The underlying setting is the same, but the control is in a different location.
- Open Pages in the dashboard and edit the page, or create a new page.
- Find the Publish box, usually on the right side of the editing screen.
- Locate Visibility, which normally shows Public, and click Edit.
- Select Private and confirm the prompt.
- Click Publish for a new page or Update for an existing one.
If the Publish box is not visible, open the screen options at the top of the editor and make sure the box is enabled. A plugin or a customized dashboard can also change which panels appear, but the visibility choice still belongs in the page’s publishing settings.
Choose the right visibility option
WordPress offers three standard page visibility choices. The correct one depends on who should authenticate and whether the page should be discoverable by unauthenticated visitors.

| Setting | Who authenticates | What a logged-out visitor sees | Administrative control | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Public | No account is required. | The page content can be viewed normally. | Users with editing permission can change the page. | A normal public page. |
| Private | A logged-in WordPress account with permission to read private content. | The content is hidden; knowing the URL does not grant access. | Authorized WordPress roles can view, edit, or republish it. | Staff, editorial, or administrator-only content. |
| Password Protected | A shared page password, not an individual WordPress account. | A password form appears. | Anyone who obtains the password can use it. | Sharing one page with a group that does not need WordPress accounts. |
Private and Password Protected are not interchangeable. Private visibility hides the page from logged-out visitors and checks WordPress account permissions. Password protection leaves the page published and presents a password prompt to visitors. WordPress stores the entered password in a browser cookie, so the same browser does not normally need to submit it on every visit.
Private versus Password Protected: a practical decision
Use Private when access should follow user accounts
Select Private when the audience already has WordPress accounts and you want the site’s roles and capabilities to determine access. This is the safer choice for editorial work, internal instructions, or information that should be limited to people who remain authorized on the site. Removing a user’s role or account access also removes that person’s ability to use the page through WordPress.
Use Password Protected when a shared secret is acceptable
Select Password Protected when visitors should be able to reach the page without a WordPress account, provided they know one common password. This is convenient for a temporary handout or a small group, but the password is not tied to a person. Anyone who receives it can pass it on. The documented WordPress password field is limited to 20 characters.
Do not treat either setting as a complete membership system
A private page does not create user accounts, assign roles, or provide a workflow for arbitrary groups. A shared password does not identify individual visitors or let you revoke access for just one person. If you need those controls, use an access-control or membership solution rather than relying on a page’s built-in visibility alone.

On a standard WordPress site, Administrators and Editors can see private content. They can locate it in the Pages screen even though ordinary visitors cannot. Because those roles can edit or republish the page, review role assignments on sites with several staff members before placing sensitive information on a private page.
The ability to change a page’s visibility or password is more specific than simply being able to visit a page. WordPress identifies the Administrator, Editor, and the page’s Author as roles that can change its password or visibility, subject to the site’s capability configuration. A site that uses custom roles, a membership plugin, or a multisite setup may alter those capabilities.

What a private page does not provide
- It does not encrypt the page content in the database or in backups.
- It does not make the page invisible to authorized administrators and editors.
- It does not automatically create a private site or make every other page private.
- It does not replace account security, sensible role assignments, or secure handling of copied content.
How to verify that the page is really private
Use a two-account check rather than relying only on the editor’s status label.
- Save the page with Private selected.
- Copy the page’s URL from the editor or Pages list.
- Open that URL in a private browsing window, a different browser, or a browser profile that is signed out of WordPress.
- Confirm that the content is not displayed to the logged-out session.
- Sign in with an authorized Administrator or Editor account and open the same URL or the page from Pages.
- Check that the authorized session can read the page and that the page remains marked private in the dashboard.
Do not test only in the browser where you edit the site. A logged-in session can make a private page appear available to you even though a public visitor cannot access it.
Troubleshoot a page that still appears public
The visibility choice was not saved
The most common mistake is selecting Private and then leaving the editor without saving. For a new page, click Publish; for an existing page, click Update. Reopen the page and check that the visibility label still says Private.
You are checking while logged in
Administrators and Editors can view private pages. Sign out, use a private browser window, or test with an account that does not have permission to read private content. Clear any browser session that automatically signs you back into WordPress.
You are looking in the wrong editor panel
In the Block Editor, look under Status & Visibility or Visibility in the right sidebar. In the Classic Editor, look in the Publish box. The two editors do not place the control in the same panel.
The Visibility control is missing
Check that the account has an appropriate role and that you are editing a page rather than a screen supplied by another plugin. In the Classic Editor, enable the Publish box through screen options if it has been hidden. On a customized site, an administrator may have removed or replaced standard panels.

A custom role cannot change the setting
Custom roles and capability-management plugins can differ from WordPress’s default roles. Ask a site administrator to review the account’s page-editing capabilities. The documented default workflow names Administrators, Editors, and the page’s Author, but a customized configuration may narrow those permissions.
A plugin or cache shows an old version
First confirm the page’s saved visibility in the editor and test from a signed-out browser. If the dashboard says Private but a public request still returns content, temporarily check whether a caching, membership, or page-generation plugin is serving a stale response. Purge that plugin’s cache according to its controls, then repeat the signed-out test. Do not make the page public merely to work around a cached copy.
Private pages and navigation, search, and direct links
A private page is excluded from normal public viewing, so it should not be treated as a public destination in your site’s menus or promotional links. Authorized editors can still see the page in the dashboard and may encounter it while managing content. A link copied to a public post does not bypass the visibility check: a logged-out visitor who follows it still cannot read the private page.
If a public navigation menu or search result appears to expose a title, excerpt, or link, inspect the menu and any search or SEO plugin settings separately. Page privacy controls the page’s access; it does not guarantee that every third-party display or cached fragment will handle the page exactly as you expect. Verify the public-facing result after changing visibility.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhen one private page is not enough
Core WordPress supports visibility on individual pages and posts. It does not, by itself, provide a whole-site switch that hides an entire blog or limits the site to a selected list of users. A site-wide private area, member dashboard, or rule such as “only users in this group may see these pages” requires an access-control or membership plugin, or server-level configuration.
Those extensions can add account registration, user-specific rules, protected media, redirects, and subscription logic, but they also introduce compatibility, support, and maintenance decisions. Confirm that an extension supports your WordPress version, editor, roles, caching setup, and required content types before enabling it. Test both authorized and unauthorized sessions after configuration.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Use the built-in setting for a single-page restriction
If the requirement is simply “hide this one page from the public, but let our logged-in editors read it,” the built-in Private setting is the narrowest solution. It avoids adding a second access system and keeps the rule attached to the page itself.
Use a broader access-control design for a private section
If several pages, downloads, media files, or user groups must follow one policy, document the policy first: who should gain access, how accounts are approved, what happens when access is revoked, and whether logged-out visitors should see a login prompt or no content at all. Then choose an extension or server configuration that implements those rules consistently.

Operational checklist
- Open the correct page under Pages.
- Use Status & Visibility in the Block Editor or the Publish box in the Classic Editor.
- Change Public to Private and confirm.
- Click Publish or Update; the setting is not live until you save.
- Test the URL while signed out, not only from an administrator session.
- Confirm which roles should retain access and review those roles on shared sites.
- Choose Password Protected instead if a shared password, rather than WordPress accounts, is the intended audience.
- Use an access-control or server-level solution for whole-site privacy or user-specific groups.
Examples of the right setting
Editorial review page
A team is preparing a page for an internal review. Set it to Private so logged-in Editors can read and revise it while the public URL remains inaccessible. When the review is complete, an authorized editor can switch it to Public and save the change.
One-time handout for people without accounts
A coordinator needs to share a page with people who will not receive WordPress accounts. Password Protected may fit this case, provided everyone can use the same password and the coordinator accepts that the password can be forwarded.
Members-only knowledge base
A site contains many pages for different user groups and needs access to be revoked per person. A single Private setting on each page does not model those rules. The site needs a membership or access-control system, with its roles and restrictions tested across the entire protected area.
