To max out Piper Wright’s affinity in Fallout 4, recruit her, keep her as your active companion, and make choices that earn her approval. Talk to her when she wants to share her thoughts, and watch for “liked that” or “loved that” feedback. At maximum affinity, Piper awards the unique Gift of Gab perk.
How to build Piper’s affinity
- Recruit Piper and travel with her. Keep her as your active companion while exploring and completing quests. Bethesda Support recommends completing quests with a companion active as a general way to build affinity.
- Choose actions Piper approves of. Pay attention to her reactions: “liked that” and “loved that” indicate approval, while “disliked that” and “hated that” indicate disapproval. Make decisions with those cues in mind rather than trying to follow an exhaustive checklist of actions.
- Respond when she wants to talk. Speak with Piper when she signals that she has something to share. Bethesda’s advice for companions includes talking with them when they want to share their thoughts.
- Use available affinity aids. Bethesda Support also mentions Paramour aid items and the Leadership Social skill as ways to help companion affinity. The support guidance does not quantify their effect or establish a Piper-specific bonus.
- Vary your activities. Some repeatable approval events have cooldowns, according to the community-maintained affinity reference. Repeating the same action immediately may not earn another increase, so mix positive actions with quests and other interactions.
- Continue until Piper idolizes you. The affinity meter is hidden; use Piper’s reactions and relationship dialogue as progress cues. The community-maintained affinity reference lists 1,000 points as the idolize threshold, but Bethesda does not specify that figure in its support guidance.
What Gift of Gab does
Reaching maximum affinity with Piper unlocks Gift of Gab. It grants double XP for successful Charisma checks and for discovering new locations.
How to avoid losing progress
Piper can react negatively to some player actions. The available Piper reference reports that certain actions, including some attacks and killings, can make her hostile and cause her to leave permanently. Because the full trigger list is not established here, avoid actions that provoke her and use her approval feedback to judge how she responds.
