To host an Advent of Ascension Plus (AoA+) server, download the dedicated server pack for the pack release you want, extract it into its own folder, and—on Windows—run the included start.bat. AoA+ targets Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge, so every player must use a client with the same Minecraft version, Forge version, and AoA+ release as the server.

What you need before you start
- Minecraft Java Edition: AoA+ is a Java Edition modpack, not a Bedrock server pack.
- A release choice: CurseForge lists client files and server-pack files separately. Choose a pack release for which a matching server pack is available.
- A computer or server to host it: The project publishes a minimum and recommended memory allocation; the operating system and any other services also need memory.
- Matching player installations: Each player needs the same Minecraft, Forge, and AoA+ versions that the server uses.
The project describes AoA+ as an exploration-focused pack for Minecraft 1.16.5 using Forge. Its file index includes multiple releases, such as V64 and V63, as well as separately listed 1.16 server-pack files. Those labels are examples of available releases, not a reason to assume that any client file can be used to run a server.

Choose the right AoA+ server pack
Start with the server-pack listing for the exact AoA+ release you intend to run. Do not substitute the client download for the server pack: the project publishes server files separately, and the dedicated-server listing says the server file should match the exact pack release.
- Open the AoA+ files listing on CurseForge and identify the client release you want to use.
- Find the server-pack file for that same release. Check the file name and release details rather than relying only on a similar version number.
- Confirm that the chosen files target Minecraft 1.16.5 and Forge.
- Keep the client and server on that release while setting up. If you later update, update the server and every player’s client together.
A release mismatch can lead to missing-mod or registry errors when a player connects. Selecting the matching server file at the outset is simpler than trying to repair a server built from the wrong download.

Set up the server on Windows
- Make a dedicated folder. Create a new folder for this server, separate from other Minecraft worlds or modpacks. Keeping the files together makes it easier to identify which release you are running.
- Download the matching server-pack ZIP. Use the AoA+ server-pack file for the selected client release.
- Extract the ZIP into the server folder. Extract its contents, rather than leaving the ZIP unopened or running files from inside an archive. The project’s published instruction is: “Extract the .zip file to a folder. Run "start.bat" to launch your server.”
- Start the server. Run the supplied
start.bat. Follow the console prompts on the first launch. The first run includes an EULA prompt and allows Forge to generate server files. - Accept the EULA only if you agree to it. Complete the prompt as directed by the server files. If you do not agree, do not proceed with running the server.
- Wait for first-run setup to finish. Let the process complete its file generation before making configuration changes. Keep the console output available in case startup fails.
- Stop the server cleanly before editing. Do not change configuration files while the server is running. Stop it through the server console and wait for shutdown to complete before making edits or moving files.
The supplied launch instruction specifically documents Windows and start.bat. The available project information does not establish a matching launch command or exact setup steps for other operating systems, so do not assume the Windows batch file will run unchanged elsewhere.
Memory allocation: minimum and recommended amounts
The project’s published memory guidance is for the server allocation. It is not the total memory needed by the computer: the operating system and other running services require additional memory.

Java and Forge: what to install
The pack targets Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge. The project’s Java 8 note is specifically troubleshooting guidance for Prism Launcher users: it advises those users to download Adoptium Java 8 if they encounter connection or skin problems. That note should not be read as a universal server-Java specification; the available project information does not state a separate Java version requirement for every server setup.

For the client side, use a Forge environment compatible with the selected 1.16.5 AoA+ release. For server setup, begin with the dedicated server pack rather than assuming that a separately installed client environment provides the files or launch method the server needs.
Connect players using the matching client
- Have each player install the AoA+ client file that corresponds to the server’s exact pack release.
- Make sure each client uses Minecraft 1.16.5 and the Forge version compatible with that release.
- Start the server and have players connect only after it has completed startup.
- If a player receives a missing-mod or registry mismatch error, compare the client’s Minecraft, Forge, and AoA+ release against the server’s selected versions before changing files.
A player’s game may launch successfully and still fail to join if the client pack is from another release. The server and clients should be treated as one version set, not updated independently.

Updating without creating a version mismatch
AoA+ has multiple releases, and the CurseForge listing separates server-pack files from client files. Before upgrading, identify the intended new client release and confirm that the matching server pack is available. Plan to move the server and all clients to that release together; keep them on the existing matching release until you are ready to update the whole group.
- Do not choose a server pack merely because its name contains a familiar version label; verify the exact pack release.
- Do not update only the server or only one player’s client and expect the versions to remain compatible.
- Keep a record of which release the running server uses so players can install the correct client file.
Common setup problems and practical checks
The server does not start from the ZIP
Extract the server pack into a folder first, then run the supplied start.bat from the extracted files. Keep the console open long enough to see any startup message instead of closing it immediately.

A player cannot join because of missing mods or a registry mismatch
Check that the server-pack file and each player’s client pack are from the same exact AoA+ release. Also verify Minecraft 1.16.5 and the compatible Forge version on the client. Reinstalling a different release on only one side can preserve the mismatch rather than fix it.
The first launch pauses for an EULA prompt
This is part of the documented first-launch flow. Read the prompt and complete it only if you agree to the EULA. Allow the server to generate its files, then stop it cleanly before editing configuration.
Prism users report connection or skin problems
The AoA+ project’s Prism-specific troubleshooting guidance points affected users to Adoptium Java 8. This is a troubleshooting suggestion for those reported problems, not a claim that it is required for every launcher or server.
The server runs out of memory or the computer becomes constrained
Check the amount allocated to the server against the project’s published guidance, while accounting for memory used by the operating system and other services. The published figures do not establish a guaranteed player capacity or a hardware-specific performance target.
Hosting beyond the local setup
The server-pack instructions establish how to prepare and launch the pack, but they do not specify how to expose a server to players outside the host computer or local network. That part depends on the operator’s network and hosting setup. Before inviting remote players, confirm that your chosen host can make the server reachable by its intended players; the AoA+ project’s server-pack instructions do not document a universal networking procedure or endorse a hosting provider.
