To make an MC Eternal server, download the matching server pack from the MC Eternal project on CurseForge, extract it into a dedicated folder, run its Forge launcher with a compatible Java runtime, accept the EULA, and configure access for your players. MC Eternal is a Forge pack for Minecraft: Java Edition 1.12.2, so every player must use the same pack release, Forge profile and mods as the server.

What an MC Eternal server needs
MC Eternal is a large Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.12.2. Its CurseForge project description advertises more than 1,000 quests and challenges. The project page displayed release 1.6.3.1, dated December 16, 2024, and showed 4,847,572 downloads when accessed. Those figures identify the project and release; they do not guarantee that every later client or server file has the same version.

- Mod loader: Forge for Minecraft 1.12.2.
- Server files: The MC Eternal server pack, not an ordinary vanilla server download.
- Java: A runtime capable of launching the selected 1.12.2 Forge server. The project information does not state one universal Java major-version requirement, so test the runtime with the exact Forge files you downloaded.
- Memory: The project says to allocate at least 5.5 GB to the server and recommends 8 GB or more in its detailed description.
- Network: A local network for home play, or a reachable address plus firewall and router configuration for players outside your home.
The memory figures are starting points, not guarantees. Actual needs change with player count, view distance, chunk generation, automation-heavy bases, dimensions, and other processes sharing the machine. Leave memory for the operating system; assigning every installed gigabyte to Java can make the host less stable.
Self-hosting or managed hosting?
Self-hosting gives you direct access to the files and costs no separate hosting fee, but you are responsible for Java, Forge, port forwarding, backups, updates and keeping the computer online. A managed server shifts those tasks to a hosting control panel and can place the machine near your players, but it creates a recurring charge and limits you to the provider’s controls and locations.
#1 Best Overall
| Consideration | Self-hosted computer | Managed MC Eternal server |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront and recurring cost | No separate server rental; you provide the hardware, electricity and internet connection. | Recurring plan cost; current prices, regions and promotions vary by provider and date. |
| Control | Full access to scripts, mods, configs, world files and backup destinations. | Access depends on the host’s panel and file tools. |
| Setup effort | You install Java and Forge, edit memory settings, configure the firewall and possibly forward a router port. | The provider provisions the pack and exposes management tools, but you still select the correct pack release and settings. |
| Reliability | You handle power, operating-system updates, uptime and recovery. | The provider operates the machine, while you remain responsible for world-level configuration and backups. |
| Latency | Usually best for players near the host’s internet connection; upload quality matters. | Choose a region close to most players when the service offers regional selection. |
| Inviting friends | You send your reachable address and port after networking is configured. | Some services provide a share link or import code that adds the server profile and connection details to friends’ CurseForge apps. |
For a small group with a spare, reliable computer, self-hosting is the most controllable route. If nobody wants to maintain Java, networking and uptime, use a managed workflow that explicitly supports the MC Eternal server pack. Confirm the current plan, region, storage, modpack version and cancellation terms before paying.
Download the correct MC Eternal server pack
Use the server-pack file attached to the MC Eternal project on CurseForge. Do not copy a client’s entire installation and assume it is a server. CurseForge’s server-pack guidance says a normal pack includes a mods directory and a config directory; it may also include startup scripts and a server.properties file. Those files are what keep the server’s mod set and configuration aligned with the client pack.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Open the MC Eternal project page in CurseForge and select the release you intend to run.
- Open that release’s files and choose its server pack, not only the client ZIP.
- Check the displayed Minecraft and Forge information. Your client installation must use the same MC Eternal release and the same underlying 1.12.2 Forge setup.
- Download the archive to the computer that will host the world.
- Create a new, dedicated server directory. A short path such as
C:MC-Eternal-Serveron Windows or~/mc-eternal-serveron Linux makes scripts and backups easier to manage. - Extract the archive directly into that directory. Verify that the extracted folder contains the pack’s
modsandconfigdirectories and any supplied launcher or start script.
Keep one untouched copy of the downloaded archive. It gives you a known-good baseline if a later edit, mod update or configuration change prevents startup.
Install Java and prepare Forge
Install a Java runtime that can launch your selected Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge server. The available project information does not identify a single Java major version that applies to every distribution, so do not infer a version solely from a generic Minecraft guide. Use the runtime supported by the Forge launcher and operating system you selected, and make sure the command used by the script points to that runtime rather than an older Java installation.
On Windows, open a terminal and run java -version. On Linux or macOS, run the same command in a shell. The result should identify an installed runtime. If the command is not found, install Java and add its executable directory to the system PATH, or edit the server script to use the full path to java.
Do not install a second Forge version over the server folder simply because its number is newer. MC Eternal’s mods were assembled for its 1.12.2 Forge environment. A different Forge build can produce missing-mod errors, registry mismatches or crashes even when the Minecraft version appears correct.
Set server memory in the startup script
Open the supplied Windows .bat file or the equivalent shell script. The MC Eternal project instructions specifically tell Windows users to add Xmx and Xms values manually. -Xms is the initial heap allocation; -Xmx is the maximum heap allocation.
- Use at least
-Xmx5Gas the project’s practical minimum starting point. - Use
-Xmx8Gor more when the host has enough unused memory, matching the project’s detailed recommendation. - Set
-Xmsto a sensible initial value that the machine can reserve without starving the operating system; for example, a lower initial value can be appropriate when the server shares the computer with other applications. - Change the existing Java line rather than creating several competing launch commands.
A typical script line has the form java -Xms5G -Xmx8G -jar server-launcher.jar nogui. The launcher filename in your pack may differ, so retain the filename and arguments supplied with your download while adding the memory flags. If the pack’s script already contains Forge-specific arguments, keep them intact.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
Close programs that compete for RAM, especially other game clients, world editors and large browsers. If the server reports an out-of-memory error, reduce simultaneous workloads first, then raise -Xmx only when physical memory permits it.
Start the server, accept the EULA and restart
- Run the supplied start script from the server directory. The first launch may stop after creating initial files.
- Look for
eula.txtin the same directory. Read the Minecraft EULA before changing the setting. - Open the file, change
eula=falsetoeula=true, save it and close the editor. - Run the start script again and wait for Forge to finish loading. The console should eventually indicate that the server is ready to accept commands.
- Stop the server cleanly from its console before editing configuration or copying a world. Avoid killing the process while chunks are being saved.
Keep the console visible during the first successful boot. A missing Java executable, an incorrect Forge file, a damaged archive or a mod mismatch normally produces a specific error there; the first error in the log is more useful than the final cascade of shutdown messages.
Configure the world and player permissions
After the first complete startup, stop the server and edit server.properties with a plain-text editor. Change only the settings you understand, and keep a backup of the original file.
- Server name and message: Set the name or welcome text your group will recognize.
- Port: Keep the default Java server port unless another service already uses it. Mojang commonly documents port
25565; if you choose a different port, use that same value in the firewall, router and client connection. - Difficulty and gameplay: Choose values appropriate for your group before the world becomes established.
- View distance: Start conservatively. More loaded chunks increase CPU, memory and network work, especially with several players exploring different directions.
- Whitelist: Enable it when only invited players should join, then add each player’s exact in-game name from the server console.
- Operators: Grant operator status only to trusted administrators. Operator access can change worlds, permissions and server behavior.
Make a dated copy of the world directory whenever the server is stopped. Keep several generations rather than overwriting one backup: a corrupted chunk or accidental deletion may not be noticed immediately.

Let friends connect over the internet
Players on the same home network can usually connect to the host’s local address and configured port. Players outside that network need a reachable public address, an allowed firewall rule and, when the host is behind a router, a port-forwarding rule to the computer running the server.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Assign the hosting computer a stable local address through the router’s DHCP reservation or an equivalent method. This prevents a port-forward rule from pointing to the wrong machine after a reboot.
- Allow the Java server process through the host operating system’s firewall. If you use a non-default port, allow that exact TCP port as well.
- In the router, forward the server’s port (commonly
25565) to the host computer’s local address. The router interface may call this NAT, port forwarding or virtual server. - Start the MC Eternal server and confirm that it reaches its ready state before testing from outside your network.
- Give friends the public address and port. A non-default port is written after a colon, such as
address.example:25566; friends on the default port can normally enter only the address. - Have one player test from a different network, such as a mobile connection. Testing only from inside the same LAN can hide router loopback or forwarding problems.
Some internet providers place customers behind carrier-grade NAT, which prevents ordinary inbound forwarding. In that situation, ask the provider whether a public address is available or use a managed server instead. Never publish your home address or open unrelated ports; expose only the server port you need.
Install the matching client profile
Every player must install the same MC Eternal release as the server and launch it with the corresponding Minecraft 1.12.2 Forge profile. A client from another release can have different mods, configuration files or registries even when both installations are called MC Eternal.
- Choose the exact release number used by the server, such as 1.6.3.1 when that is the pack selected by the administrator.
- Allow the launcher to install the pack’s Forge profile and complete its downloads before joining.
- Do not add, remove or update individual mods unless the server administrator has made the same change for everyone.
- Copying a server’s
modsfolder into a client is not a substitute for installing the complete client pack; client-only files and configuration may also be required.
At the multiplayer screen, choose Direct Connect or add a server entry, then enter the host address and port. A successful connection should download the world and place the player at the server’s spawn area. The first login can take longer while chunks and mod data are prepared.

Diagnose the most common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| The script window closes immediately. | Java is missing, the script points to the wrong executable, or the launcher file is absent. | Run the script from a terminal so the error remains visible; verify java -version, the working directory and the Forge launcher filename. |
| The server says the EULA has not been accepted. | eula.txt still contains eula=false. |
Read the EULA, set the value to true, save the file in the server directory and restart. |
| Java reports an out-of-memory error. | The heap limit is too low, or the computer does not have enough free RAM for the selected limit. | Close competing applications, check physical memory, then adjust -Xmx gradually. Do not assign all system RAM to Java. |
| A player is rejected for missing or extra mods. | The client release, Forge build, mod list or configuration differs from the server. | Compare the exact pack release and reinstall the matching client profile. Remove unauthorized mod changes. |
| Friends outside the home cannot connect, but LAN players can. | Firewall, router forwarding, changing local address, carrier-grade NAT or an incorrect public address. | Check the firewall rule, verify forwarding targets the current host address, test the public port from another network and ask the internet provider about inbound connectivity. |
| The world becomes sluggish when several players explore. | Chunk generation, high view distance, automation or insufficient CPU and memory headroom. | Lower view distance, stop unnecessary applications, keep backups, and monitor the host while players travel to new areas. |
| The server crashes after a mod or config edit. | An incompatible change or malformed configuration. | Restore the last known-good configuration or pack copy, review the first stack trace in the log, and apply changes one at a time. |
Operate the server safely over time
Back up before every significant change
Stop the server cleanly, copy the world directory and record the date before changing mods, Forge, Java arguments or major settings. Store at least one copy on another disk or computer; a backup on the same failing drive is not a complete recovery plan.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesUpdate as a coordinated group
When a new MC Eternal release is selected, create a separate server directory instead of overwriting the working one. Install the new server pack, copy only the settings and world data you have verified, and have every player update to the identical client release. Keep the old directory until the new world has loaded and players have confirmed that their content works.
Watch the host while the pack is busy
Large modpacks can be quiet during ordinary building and demanding during exploration, dimension changes or automated processing. Check CPU, memory, disk space and network use during those activities. If the machine also runs a desktop, game client or recording software, leave additional headroom beyond the 5.5 GB minimum and 8 GB recommendation.
Using a managed CurseForge server workflow
CurseForge Servers provides a paid workflow in which you select a supported modpack, plan, region and server details, then manage the provisioned instance through a hosting panel. For a group that does not want to configure a router or maintain a home computer, this can simplify provisioning and outside access.
- Select MC Eternal and verify that the service offers the exact server-pack release your group intends to use.
- Choose the plan and region after checking current memory, storage, player-limit and billing details.
- Provision the server and confirm that the panel reports it as running before inviting players.
- Use the panel’s direct share link or import code, when available, so friends can add the matching server profile and connection information to their CurseForge apps.
- Confirm that everyone still launches the same MC Eternal client release. Managed provisioning does not remove the need for client/server version parity.
Pricing, availability and promotions change, and no universal cost is established here. Treat the plan’s published limits and current checkout terms as authoritative rather than relying on an old recommendation.
