In vanilla Hytale, smelting sand in a fueled Furnace is reported to produce empty glass bottles for alchemy—not placeable glass blocks. For a window, use the Builder’s Workbench and look for a window recipe instead. The recipe guides cited below were published or updated in January 2026; check your current in-game recipe UI because the official Hytale Docs page does not confirm player recipes for Release 0.6.8.
Make empty glass bottles from sand
Beebom’s January 16, 2026 guide describes this Furnace recipe:

- Gather sand. The guide lists beaches, riverbanks, and the Badlands. It says sand can be broken by hand or with a pickaxe or shovel; distinguish it from nearby sandstone-colored terrain.
- Fuel a Furnace. Beebom gives logs and tree sap as fuel examples. Put fuel in the leftmost cell and sand in the middle cell.
- Collect the output. The reported output is empty glass bottles, not building glass.
- Use the bottles for alchemy. Beebom says they can be used for potion brewing at the Alchemist’s Workbench.
These are guide-reported vanilla instructions, not recipes confirmed by the official Hytale Docs page, whose Release 0.6.8 documentation is focused on servers and mod development. Check the Furnace and workbench recipe UI in your installed version if the layout or result differs.
Make a window without turning bottles into panes
Game8’s guide, last updated January 26, 2026, and Beebom both describe windows as a separate Builder’s Workbench recipe. Game8 says to insert a log and select a window recipe; Beebom says its window option does not require glass blocks or sand. Since the guides do not establish exact ingredients for every current version, use the workbench’s displayed recipe rather than assuming the bottle recipe is involved.

What if you want placeable glass blocks or panes?
The January 2026 vanilla guides do not describe placeable glass blocks or panes. The official docs do not settle whether that has changed in Release 0.6.8. The following are modded alternatives, not vanilla recipes:
- Glass: The CurseForge listing says the mod adds a block made by processing sand in a Furnace and moves empty potion bottle crafting to the Alchemist’s Bench. The listing reports an update on January 27, 2026.
- tte’s Glass Pack: Its listing describes colored blocks and panes, a white sandstone rubble Furnace recipe, panes crafted at the Builder’s Workbench, and colored glass crafted at a normal Crafting Workbench. The listing reports an update on January 20, 2026.
- Glass Windows: Its listing describes glass blocks made by smelting sand and craftable glass windows at the Builder’s Workbench. The page lists version 1.0.1 dated February 18, 2026.
Those listings show what their authors published, not that each mod is compatible with Release 0.6.8. Before installing one, check its listing for current game-version compatibility and update information.
